The real story isn’t that the Russians apparently have video of Trump engaged in piss play with Moscow prostitutes, but that he essentially hired the Russians to steal the election for him, offering the Ukraine in return. If true, it’s treason.

From the very beginning, I’ve thought that the Russians had something sexual on Trump. I’ve kept quiet about this suspicion until now, though, as I recognized that it wasn’t based on anything but a hunch, knowing a bit about Trump’s history with young models, and the way Putin’s security forces operate. So, not wanting to be labeled a conspiracy theorist, or muddy the waters with insane-sounding birther-like theories, I just waited quietly, knowing that I’d eventually catch wind of something. [As Obama said just a few minutes ago, “Reality has a way of catching up with you,” and I knew Trump’s time would come.] Well, today, the news I’d been waiting for finally broke. An intelligence dossier that, according to news reports, was passed from a former MI6 operative in Moscow, to an emissary of John McCain, to FBI Director Comey… if it can be believed… seems to indicate that the Russians are in possession of a video showing Donald Trump, while staying in the presidential suite of the Moscow Ritz Carlton, directing prostitutes to piss on one another for his enjoyment, soiling a bed that President and Mrs. Obama had recently slept in. Surprisingly, though, that’s not the part of the report that I found most alarming. What struck me the hardest was the revelation that Trump, in exchange for Russia’s help in taking down Clinton, had agreed to essentially allow the Russians to take the Ukraine. And, yes, I would think that’s enough to ensure that impeachment procedures get underway the very minute he takes the oath of office on January 20. Here, for those of you who are interested, is the section of the intelligence report that I’m referring to. [Don’t worry. We’ll get into the salacious sex stuff in just a minute.]

screen-shot-2017-01-10-at-8-52-47-pm

And, here, to give you some context, is something I’d written shortly after the Republican National Convention this past summer in a post titled “To what extent is Donald Trump a surrogate of Vladimir Putin?

…Just before the Republican National Convention, the Republican party released their new platform for 2016. The New York Times called it “the most extreme Republican platform in memory.” Among other things, according to the Times, this new platform outlined positions “making no exceptions for rape or women’s health in cases of abortion; requiring the Bible to be taught in public high schools; selling coal as a ‘clean’ energy source; demanding a return of federal lands to the states; insisting that legislators use religion as a guide in lawmaking; appointing ‘family values’ judges; barring female soldiers from combat; and rejecting the need for stronger gun controls — despite the mass shootings afflicting the nation every week.” This apparently came to pass largely because Donald Trump, who would go on just a few days later to accept the party’s nomination for President, didn’t push back. With one notable exception, Trump and his team, accepted everything that was suggested without debate.

According to Talking Points Memo, “The Trump Camp was totally indifferent to the platform. So party activists were able to write one of the most conservative platforms in history. Not with Trump’s backing but because he simply didn’t care. With one big exception: Trump’s team mobilized the nominee’s traditional mix of cajoling and strong-arming on one point: changing the party platform on assistance to Ukraine against Russian military operations in eastern Ukraine.”

That’s right. They didn’t push back against any of the retrograde domestic policies, but, curiously, they insisted that proposed wording about our need to arm the Ukrainians to fight Russian and rebel forces be stricken, “contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington,” according to the Washington Post.

And this is the first thing that came to mind this morning when I read Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager’s comments concerning the recent Wikileaks release of some 20,000 DNC emails which appear to show that those overseeing the Democratic primary process were biased in favor Clinton. Telling CNN’s Jake Tapper “I don’t think it’s coincidental that these emails were released on the eve of our convention,” Robby Mook went on to say that security experts have indicated that the hack was initiated in Russia. “What’s disturbing to us is that experts are telling us Russian state actors broke into the DNC, stole these emails, and other experts are now saying that the Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of actually of helping Donald Trump,” Mook said…

So now we have an intelligence report, which, if it can be believed, confirms that, yes, the Trump campaign altered the Republican platform on behalf of the Russians, in exchange for their sharing of hacked emails stolen from Democratic Party servers. [Trump, as you may recall, went even further after the convention by stating that, under his leadership, the United States may no longer honor it’s commitments to NATO countries.] The sex stuff, as far as I’m concerned, pales in comparison. This… again, if true… proves that our President-elect conspired with the government of a known dictator to steal an election, putting our own national interests, and those of our allies, behind his desire for personal power. If true, this would prove that our incoming President essentially bought the election, paying for it with the lives of the Ukrainians, who are presently being subjected to Russian war crimes. And, yes, I think this would be classified as treason.

