As I’ve mentioned here before, I don’t think it’s particularly helpful at this stage of the game to point out the hypocrisy of those who continue to support Trump. As satisfying as it may be corner a Trump supporter and say, “Oh, I’m sure you would have been just as understanding if Obama had cheated on his wife with a porn star,” I’ve come to think that doing so is pretty much a waste of time. At this point, those people left in the Trump camp, I think it’s safe to assume, are in for the long haul, and completely impervious to whatever logical arguments might be directed their way. If you’ve stuck by Trump’s side as he’s talked about pussy grabbing, mocked the disabled, referred to Nazis as “fine” people, and repeatedly obstructed justice, I’ve got to think it’s pretty likely that my calling you out for your hypocrisy, when you complained about the national debt under Obama, but sit quietly now that Trump has pushed it beyond $21 trillion for first time ever, issn’t going to have much of an effect. No, I suspect my time is much better spent encouraging members of “the mass shooting generation” to register in advance of the midterm election. With that said, though… sometimes I can’t help but share things like this, in the off chance that it might catch one of my MAGA hat-wearing high school friends, neighbors, or relatives on a good day, where, for what ever reason, they may be reachable.
Fox News is not news. It’s propaganda.

There has been several times over the last year when I have wondered if you are allowing other people to write articles under your name. Just wondering: Did you write this article?

Mark, I hate to break it to you but people on the right either simply can’t see their own hypocrisy or they are smart enough to see it but don’t care. With *some* exceptions.
The right is full of true believers and rich, cynical manipulators with very few in between. This is my personal observation from abundant lifelong exposure to conservatives. Those in the first category aren’t about to give up. Those in the second didn’t vote for Trump but, like Congress, want to use him to their ends before destroying him. They see him as a hostile takeover of the GOP. However they finally take him out, they will do it in such a way that the true believers will follow. They are plotting against Trump. That’s how they work. They are just waiting a bit. They care about retaining power, limiting govt, and allowing businesses free reign. It’s not Russia, but the tartiffs that most threaten Trump’s presidency. If he goes rogue any more, they’ll use Russia or Daniels to take him out. But the reason for them is always about business interests. They don’t give a shot about the rest. And they ‘truly believe’ that putting business first is the best thing for the country.
FF— this is so clearly in Mark’s voice. Whet makes you think this site pays enough to hire writers? I have now heard from three people who think Mark’s motivations are profit driven. Or that this site brings in big $$. It’s ridiculous. People, for the most part, have zero clue about economic realities.
I think FF felt some sort of social affinity with MM, but since this piece explicitly calls out R hypocrisy, FF hopes that MM wasn’t the author, as the illusion would be broken.

Everyone knows that Mark employs a group of paid posters/commenters.
He meets us once a month, in Riverside Park, under cover of darkness – and hands out wads of cash he earns by hosting ads for Aubrees and the Sidetrack.
Hilariously, or maybe not so hilariously, Mark hasn’t sold an add for this site in well over a year. Or it might even be a few years at this point. He’s just too lazy to take down the adds that are up there. No fooling.
How does asking if Mark if he is always the only writer under the name “Mark” imply that I think Mark is paying people to write for him as part of a money-making scheme? Furthermore, why would I care if Mark makes a little money off this site. I don’t care if he makes a lot of money off of it, although I seriously doubt he does.
There have been a couple of times, in the last year, where the tone/ content/ perspective/ style seemed different. Not bad. But different.
My question is just born out of curiosity. Mark has mentioned people bring ideas to him. I am just wondering if people bring ideas and commentary to him and then he edits it with their knowledge…or something like that.
The rest of you guys are right though. I have hard time dealing with the shock of the news that Mark does not like Fox. My preconceived notions are shattered by the surprise of this new info about Mark.
Yup, I wrote it. I have, on occasion, posted things that others have written, though. It’s pretty rare, though. And, when it does happen, I always note it. On average, though, I don’t think it happens more than once or twice a year…. And it’s also true that no one is paying for those adds on the front page. I’m just too lazy to remove them. I liked the idea of promoting local companies, and making enough money to cover the hosting of the site, but I just didn’t have the time and energy to keep it up. And I sucked when it came to collecting.
FF– You asked if this post was written by Mark, not the commentary. I imagine anyone could comment under the name Mark. I wonder whether MM would do anything about such a situation.

Given that Mr. Flakes is known to be sympathetic to right wing views (not a slur, merely an observation), I assumed he may have been troubled by Mr. Maynard posting about FOX News.
You were right Jean. I was wondering about the articles under the name “mark” and not comments in the comment section. It sounds like Mark understood what I was asking about.
I guess the ‘writing under the name Mark’ part of your comment made me think you were talking about comments, since Mark doesn’t sign his posts ‘Mark.’
FWIW I have never been under the impression that FF is under the sway of Fox News, or apt to defend them, conservative or not. He seems more like a WSJ/National review kind of fella. I welcome his voice and perspective here.
What I think Mark means to say is that this blog is written in his voice. If you want to be technical about it, sure it’s actually RoboWriter software, like the Washington Post uses, which produces each of these articles. But, it first analyses all of Mark’s hand-typed posts from years ago when that was how he was doing them.
As far as Fox News goes, I just always have my TV tuned to that channel so that I’ll now the second when the order comes to activate the militia and join the battle in the streets against the deep state.
