Attorney General William Barr, testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee today, let it be known that, in his opinion, “spying did occur” on the Trump campaign by U.S. intelligence agencies in 2016. Barr not only offered no evidence to back up this surprising claim, but, upon further questioning, said that he would not be “putting together a panel” to investigate the matter further, which would seem to indicate that knows full well that the investigation into the campaign was completely warranted, given the overwhelming evidence of Russian election interference and the numerous unreported meetings between members of Trump’s inner circle and individuals with ties to the Russian government. But yet he said it anyway. The question is why. Why would Barr, without evidence of wrongdoing, knowing that none exists, suggest that the intelligence community had been out to get Donald Trump in 2016?
Here, if you’ve yet to see it, is footage of Barr throwing chum to the rabid conspiracy theorists that now form the base of the Republican Party — people who actually believe that the intelligence community, directed by a liberal, globalist cabal of child sex traffickers, had illegally spied on the heroic, truth-telling Donald Trump without justification.

Later in his testimony, Barr would back away from the word “spying,” and would attempt to distance himself from the accusation that the intelligence community had conspired against Donald Trump. “I’m not suggesting that (the investigation) wasn’t adequately predicated,” he told the Senators, who had been understandably caught off-guard by his earlier comments about “spying”.
Seizing on Barr’s earlier comment, and ignoring the fact that he’d eventually walked back what he’d said, Donald Trump and his supporters once again went on the offensive, demanding members of the intelligence community be made to pay a price for what they’d done. Here’s a tweet from earlier today, in which Donald Trump suggests that the whole investigation was nothing more than a “treasonous hoax”.
To those who said that we should give Barr the benefit of the doubt over his poor handling of the Mueller report — which he still hasn’t given to Congress, by the way — I think we’ve now seen enough to know that his intentions are far from good. At every turn, he’s done Donald Trump’s bidding, and it just seems to be getting worse. He clearly doesn’t care about the long term damage being done to the intelligence agencies that he presides over as Attorney General, or the harm that he’s doing by sewing these seeds of distrust in American institutions. All he seems to care about is muddying the waters in hopes of helping Donald Trump to avoid facing the consequences of his actions. He was clearly selected for the job because he promised to shield Donald Trump for any investigations, and it would appear that every decision he’s made since has been with that objective in mind… I didn’t think it possible, but he’s making Jeff Sessions look like a heroic paragon of virtue in comparison.
Senator Mark Warner, I think, said it best. “Mr. Barr knows how counter-intel investigations work,” he said. “He knows there was ample evidence of Russian attempts to infiltrate the Trump campaign and that the FBI took lawful action to stop it. Giving a wink and a nod to this long-debunked “spying” conspiracy theory is irresponsible.”
And, like that, we’re seeing the reputation of yet one more person in Trump’s orbit turn to shit.

Something I don’t get is why a witch hunt would completely exonerate Trump. Witch hunts usually end with a mob burning the witch. The only way it makes sense is if the final report will reveal Mueller was not actually investigating Trump but Hillary, and the conclusion is she was the one colluding with the Russians to try to sabotage Trump. We may find out Flynn, Sessions, Manafort, Gates, Papadopoulos were all secretly working for the Democrats to make Trump look bad. We may even find out that the Trump tower meeting really was about Russian orphans. There are a lot of political risks in pursuing a counter investigation into anyone who instigated the investigation into the Russian meddling and the possibility of any Trump campaign collusion.
This is all a fight for public opinion. Both sides may push more on this and it will result in further polarization. The question is how many folks beyond the core Trump supporters can be swayed by this, and in which direction.
There are a lot of people who perceive everything beyond their experience or imagination to be “conspiracy theory.” But there are also lots of people who seem to be ready to jump on any “conspiracy theory” that appeals to their anger and desire to scapegoat.
Of course, there are also some people who reserve judgement and base any conclusions they do come to on what is suggested by the strength of evidence. But that is a small minority of people. The fight is focussed on the sway of the most manipulatable masses.

Call me crazy but I think that if there is evidence of multi=pronged Russian interference in a US election to favor one candidate over another and there is evidence of multiple connections within the campaign to Russian oligarchs and the Kremlin, then intelligence agencies surveilling that campaign seems not only reasonable but necessary.

The minute I heard about the dossier I said it sounds phony so no parroting; calling it like I see it. You are the one who believes that conspiracy theory. If there was a video why has no one but Tom Arnold seen it and NO ONE in the world has come forward with it? I’m surprised they didn’t put out a fake vid. Barr said the COUNSEL found that Russia hacked a DNC server. That’s what the FBI concluded based on CrowdStrike’s word. Did Mueller use any better info than that? If not, why? Why should anyone believe them? They were paid by the DNC. So if Assange blows the lid off the murder of Seth Rich you have to admit you are the one who believed in a DNC conspiracy theory, not me. I really don’t understand why someone would think Barr’s expression would need to be accompanied with evidence. He is announcing that he would like to investigate whether or not there is evidence of wrong doing.
What is abnormal about what Barr said? Are people really so hung up on the word “spy”? Barr announced that he wants to figure out if there was legitimate “probable cause” for the surveillance of Trump’s team. The surveillance is a fact. How is it not normal to want to make sure the surveillance occurs through legal processes? How is it not a normal thing to want to try to investigate?
Although I don’t like to predict the future. I will say– Comey had an interesting little response where he claimed to be clueless about what Barr means by “spying”. How did other people read that comment? It seemed extremely insincere to me. Voice was high pitched. Looking off into space. Total lack of confidence in his voice. Sounded defensive. The crimes were committed by Bradley/Chelsea Manning. He was convicted by court-martial in July 2013 of violations of the Espionage Act and other offenses, after disclosing to WikiLeaks nearly 750,000 classified, or unclassified but sensitive, military and diplomatic documents. Manning was found guilty of 20 counts, including espionage, theft and computer fraud and faced a sentence of as much as 136 years. He was actually sentenced to 35 years in prison. President Obama granted him clemency and released him from prison after only 7 years.
Assange published the information he received, an act which was determined to be legal in the matter of the Pentagon Papers.

And I said Biden will be implicated, but I didn’t give you a time frame for the indictment to be served, or whether one will be served. But I know how you feel. I’ve had my hopes up for 3 years that Clinton would finally get her due.

Supposedly two women claim to have been sexually assaulted. The first woman’s claim is that he intentionally broke the condom. How does one prove that in a court of law? What evidence do you have that makes you believe “Miss W’s” story (the other woman)? She met Assange and invited him home with her. Had consensual sex in the middle of the night and then claims that he “pentetrated” her in the morning without her consent while she was “asleep”. Sounds like she woke up and asked him to stop. She made the accusation shortly after Assange became famous for Wikileaks. Even Michael Moore thinks the women’s claims are fraudulent. Of course the Swedish government did not extradite him and the statute of limitations will likely lapse without any charges. No one should be charged solely because “she says so”.
