Trump doesn’t really want a wall. With impeachment on the horizon, he just wants to demonstrate that he has the support of America’s angry, terrified, racist, and uninformed white males.

As of yesterday, the federal government had been partially shut down for two weeks, and Donald Trump marked the occasion by tweeting out the above image, making it clear that he didn’t intend to give in, even though our national parks are overflowing with shit and TSA agents have stopped coming to work, bringing air travel to a near standstill. It’s difficult to say what Trump’s endgame is here, as public opinion seems to be building against him, but he says that the shutdown could go on for years, if that’s what it takes for him to get a wall built across our southern border.

The whole thing is completely fucked up. Trump says that the government shutdown is necessary, as it’s the only way for him to get his wall, and stop terrorists from making their way into America from Mexico, but the shutdown is actually keeping those agents patrolling the southern border from being paid. What’s more, there’s no evidence that terrorists are crossing over our southern border. In fact, they’re even admitting as much on Fox News… Here’s video from this morning of Chris Wallace taking on Sarah Huckabee Sanders on the subject.

But this was never about the truth. And it was never really about border security. If it was, we’d be discussing the fact that there’s still unspent money in the federal budget for border security, or that Donald Trump himself just recently conceded that the southern border is already “tight.” But here we are, discussing a ridiculous border wall because our President, beset by numerous criminal investigations, desperately needs to retain the support of his most diehard followers… the racists who ate it up when he promised them back in 2016 that he’d give them a “big, beautiful wall” to protect us from brown people from from shithole countries. So, here we are, not paying the people protecting the border, so that we can get a wall that national security experts agree would be absolutely useless, in order to appease people who apparently don’t understand that Mexicans have the technology necessary to build ladders.

Thankfully, while Donald Trump is lying about how former U.S. presidents have privately reached out to him and confided in him that they regret not having built a wall along the southern border themselves, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are doing the work of the American people, and trying their best to reopen those federal agencies we need in order to, among other things, provide border security. And, one would imagine, it’s just a matter of time before Republican Senators come to accept the reality of the situation and abandon Donald Trump on this issue. [Republican Senators Susan Collins and Cory Gardner are already talking about supporting Democratic initiatives to reopen the government without the border wall, and one would imagine that others will follow, seeing as how the Senate had already voted two weeks ago to keep the government funded without the wall, before Trump threw his tantrum and demanded a shutdown.]

67% of trump supporters do not fit into the class white male without a college degree.

    Define “uneducated”.

    Uneducated about what?

OK, you’re right. “Uneducated” was wrong. I changed it to, “angry, terrified, and uninformed.”

Not sure that non college educated is a necessary description. Key distinguishing feature would be the need, recognition, and ability to codeswitch easily between different social scenarios.

Sounds like you have super scientific opinion, Mark.

29% of Latino voters do not oppose Trump’s wall.

What percentage of white women voters do not oppose Trump’s wall?

“uneducated’ people are no more stupid in their voting when the stakes are personal than are educated liberals. Look at Ann Arbor’s recent election. Liberals are always thinking education overcomes cognitive bias, when that’s been shown to be untrue. That kind of smugness about our own privileges is our fatal flaw as a political group. What overcomes resistance to change is a clear and inspiring vision of the future. We have to be inspiring not smug. For a start.

Trump supporters as a group were more educated and more wealthy than HRC or Sanders supporters.

Pentagon Chief of Staff Kevin Sweeney resigned the day after Donald Trump said that he could use DOD funds to pay for the wall. It probably had more to do with Mattis quitting after Trump announced a pullout from Syria, but it’s still an interesting coincidence.

While many on this blog think Trump is doomed, he hasn’t lost any support from those who originally voted for him. And if he builds the wall and locks her up, he will be unbeatable in the next election.

    Walls won’t stop drugs.

    From Yahoo News.

One of President Trump’s go-to arguments for building a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico is that it will cut down on illegal drug traffic. “I talk about human traffickers, I talk about drugs, I talk about gangs,” Trump said at his White House press conference Friday afternoon, defending his insistence on including $5.6 billion for a wall as a condition for ending the government shutdown. Trump’s fixation on drugs coming across the U.S. border — he has posted eight Twitter messages on the subject in the past month — dates at least as far back to 2015, when he wrote: “El Chapo and the Mexican drug cartels use the border unimpeded like it was a vacuum cleaner, sucking drugs and death right into the U.S.”

As it happens, El Chapo — the nickname for the drug-cartel boss Joaquín Guzmán Loera — is on trial in federal court in New York City now, and just a day earlier one of his top lieutenants took the stand and testified about the various methods the gang used to smuggle drugs into the U.S. According to the New York Times account, he told “countless stories of … shipping tons of drugs in cars, trains, planes and submarines — even in a truck beneath a load of frozen meat.”

All very ingenious — but it implies that Trump is overlooking an important point: A wall won’t stop an airplane, or any of the other vehicles mentioned, a list that left out, among other known smuggling routes, speedboats and the U.S. Postal Service. And if, as Trump said in his 2015 tweet, smugglers can cross the border “unimpeded,” why would they need to go to the trouble of building a submarine?

Trump claimed in his remarks Friday that aerial surveillance detects “vast numbers of vehicles driving through the desert and entering where you don’t have a very powerful fence or a wall.”

In fact, cartels have much more efficient ways of getting drugs into the U.S. than carrying them across the roadless desert. As the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) reported in its 2016 National Drug Threat Assessment, “Mexican TCOs [transnational criminal organizations] transport the majority of their illicit drugs into the United States over land through the SWB [Southwest border] using a wide array of smuggling techniques. The most common method employed by Mexican TCOs involves transporting drugs in vehicles through U.S. ports of entry (POEs). Illicit drugs are smuggled into the United States in concealed compartments within passenger vehicles or commingled with legitimate goods on tractor trailers.”

If they launch an illegal insurrection, as he’s promised, they will be crushed. The military is sick if this stupid fucking clown show and the armed middle has their back. It’s going to be good to finally draw out and “neutralize” the worst of his domestic terrorist base.