As for where this report comes from, it’s apparently a long story that begins late last year, when, according to CNN, Republican Senator John McCain was told by a former British diplomat that a retired MI6 agent working in Moscow had gathered credible intelligence concerning ties between the Trump campaign and the Putin’s government. Here, with more on how it went down, is a clip from The Guardian.

…The Guardian can confirm that the documents reached the top of the FBI by December. Senator John McCain, who was informed about the existence of the documents separately by an intermediary from a western allied state, dispatched an emissary overseas to meet the source and then decided to present the material to Comey in a one-on-one meeting on 9 December, according to a source aware of the meeting. The documents, which were first reported on last year by Mother Jones, are also in the hands of officials in the White House.

McCain is not thought to have made a judgment on the reliability of the documents but was sufficiently impressed by the source’s credentials to feel obliged to pass them to the FBI.

The Senate armed services committee, which Senator McCain chairs, launched an inquiry last week into Russian cyber-attacks during the election.

McCain was reluctant to get involved, according to a colleague, for fear the issue would be dismissed as a personal grudge against Trump. He pushed instead for the creation of a special Senate committee to look into connections between campaign staff and Moscow, but the proposal was blocked by the Republican leadership…

Which brings us to the most salacious revelation in the report – the piss play in the presidential suite of the Moscow Ritz Carlton. Here’s what the report says.

screen-shot-2017-01-10-at-8-50-35-pm

Could this be a load of bullshit? I suppose so. My gut, however, tells me that it’s not. Regardless, though, one has to wonder why we’re finding out about it now, on the eve of Trump’s big press conference, and just 10 days before he’s sworn in as our 45th President. If I had to guess, I’d say that our intelligence community has finally had enough of Trump’s negative comments about the value of their work, and this is how they’ve decided to pay him back. [I liked this Face The Nation headline from two days ago: “Former acting CIA chief Morell says Trump’s intel disparagement will have ‘significant effects’.”] For what it’s worth, though, I don’t think there are many in Washington, on either side of the aisle, who will be sad to see Trump go. Everyone in D.C., even if they can’t agree as to what extent Trump is actually an agent of Russia, knows that he’s an unstable and dangerous mess.

So, here’s the big question… How many “golden showers” will we see in the audience during the inauguration? How many people, do you think, the moment Trump puts his hand on the bible, will squeeze water bottles over their heads, shooting glistening streams of yellow liquid into the air? I’ve got to think there will be thousands of people doing it, right?

Oh, and I doubt any of this will change the opinion of Trump supporters. Even if the video were released, showing our President-elect ordering Russian prostitutes to piss on one another, they’d find a way to excuse it… The right wing blogosphere is pretty quite right now, but I expect we’ll start seeing posts like this from the likes of Laura Ingraham soon enough.

jellyfishstings2

And stay tuned for tomorrow’s post, which will be titled, “I guess I was right about the oil too.”

Yeah. I’ve been thinking for a while that the establishment Republicans are planning to impeach him or at least hold it over his head to keep him in line.

On the meantime, here is a song for the day:

the Women’s March on DC may become a real pissing match… up to 100,000 thousand women. No facilities. Golden Showers. It’s just going to happen.

It’s hard to resist. But the sexual proclivities are not the story, and thank you for pointing that out. It’s still not verified, but many of the more sober reporters seem to think this is something real. They are also subject to narrative bias, especially if rumors have been brewing for months.

