Eminem throws down the gauntlet, telling his fans by way of freestyle cypher that they cannot like both him and Donald Trump

The above freestyle rap, recorded a few days ago in Detroit, just aired during the BET Hip Hop Awards. In it, Eminem, after addressing everything from Trump’s racism to his criticism of John McCain for having been captured during the Vietnam War, essentially tells his fans that, if they support the President, they can go fuck themselves. While it’s not terribly surprising, given Eminem’s earlier work against Bush, I suspect it’ll piss off a good number of people here in Michigan, where, in spite of what we’re seeing playing out in the world around us, folks still seem to respect the likes of Bob “Kid Rock” Ritchie, and the draft-dodging Ted Nugent, both of whom have made their unflagging support of Trump evident.

It’s taking celebrity actors, musicians and comedians to most effectively combat this reality show virus mutation manifestation of what’s sick with our society. They understand the rules of engagement a lot better than politicians, who still think they’re up against a politician.

Eminem should have gone to prison for sicking his bodyguards on Esham for making a rhyme and they beat him to within an inch of his life. What a piece of shit coward.

My Eminem-loving son to me this morning: “Told you so, Mom.”

pS I think I remember hearing that Eminem and Kid Rock were buddies back in the day in Detroit. Guess not anymore.

He had a major stumble almost right away so yeah, I think so, FF. He was known for free-style battles in the early days. Of course there is no way to know how many things a free-styler is pulling out of the back pocket of their mind so who knows really?

FWIW, I have always found kjc to be a valuable contributor here.

As for Eminem. I think he is one of the most brilliant poets of our age. Really.

Jean, you might be surprised. I know that Kid Rock at least values some differences of political opinion pre-Trump. https://youtu.be/oSQJ2ULuhb8

But who knows? I have had Jill Stein voting friends drop me over my views and before 2016 I never would have thought them the type. I have found it difficult knowing that some people I love a lot were willing to vote for Trump. I can barely tolerate it in them and I love them deeply. If I were an artist, I could totally see myself telling Trump supporters that my work is incompatible with their world view.

Lil sample of some of Lynne’s idea of the most brilliant poetry of our age:

“Slut you think I won’t choke no whore? ‘Til the vocal chords don’t work in her throat no more?”

“Got pissed off and ripped Pamela Lee’s tits off and smacked her so hard I knocked her clothes backwards like Kris Kross.”

“Ain’t no one safe from, non-believers there ain’t none, even make the bitches I rape cum.”

Re freestyle: my son did a report on the history of Detroit Hip Hop in elementary school and we spent a day hearing stories about Dilla, Proof, Eminem etc from a friend who grew up in Conant Gardens and was deep in the scene. We were told that the Detroit freestyle tradition evolved because they were listening to Brooklyn rap ‘battles’ thinking it was made up on the scene, rather than pre-written. They just didn’t know the difference, and so they got really good at winging it and helped create that part of the form. In this case I doubt he was winging it, but it’s cool that he was willing to screw up, stop and get it on again. I think it was both staged and free style. And that’s ok. Some of the best things are.

Also, re early hip hop, we learned that day that Proof and Dilla met in the Osborn high school marching band. Eminem snuck in and hung out on the lunch room with them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krd5ANdLlYg

It’s interesting that a dude who calls himself HYBORIAN WARLORD does not know what a persona is… even when that persona is given his own name.

Oh, yeah it’s so interesting isn’t it? And it’s sexist not to vote for Biliary Binton but it’s just having a persona to make millions rapping about raping and mutilating women.

And Debbie Harry didn’t go around eating cars. So what? Folsom Prison Blues is a poignant song about a man with deep regret for what he had done to put him away. If you think Eminem’s lyrics are pure poetry but you cry sexism every chance you get then sorry but you are fucked.

    Exactly, Bob.
HW– Who said it’s sexist not to vote for HRC? Acknowledging sexism in the campaign is not the same as saying all people who didn’t vote for her are sexist. I have made clear here that I think sexism and racism heavily influence voters. I have also made clear that I don;t think all Trump voters are sexist or racist.I don;t see those statements as contradictory.
Misogyny and sexual violence exists. I’m ok with people making art about it, even from the perspective of the perpetrator. I actually think it’s more useful than harmful. I don’t personally believe speech is violence. I actually think that distinction between speech and action is critically important. Many people disagree with me on that. They are free to disagree, because … free speech.

“But right now, I don’t think they politically deserve to be catered to. And I know them well enough to know most of them will never ever ever vote for HRC anyway. Just like Bernie or Busters– It’s asking to much of them to admit their criticism is largely based on misinformation, lies and sexism.”

You are incorrect. Read the lyrics.

“I’ma walk inside a mosque on Ramadan
And say a prayer that every time Melania talks
She gets her mou— ahh, I’ma stop
But we better give Obama props”

It was planned. It was filmed in advance. Do you think he would keep a “major stumble” in the final video. As far as it not being scripted, yeah, it definitely was. Its not like his old rap battles where he plays off of the other guy in a somewhat spontaneous way.

also, KJC has never contributed a single positive thing to this blog. She does nothing but attack people personally, call people trolls, and other nonsense.

It is entirely possible to be sexist and still write great poetry. I am kind of fond of Byron even though by many accounts he was cruel and possibly a sociopath. Talent isnt just for good people. Not that I think Eminem is a cruel person or a sociopath. He is very talented with words though regardless of his flaws as a person.
