“It’s not an interference. They have information. I think I’d take it.”

I was going to take the night off and watch Double Indemnity with a glass of scotch, but then the President of the United States went and said on the record that he would accept the assistance of a hostile foreign power in order to stay in power, and now my night is pretty much ruined. [As I know from experience, one can not drink scotch while wringing one’s hands, or enjoy the acting abilities of Barbara Stanwyck while screaming out the window.]

After this exchange, George Stephanopoulos mentioned to Trump that his own FBI Director, Christopher Wray, when recently asked during congressional testimony if candidates for elected office should report instances of foreign governments reaching out to offer election-related assistance, said that of course they should. Upon hearing this, Trump responded by saying, “The FBI Director is wrong.” [He wasn’t wrong.]

As former CIA Director John Brennan just said on Twitter, “This is just the latest example of what Vice President Biden meant when he said that Mr. Trump is an existential threat to our country. ‘Unfit to be President’ is a gross understatement. Donald Trump is undeserving of any public office, and all Americans should be outraged.”

Oh, and do you think that this might possibly be why Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is preventing a vote on bipartisan legislation to secure our elections from foreign interference?

OK, I want to go on, but I’m determined to find a way to drink that scotch.

Before I go, though, there’s one more thing that I wanted to share with you… Donald Trump also said today, if you can believe it, that the Mueller report found that he and members of his campaign “rebuffed” overtures from Russia. [It did the opposite.]

update: The Chair of the Federal Elections Commission has now weighed in to say that, yes, doing what Donald Trump has suggested would be a crime.

    Which is it?

    “Maybe go to the FBI”

    or

    “Nobody goes to the FBI”

Clearly, he doesn’t think going to the FBI is a priority.

The problem is that no candidate (of any party) should be accepting money or information from a foreign power, at all. Here, he says “I’d want to hear it” and “I think I’d take it.” Obviously, he has no problem with working with a foreign power to win an election.

At a Senate hearing on May 7, FBI Director Chris Wray said such attempts should be reported. Trump appointed Wray after firing James Comey. “My view is that, if any public official or member of any campaign is contacted by any nation-state or anybody acting on behalf of a nation-state about influencing or interfering with our election, then that is something that the FBI would want to know about,” Wray testified.

Asked about this statement by ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos, Trump said, “The FBI director is wrong.”

An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment.

That makes no sense. Are you trying to say because of the popular vote? Last time I checked the rules for the 2016 election and all the ones before that was you have to win the Electoral College. Who cares which team got more shots on goal? You know what I mean? When you shoot but fail to score? It’s what’s on the scoreboard at the end of the game that determines the winner. No one cares about that but the losers. Even most losers wouldn’t whine about it let alone try to crow!

Regarding millions of people: Trump hit 50% in Rasmussen’s approval rating the other day. If the polls mean anything then more people are getting on board with him than before. CNN has sunk dramatically and they were Russian Collusion Central. Some of those lost viewers are bound to have changed their mind completely and some others have softened on the President in light of being fed a steady diet of lies for two years.

I think Trump will go down in history as the president who exposed the deep state and restored the constitutional form of government. He will be remembered as the President who dismantled unfair trade agreements and blocked rogue countries from profiting from stolen intellectual property. He will have a lasting effect far beyond his administration because of appointments of as many as 4 Supreme Court Justices who rightfully interpret the laws as written and not legislating from the bench. He will be remembered as the President who refused to bow before foreign leaders and who stopped the hemorrhage of tax dollars to foreign aid to countries that hate us and our way of life. He will be remembered as the President who reduced governmental burdens and restrictions on private businesses and allowed them to thrive and support record employment for all Americans. And he will restore the pride of all citizens that derives from being a part of the greatest nation in history.

If everything goes the US’s way, Assange won’t be in the US until 2021 or later. The United Kingdom has signed an extradition request for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who faces charges in the US under the Espionage Act.

UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid said he signed the papers on Wednesday, a day after the US Justice Department formally asked Britain to extradite the 47-year-old Australian.
“First of all I am very pleased the police were able to apprehend him and now he is rightly behind bars because he broke UK law,” Javid told BBC Radio 4 on Thursday.
“There is an extradition request from the US that is before the courts tomorrow but yesterday I signed the extradition order and certified it and that will be going in front of the courts tomorrow,” he added.
The US will detail all charges against Assange on Friday, when it seeks his extradition in a London court.

Why this was not part of the Republican articles of impeachment is obvious today. They want foreign powers to be able to pony up money and purchase influence. An historical study of Democratic nations show a high propensity for Democracies to be subverted from within by those who become toadies for foreigners. Aloha FF, I agree I am cheap. baseless–Would it be better if I assumed EOS was in favor of genocide based on religion? That is really what it is. The issue I have brought up several times with EOS is her/his false understanding of the various religions that occupy the Arabian peninsula. I have pointed out the extremist exclusionary religious believes that the Saudi family advocates–to the tune of billions of petro/dollars per year. My cheap shot on race is rooted in her/his casual way in which s/he dismisses the genocide (over 250,00 dead and a million more starving to death) as “self defense”.
Since her/his support of The Leader is more important than morality, I can only assume that s/he also supports the family separation policy of The Leader and the growing concentration camps The Leader is building to house, mainly brown folks from central America. I do not apologize for following the logic of one’s position and identifying a root cause.

The President has cleaned out the Republican Party of old. Look how many stepped down.