As to why now, I heard it was simply to assure that the investigation was followed through on after Obama leaves office. It’s still just pieces. We’ll see.

Trump is calling it fake news. There really was no way that language wasn;t going to be turned around endlessly.

From the national security blog Lawfare.

We have had the document for a couple of weeks and have chosen, as have lots of other publications, not to publish it while the allegations within it remain unproven. In response to CNN’s report, however, Buzzfeed has now released the underlying document itself, which is available here.

Whether or not its release is defensible in light of the CNN story, it is now important to emphasize several points.

First, we have no idea if any of these allegations are true. Yes, they are explosive; they are also entirely unsubstantiated, at least to our knowledge, at this stage. For this reason, even now, we are not going to discuss the specific allegations within the document.

Second, while unproven, the allegations are being taken quite seriously. The President and President-elect do not get briefed on material that the intelligence community does not believe to be at least of some credibility. The individual who generated them is apparently a person whose work intelligence professionals take seriously. And at a personal level, we can attest that we have had a lot of conversations with a lot of different people about the material in this document. While nobody has confirmed any of the allegations, both inside government and in the press, it is clear to us that they are the subject of serious attention.

Third, precisely because it is being taken seriously, it is—despite being unproven and, in public anyway, undiscussed—pervasively affecting the broader discussion of Russian hacking of the election. CNN reported that Senator John McCain personally delivered a copy of the document to FBI Director James Comey on December 9th. Consider McCain’s comments about the gravity of the Russian hacking episode at last week’s Armed Services Committee hearing in light of that fact. Likewise, consider Senator Ron Wyden’s questioning of Comey at today’s Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, in which Wyden pushed the FBI Director to release a declassified assessment before January 20th regarding contact between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. (Comey refused to comment on an ongoing investigation.)

So while people are being delicate about discussing wholly unproven allegations, the document is at the front of everyone’s minds as they ponder the question: Why is Trump so insistent about vindicating Russia from the hacking charges that everyone else seems to accept?

Fourth, it is significant that the document contains highly specific allegations, many of which are the kind of facts it should be possible to prove or disprove. This is a document about meetings that either took place or did not take place, stays in hotels that either happened or didn’t, travel that either happened or did not happen. It should be possible to know whether at least some of these allegations are true or false.

Finally, fifth, it is important to emphasize that this is not a case of the intelligence community leaking sensitive information about an investigative subject out of revenge or any other improper motive. This type of information, referencing sensitive sources and methods and the identities of U.S. persons, is typically treated by the intelligence community with the utmost care. And this material, in fact, does not come from the intelligence community; it comes, rather, from private intelligence documents put together by a company. It is actually not even classified.

All of which is to say to everyone: slow down, and take a deep breath. We shouldn’t assume either that this is simply a “fake news” episode directed at discrediting Trump or that the dam has now broken and the truth is coming out at last. We don’t know what the reality is here, and the better part of valor is not to get ahead ahead of the facts—a matter on which, incidentally, the press deserves a lot of credit.

if this is true, it’s the first cool thing about trump i’ve heard.

everyone should try piss play at least once in their lives. it can be very erotic. americans are still less open sexually than the rest of the world.

i find this entire post distasteful because it makes fun of a sexual kink. would you make fun of trump if he liked pegging or liked to give facials or liked bdsm?

you say How many people, do you think, the moment Trump puts his hand on the bible, will squeeze water bottles, shooting glistening streams of yellow liquid into the air? if hillary had been elected and there was a mass demonstration about menstruation, it would be condemned by the left. to postulate making fun of golden showers makes you look like you have the maturity of a thirteen year old boy.

I was going to joke, at the end of the post, that Trump got a better send-off from the CIA than Kennedy, but then I decided that it might just make me look like more of a conspiracy theorist. But, yeah, if it’s true that our intelligence community is responsible for this somehow, I guess Trump should be thankful, as I’m sure they could have done worse. They could have, for instance, released the videotape.

