Linette’s out of town, and my own mother is on an island off the coast of Georgia, so it’s just me and the kids celebrating Mother’s Day this year, sans mother… which is why I’m able to just lay around tonight and watch Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce.
[If you’d rather talk about politics, though, we could always discuss Elizabeth Warren’s trip to Kermit, West Virginia, where she talked about the opioid epidemic, and apparently won over some Trump supporters.]

Competition for Joan C in mother-of-the-year category and in equally amazing films: Angela Lansbury in Manchurian Candidate and Shelley Winters in Lolita. Trifecta!!
Funny you should mention Shelley Winters. I was just thinking about her, but in a different role — as the mother in Night of the Hunter.
I was in the hospital over the weekend and so got Mother’s Day breakfast in bed on a styrofoam tray. I also got to watch Turner Classic Network Movies until my release. They showed Stella Dallas before Mildred Pierce. I’d never seen it before. It was quite good and would warrant a remake as it’s all about social mobility and class. Today they are showing the Bad Seed which is also a great movie about how stupid parents and shrinks can be.
Sorry to hear about the hospitalization, Jean. I hope it’s only temporary… And, yeah, I saw that it was on Turner Classic Movies, but I missed it there. Fortunately, though, I was able to find my DVD. [Watching things live is so much better than on DVD.] I’m never seen Stella Dallas, but it’s on my list.