The Clinton’s and Obama have far more in common with the Bush’s than Trump. It is obvious to me the old guard of both parties are allied against him. Too bad they don’t have the power to do whatever they want anymore.

Your accusation that racism is the reason for EOS’ opinion here either makes sense or it does not. It makes zero sense, imo.

Emotional appeals go nowhere toward making sense of your cheap and baseless accusation. (And I agree with the side you are on in this case.)

    You can do better, imo.

My understanding of the conflict was supported by a link that contained well characterized facts. Both of the combatants are Muslim. Saddam Hussein was a harsh leader that we ousted from office – had him executed. The resultant chaos within the country has still not been resolved. The Saudi Royals engage in practices that I cannot condone. The Saudi people practice Wahhabism which is even more violent. I do not support the overthrow of the government which keeps these radicals in check. That those who seek to attack Saudi Arabia are backed by Iranians is even more reason to withhold support. Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.

Aloha EOS, ” Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.” Quit true. The US Congress has enacted the War Powers Act to end US involvement in the Yemen genocide. The Leader’s veto is the only thing that allows for our continued complicity. Glad to know at what point my neighbors are willing to embrace crimes against humanity. “Both of the combatants are Muslim.” Enough said.

Aloha, The Leader is so weak, he can’t even remember what he has said from day to day. And folks like EOS give up their moral agency to him, how very sad our world has become.

“Of course you give it to the FBI or report to the attorney general or somebody like that,” Trump told Fox and Friends in a live interview Friday. “Of course you do that. I thought it was made clear.”
    compared too
” I’d go maybe to the FBI — if I thought there was something wrong.”

WTH? “The Moon of Alabama where barflies get together.” Yeah, that’s a great source for information on international events.

Donald Trump is not my moral agent. You obviously don’t have a clue.

The Democratic Party is going to impeach Trump for something. If it is not for listening to foreigners maybe it will be for eating broccoli or bad grammar – whatever. They seem to think that no one will vote for somebody who was impeached. Regardless, the Senate will not go along. The move will backfire, especially once former administration officials get indicted for real crimes. Wait and see.

    Hi Jean,

Thanks for thinking of me. My quick takes based on quickly watching 2 videos from different perspectives:

    1) There could have been a combination of possible justifications for drawing the guns. I don’t know. Was there a chase? Prior to the shared videos were instructions like “roll down the window or step out of the vehicle being ignored? The Dark window tinting with the windows rolled created an a reasonable uncertainty if other certain conditions were met.

    2) Swearing at the people in the car and announcing they were going to shoot them seemed highly unprofessional but I do not have a big problem with it if the officers saw it has a way to warn them of the danger of the situation….

    3) I had a huge problem with the way the young man, once out of the car and not at all providing resistance to the arrest, and the officer man-handled/ assaulted him/ used unnecessary force, for no apparent reason. The young man being arrested was no threat. That officer should be fired and possibly charged with assault. The young man should sue the department.

    4) I had an even bigger problem with the way the woman was treated after she was out of the car with her children and no threat. She was not resisting. She was not fleeing. She was holding a child. The officer that yelled at her and grabbed her arm, while she was holding the baby, should be fired and definitely charges with assault. He was trying to handcuff a woman while she was holding a baby. So gross. The woman should sue for a lot of money. Those children likely suffered trauma that could have been avoided.

    5) Some of the officers seemed to be doing a good job actually . To me it really looked like 2 very bad cops. The officer who put his gun away as he saw the children seemed to be doing things close enough to the right way, imo.

    6) I of course would like to know more about what led up to this altercation but bottom line is that you can’t treat people like that who are not resisting and not posing an immediate threat. After they exited the car I saw zero threat. Zero resistance. The officers must act accordingly regardless of what happened prior to them getting out of the car…

Some very bad things happened here. The media should identify the specific bad things accurately. They will not. They will USE this situation

May ask Jean? When you said: “Curious to hear FF’s take on this one” were you being sincere or were attempting to USE the situation?

“The Chair of the Federal Elections Commission has now weighed in to say that, yes, doing what Donald Trump has suggested would be a crime.”–Mark

Let me be 100% clear. Mrs. Weintraub didn’t exactly say what Mark claims she said. However, she did insert herself into the news with vague notions of the illegality of “donations of value” while avoiding the exploration of the application of those notions to what Trump described. Mueller addressed the issue of accepting info. He described it as not clear-cut in terms of illegality. Even Vox was careful to point out reasons to avoid making murky claims like Mark made.

I don’t think those indictments were unsealed for no reason. If you collectively don’t care then that is evidence of extreme hypocrisy. You care about Trump saying he would accept information from another country and probably go to the FBI if there was something wrong with it but you don’t care about Obama getting millions in campaign funds from a Malaysian man.

So South Bend police officer, Sgt. Ryan O’Neill, chose not to turn his body camera on before or during his supposed confrontation with what he claims was an armed man. He then proceeded to shoot the man to death. What unfortunate timing for Mayor Pete.

Why does everyone think Mayor Pete should be some sort of white savior? How the hell is he supposed to know how to fix racisms toxic legacy in America? He’s just a child for Christ sake. The good thing is that he’s a fast learner. He just needs some guidance . Even Obama wasn’t able to fix this problem.

I did learn the other day that Mayor Pete’s father was a friend and colleague of Cornel West.

Maybe he could give Mayor Pete some philosophical counsel.

Whatever this will either break or make him.

If he does fall away I hope Harris or Booker step up.