I’m sorry if I inadvertently insulted your kink. That wasn’t my objective. For what it’s worth, I suspect I would have commented regardless of the act. So I wouldn’t take it personally. And, as someone pointed out, the whole point of this post was that the sex wasn’t the most interesting thing in the report.

While we’re on the subject of golden showers, here’s an interesting story. When I lived in LA, I was friends with a record industry guy who once told me about an exec at his company that, whenever he came to town, would hire a prostitute to lay in the tub of his hotel room while he pissed on her. That’s how he’d start his trip. I’ll take your word for it when you say it’s “erotic.” In that instance, though, it just sounds like misogyny.

The Lawfare piece is interesting. Maybe it wasn’t the intelligence community coming after Trump, as I’d suggested. Maybe they do see intelligence as sacrosanct. But, then again, Comey did announce that he was reopening the FBI investigation into Clinton, in violation of accepted protocol. So maybe things are changing. I’m just fascinated by the timing, and the possibility that someone somewhere made the decision that, for the good of the nation, they had no choice but the override the will of the people. But, yeah, it could just be that Buzzfeed wanted to get a shit load of hits.

I also see nothing at all wrong with this type of sexual behavior assuming consent. While Trump’s connections with Russia and Russian potential to be able to blackmail Mr. Trump are certainly questionable, Trump character needs to be judged based all of the other horrible things he says and does.

Help. This is such a troubling comment. To equate menstruation with a man’s request to have prostitutes piss on a bed because the president and his wife had slept in it? Clinton is undoubtedly past menopause, right? which makes this suggestion not even fit, even if it weren’t so glaringly odd and misogynistic.

dennis seems to have forgotten that sex is funny. I know a lot of people with kinks and they can joke about it. In fact they do all the time. I undertsand there’s a line between laughing at oneself and being laughed at, but it’s Trump, a public bully who routinely makes fun of all sorts of other people, so I don’t care. At all. Fair game. I suggest dennis be a little less uptight about sex and laughing about sex.

The pissing is not the story, but it will be the story, because people will make it the story. Because they are curious, and it’s funny and in the ways Joe, Olivia and Mark have described, also disturbing. I hope the media at least tries, as Mark has done, to redirect the conversation to the accused activities that were criminal.

Meanwhile, this will die unless a tie to the campaign can be established and the docs verified, which seems almost impossible.https://lawfareblog.com/about-explosive-trump-story-take-deep-breath

Some gathering of the threads here. I can think of a few more, including the RNC platform. And the loans provided by Russia to Trump post bankruptcy.

