Even people in his own party think Bill Schuette is a douche

I haven’t been watching the Michigan gubernatorial race all that closely. Today, though, when I read that the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce had decided to endorse controversial, far-right Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, and that Founders Brewing had, in turn, left the Chamber, citing the Republican’s anti-gay agenda, I decided to do a little research… And do you know what I found?

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of enthusiasm for Bill Schuette, who, to be honest, a lot of people, even people in his own party, seem to think is kind of a douche.

Even with the endorsement of Donald Trump, and corporatist shills like Scott Walker and Pam Bondi, he just doesn’t seem to be making much headway. The most recent polling data shows him trailing Democrat Gretchen Whitmer by over 10 points, and, from the looks of it, he’s not even going to get the endorsement of Michigan’s current governor, Republican Rick Snyder. [As you might recall, Schuette, courting the Tea Party, came out against Proposal 1, Snyder’s attempt to raise the Michigan sales tax in order to fix the roads. The Prop 1 failed, and the Governor, as I understand it, never forgave Schuette.]

While having Donald Trump tweet awesome things about him might have been enough to get him through the primaries, it’s looking like it’s just not going to be enough to put him over the top during the general election. In fact, given Trump’s increasing unpopularity in Michigan, it may actually hurt him, which is probably why, over the past few months, we’ve seen Schuette start to distance himself from the President (while, of course, keeping the racism, sexism and fear mongering that he’s deployed so effectively). But, it just doesn’t seem to be working. Today I read that Schuette had lost the endorsement of the usually-conservative Michigan Association of Police Organizations. And, what’s more, some powerful Republicans, according to Jonathan Oosting of the Detroit News, have launched a new organization… Republicans and Independents for Whitmer.

And, it would seem, all Schuette has in response is more racism, and more fear.

Here, if you need further convincing, is a still from Schuette’s most recent television spot, where he tries to make the case that the Democratic ticket wants terrorists outfitted with surface-to-air missiles walking our streets.

If you’d like to give a few dollars to the Whitmer campaign you can do so here. Or, better yet, give a few hours of your time to knock on door… This, I don’t think I need to tell most of you, is really, really important.

One last thing… In Schuette’s defense, he does have some friends.

So does Schuette think Jeffrey Fieger isn’t the most extreme Democratic candidate in Michigan history. Does Schuette not remember his candidacy? What a line of bullshit that tweet is.

Rick Snyder is the most failed Michigan governor in many generations. His attempt to extort the largest tax increase in 50 years with the threat not to fix or maintain the roads if it wasn’t approved, was one of the most disgusting moments in state history. It was proven to be a bold-faced lie.

Attempted extortion is inexcusable. No one who would ever be a part of such a disgusting thing could possibly be redeemed.

Michigan government is a disgusting cesspool of corporate criminals and dim-witted bumpkins. It’s a good representation of the population and culture at large.

I predict many heavily democratic precincts in Oakland County run out of ballots, and many voting locations in Detroit have power outages on November 6th, just like they did in the August primary. It’s Schutte’s only hope.

iR, if there’s obvious election fraud like you’re predicting, and the peoples militia needs to muster, I hope you’ll show up in your Howdy Doody western gunfighter outfit. It will help ease the inevitable tension of the situation.

You didn’t mention that this Schuette ad uses photos of a “grim faced” Whitmer from several years ago that were taken of her as she told the story of her own sexual assault. Schuette has no soul.

I appreciate the suggesting JB. But I’m just predicting it. I’m not interested in doing anything about it. I’m just an observer. I am here just to enjoy the show. I’m still undecided on who I’ll be voting for inbtge governors’s race.

Looks like Schuette realizes he needs to do something quick to try to keep things close enough to rig.

    From WXYZ-TV:

“Attorney General Bill Schuette is investigating alleged sexual abuse and assault by Catholic priests from 1950 to the present for all seven Catholic dioceses in Michigan, according to a Freedom of Information Act request.”

Anonymous, if the Michigan Democrat knew what they were doing, they’d make the most of that fuck-up by the Schuette campaign. We’ll see what they do with it. I expect them to fumble.

