Alt Right racist propaganda found in EMU library

According to what I’m reading on social media this morning, this card was found yesterday at Eastern Michigan University’s Halle Library. It was, I’ve been told, left on a sign next to an elevator. I suspect some will say that not much meaning can be drawn from it, as it could just be the work of a single individual on a campus of over 20,000, but, given the climate of the United States post-Trump, and the recent incidents of racist graffiti on EMU’s campus, one hopes the administration is taking it seriously, and active measures are being taken to ensure that this insidious ideology doesn’t gain a foothold campus.

What has the new President done thus far to address these incidents? Does anyone know?

Yeah, I was wondering what graphic designer got the job of updating the swastika for them.

Wow…that sucks. I guess the “Alt Right” has also adopted a symbol that was used by the Nazi as well, but lesser known. It is some sort of ancient rune. You’ll have to look it up. I’m at work, and not doing it on this computer.

It doesn’t help that *nobody* reported this to anyone at the Library. If you want administration to respond, you really ought to consider reporting it to the administration. You can do both: break the story on social media AND report it to administration. It’s not either/or.

We have emboldened the racists by electing someone who ran on a racist platform. booo!

THAT IS NOT AN ALT RIGHT LOGO OR A SWASTIKA.

It is the “Jera” rune from the Elder Futhark. Nazis and NeoNazis already appropriated that Othala rune, and now they’re trying to steal another one. This is unacceptable.

Looks like Carl’s right. It’s the Jera rune.

S.D., just because it’s not being talked about in your circles doesn’t mean it’s not being talked about. Because I’m NOT on campus and I’m seeing and hearing that people I know ARE talking about it.

There’s a lot of cross-over between neonazi assholes and people who embrace the old norse religions, which fuckin’ sucks, because what did the old norse religions ever do to you?? Assholes. Leave runes alone!

I wasn’t expecting people to be more upset by the use of runes than the racist content.

Interesting choice of ID, 88. I assume we’re all aware of this troll’s number and it’s racist context?

    Racists already piss me off.
Racists using my religion piss me off even more.
Racists getting cute about it aren’t funny and need to sod off.

The alt-right is not a nonviolent platform. Cultural violence leads to physical warfare. Always has and always will.

WTF. I chose that as an alias because, when I started posting, my grandfather had just turned 88 years old and we’d just celebrated his birthday. Damn. I guess I’d better find a new alias. Did the Nazi’s ever use the phase Cattbutt?

    To Students, Faculty and Staff:

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is investigating the presence of a business card advocating hate and racism found in Halle Library this morning. The card was quickly removed once discovered.

I want to stress again, as I did last fall, that such attacks are hurtful to all of us in the campus community – students, faculty and staff – who work every day to make Eastern a welcoming and inclusive campus. We must continue to work together in this way, embracing our unity and common purpose in being a University of opportunity for all. These messages are not Eastern; they are not us. And they may not stop anytime soon, likely due to the actions of a few people who seek to divide our community and gain attention for their hateful messages. Indeed, these are polarizing times, calling for diligent work by all of us to further mutual understanding and support.

I assure you that this investigation and identifying those responsible will be a high priority for our Police. I also want to note that the racist vandalism incidents of last fall remain under active investigation, with police having spent hundreds of hours on that effort. Also, the $10,000 reward remains in effect for information in connection with those crimes.

There will be further updates as the situation warrants. Please join me in standing together with our students, faculty and staff and all in our community who condemn hate and racism.

I want to remind our community that we have many avenues to discuss concerns related to these matters, including our Department of Diversity and Community Involvement. In addition, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers free and confidential counseling to students seeking additional support. Students can make an appointment to talk to a counselor by calling 734-487-1118 during business hours. Students may also access CAPS’ after-hours phone support in the evenings and weekends by calling 734-487-1118. Students whose first language is not English may talk to a counselor in their preferred language. To access the International Student Support Program (ISSP), students may call 1-866-743-7732 or chat online with a counselor at https://us.myissp.com/Home/UniversitySearch.

But a college campus is filled with all kinds of identity promotions. I’m no alt-right sympathizer, but what if people just ignored it? Maybe crumpled it up and put it in trash? FEAR is what gives this shit power. When the hate speech grafifiti was discovered, I was all about finding the perps – protesting it, talking to my class about it etc. This is different. Again – I am NOT in favor, but this really is an example of free speech we just don’t like.

The same business cards, which, appear to me to be promotional material for websites, were found in locations in Lee’s Summit, MO, a few weeks.

Sorry, 88. Given it’s prodigious use online, I assumed the worst. Mea culpa. Perhaps a shift in nicknames would be for the best.

I took one for the team and reversed search this image. Not kidding, the thing that popped up was the quote “I don’t do drugs, I am drugs” by Salvador Dali.

Also some shit from David Duke.

I wonder if there was an intended hidden meaning behind leaving a card in the natural history museum? I guess in order to come up with a decent theory we would need to have an understanding of basic terms, beliefs and a bunch of crap…Definitely not a purple swastika though.

    Lavender all the way.