    1. in light of the fact that we’re supposed to be skeptical about the latest #Trump allegations, I want to tell you a story. 2. A long time ago, there was a man named Paul Manafort. Paul Manafort was a GOP operative who exported his political expertise. 3. He and Roger Stone ran what was known in DC as The Torturer’s Lobby. They worked with warlords and despots.4. Paul Manafort even worked closely with Russian oligarchs and kleptocrats with ties to V. Putin. 5. Manafort was one of the operatives who worked in Ukraine to elect a pro-Putin government. This is a verifiable fact. 6. At one point, Manafort went missing for 3 weeks. Roger Stone joked that he had been kidnapped by the Russians. This is about 2010
    7. According to some members of the intelligence community, around the same time, Russia began cultivating Donald Trump as an intel asset 8. Timing, I’m sure, is totally coincidental. Just giving you a sense of where we’re at in the history. 9. In 2011, Donald Trump starts the birther movement. Remember that whole thing? 10. In 2012, Donald Trump flirts with a run for President, but he doesn’t run. 11. At some point, Hillary Rodham Clinton runs afoul of Vladimir Putin. She and Obama both take aggressive stance toward him. 12. Then in 2016, Donald J Trump declares his Presidency. He starts as a long-shot managed by Corey Lewandowski. 13. As Trump grows in prominence, he fires Lewandowski and hires…Paul Manafort. Whose last job was in Ukraine. On behalf of Putin. 14. Paul Manafort, who owned a lobbying firm with Trump confidant Roger Stone. 15. Paul Manafort, who had been kidnapped (presumably) by Russians at one point but survived unharmed. 16. Trump’s positions on Russia softened under Manafort (re Ukraine specifically). Manafort’s in charge over summer. 17. It comes out that Manafort received 12 millions dollars in an off-books ledger from the pro-Putin party in Ukraine. 18. Wait back up. Before this comes out, the DNC emails are hacked. Wilkileaks releases the hacked emails. 19. Why did Assange do this if it was an intel op by Russia? Possibly for the promise of asylum, but that’s speculation on my part. 20. Maybe because he hates Clinton and Obama, but, again, speculating. 21. Regardless, these leaks hurt one party and helped the other. 22. So now Manafort resigns after the Ukraine thing comes out. Trump hires Steve Bannon, ANOTHER one of Stone’s friends. 23. Manafort probably keeps advising Trump. Regardless he lives in Trump Tower, so they see each other periodically. 24. Incidentally Roger Stone officially resigned in December 2015. So now Stone and Manafort are unofficial advisors, strictly speaking. 25. Two of Trump’s new policy guys are Michael Flynn and Carter Page. Both of whom have ties to Putin and Russia. 26. Galas with Putin, RT dinners, speaking engagements, etc. So Manafort, Flynn, and Page. Remember the names for a bit. 27. Now Wikileaks starts leaking John Podesta’s emails. Mostly harmless stuff, but Hillary Clinton and emails is just a bad look.28. We know they were hacked, we suspect by a state agent, and if you’ve been paying attention, the answer’s pretty clear. 29. So the election happens and Trump wins. Then the intelligence community confirms what most of us knew or suspected. 30. That Putin had launched an intel op specifically to hurt Clinton. Then it came out that he wanted Trump to win. 31. That he was behind the DNC attacks, that he was behind the Podesta hacks, all Putin from the get-go. 32. Curiously PEOTUS refuses to accept the findings of the intel community. Claims it coulda been anybody! Defends Assange. Curious. 33. In response, POTUS Obama kicks out 35 alleged Russian spies posing as diplomats. Pretty big move. 34. The intel community seems pretty certain as to the facts at this point, and Obama is doing stuff he wouldn’t do otherwise. 35. So today this new trove of background comes out. BUT IT’S UNVERIFIED. Yeah, so what? 36. What do the documents say? That about 6 years ago (around when Trump started birtherism), they began cultivating him. 37. That they conspired to get leverage over him. That they preferred him to HRC. 38. That they had Russian spies in the US posing as go-betweens. 39. That there was high-level cooperation with Trump’s campaign. Via Paul Manafort and Carter Page. Remember them? 0. So we’re supposed to SUPER SKEPTICAL about all of this. I mean, I guess so? 41. If you didn’t know who Paul Manafort was, or what he did, or who Carter Page was, etc. 42. If you didn’t find it odd that Trump’s SecState-Elect won the Order of Friendship from Vladimir Putin. 43. If you ignored all of these things, I guess it’s healthy to be skeptical about this. 44. I’m not an intelligence professional; I have the benefit of being able to make unqualified claims. 45. I dunno when it started or what the end game was, but Russia wanted Trump and cultivated him for years.46. Paul Manafort offered Trump the Presidency if he played ball with Putin. That’s what Flynn and Carter Page were for. 47. Manafort and Page were the go-betweens. The 35 expelled diplomats were in on it. The IC is clear on exactly how it happened. 48. You can say this is all circumstantial, that Manafort and Putin and Trump and Stone and Page and Flynn all met in a locker room one day. 49. But to me this has been clear as day since Manafort signed up. He was working for Putin on Trump’s behalf. Or vice versa. 50. He quit when he became toxic. He didn’t GO anywhere. 51. So here we are, a week out from inaugurating a compromised asset of Russian intelligence President of the United States. 52. I don’t have some cool conclusion to the story because it’s a scary story without a good ending. This is the new reality.