What I’m saying, JB, is that the Michigan Democratic Party is overrun with morons, who deserve to be taken over and over by the same old simple tricks. It’s good entertainment.

My concerns about Whitmer aren’t as much with her personally as they are with the people who a win for her will be bringing into state leadership positions. If she wins, she’d need to look far beyond the Democratic Party leadership to make her appointments. I seriously doubt she’ll do that.

Besides, JB, aren’t you the one who is trying to develop a Liberal Panthers Revolutionary Front? Why wouldn’t you be organizing a Left Wing Militia to go make sure all the power stays on in Detroit on Election Day?

I thought you were serious about all that stuff you’ve been saying regarding left wingers arming themselves and being prepared for the onslaught of the right.

It seems fitting that Schuette would have Courtney Love’s rapist play his shitty songs at his rallies.

iR, we’re not antifa. First rule of civil war is don’t hand the authoritarians a reason to crackdown. But you have to already be prepared to fight once the opposition makes it the only option. Otherwise, always stay covert and keep your powder dry for the long haul.

But I do kinda like Liberal Panthers Revo Front….might need to tweak it some. Still pretty fluid on a name as we want to be totally inclusive of everyone willing to fight authoritarian putin loving pussy grabbers after marshall law is declared.

I want to go to a Schuette press conference and ask him if the Oakland County GOP can suppress enough votes by shorting the heavily Democratic precincts there to give him the win, or will it be necessary to knock out the power to several Detroit precincts on Election Day.

More and more I’m thinking the revolution has to be fun. My main concern about the young is they aren’t rebellious enough in a subversive fuck it all way. They are so fucking earnest and dutiful even when employing in group slang etc. Their obsession with labels is particularly disturbing to me. Afropunk is hopeful. Those queer flash mob dance parties at Mike Pences house were inspired. Maybe there’s more I don’t know about. I just know we have to make resistance fun. Because without fun the energy wains. Anger isn’t enough.

    From the Detroit News:

“Local clerks call out Oakland County clerk for Tuesday ballot shortage”

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.detroitnews.com/amp/949169002

If Lisa Brown isn’t able to short ballots to Democrat-heavy precincts in Oakland County, power is going to have to be knocked out to way more precincts in Detroit if we are to have any hope of getting Schuette into the Governors office.

I’ll tell you what. I’m going to vote at 6pm on election day. If by that time there have been no precincts shorted ballots in Oakland County, and no power outages in Detroit polling locations, I will vote for Schuette. Otherwise, I’ll vote for Whitmer.

I’m not excited by either prospect, but they’re both far better than the moron we’ve been saddled with this past seven years. Snyder is by far the dumbest, weakest, most ill-equipped failure Michigan has had as Governor in my lifetime.

IRobert— please clarify why you would ever consider voting for Schuette?
Because you hate the Dems party apparatus so much?
You understand that the gop via gerrymandering have secured a hold on legislative power in mi past 2020 even if prop 1 passes, right?
What interest would be served by a vote for Schuette? Please explain.

Whichever candidate wins the Governors race, they will just be a huge failure anyway. That is because of what you just pointed out, the Republicans have been destroying the state for 15 years, and will continue to no matter who the next governor is.

I would rather Schuette be the one to have to fight with the GOP morons who control the Michigan legislature. I’d like to see Michigan completely destroyed by them before the Democrats step in and get all the blame for what these assholes have been doing.

Schuette deserves the hopeless situation he’d be walking into. No Democrat does.

The Democrats in the legislature can’t even admit they have been irrelevant for a decade or more. Their enormous egos haven’t allowed them. The Republicans appreciate it, because it’s allowed them to pin blame on the Democrats for things they themselves did. The Democrats have just been sitting around waiting for their fantasies about pendulum swings to rescue them.

But don’t worry about my vote. There isn’t a chance in hell the Oakland County Republicans aren’t going to short Democratic precincts of ballots. And Democrats aren’t going to do a damn thing about it. Not before. Not During. Not after.