God damn, Jean! That post is unreadable. I freaking hate it when people try to use twitter for real stuff. They made it 140 characters on purpose so that no one has to have a thought that is longer. It was designed for morons. Anyways, I have fixed it :)

    Edited post below:
    ———————————————————————————————–
Some gathering of the threads here. I can think of a few more, including the RNC platform. And the loans provided by Russia to Trump post bankruptcy.

    1. in light of the fact that we’re supposed to be skeptical about the latest #Trump allegations, I want to tell you a story.

    2. A long time ago, there was a man named Paul Manafort. Paul Manafort was a GOP operative who exported his political expertise.

    3. He and Roger Stone ran what was known in DC as The Torturer’s Lobby. They worked with warlords and despots.

    7. According to some members of the intelligence community, around the same time, Russia began cultivating Donald Trump as an intel asset

Mostly harmless stuff, but Hillary Clinton and emails is just a bad look.

    45. I dunno when it started or what the end game was, but Russia wanted Trump and cultivated him for years.

    From Jean’s factcheck link:

“Mr. Trump said most Americans don’t care that he hasn’t released his tax returns.”

This is false, polls show, though there is a partisan divide on the subject.

A Pew Research Center poll this month showed that 60 percent of Americans think Mr. Trump should release his returns; only 33 percent said he doesn’t have a responsibility to do so. The poll, consistent with earlier surveys, found a partisan split: Nearly four in five Democrats said Mr. Trump should release his returns, but just 38 percent of Republicans did so.

So far, however, Mr. Trump has stuck to his guns, and the longer he delays, the greater the likelihood the public will move on, though all recent presidents have released their tax returns as a matter of course.

I absolutely agree. At this point, everything else (including the alleged sex scandals) is just a sideshow.

I watched today’s press conference and watched in horror as the man who is set to occupy the White House in just over a week demonstrated outright contempt for the rule of law … while attacking and threatening the press. If he’s doing that now … how much worse will it be if he actually gains the power of the presidency?

If this is all false, then the president-elect deserves to have his name cleared. “There is a darker possibility, however—namely that the dossier was leaked to muddy the waters, perhaps even to distract from even more troubling information about Trump’s ties to the Kremlin.
Russian intelligence calls this provokatsiya—provocation—and it’s as commonplace as kompromat in their ranks. This wouldn’t be the first time that Kremlin spies leaked secret information, partly true, to throw spies and journalists off the real trail. “It would be what I’d do,” explained a former KGB senior officer whom I’ve known for years. Possessing long experience with provocation against Western governments, my friend added how Russian spies would approach this: “I would certainly let the media know some of what we have on Trump, to confuse reporters, and also to let the new president know we can take him down at any time, so he better do what Moscow wants.”

EOS– I think I’ve made it clear here that I understand this is not verified information. Multiple links posted with details about what is known and not known. If it were just this story alone, you could call it fake news. But there are far too many other threads connecting Trump and crew to Russia in verified ways. We also now know that there are multiple interbureau investigations of Trump ties to Russia, including financial. The information about the dossier and more was shared with the POTUS and PEOTUS. So Intel thinks there may be some validity. (Not that they haven’t been way off before) So we wait and see. And we talk about it culturally, so the investigation will go on. So we can find the truth. Maybe. Eventually.

I think I remember you insisting that the DNC hacks being tied to Russia were also fake news. Do you still hold that position? Or have you been un-duped?

Awww, thanks for thinking of me, Kat. I’m pretty sure I’m not a Trumpie. I’m in the same boat as EOS on that: I voted against Clinton. For sure there are things I appreciate about Donald Trump: he exposed the corrupt political system in the debates, he is serious about bringing jobs back (already starting to happen) and he doesn’t hang out on sex slave islands(!) What else? The establishment is terrified of him (see Bush and Clinton fams align.) He has expressed a desire for peace that I hope he can cultivate in reality.

I am worried about his seeming devotion to Israel. He is cheesy with the hair and orange face. Don’t know what that is about haha! A lot of this other stuff is overblown. The Russian hacking claim and this new story reeks of desperation by a system that knows it fucked up big time by miscalculating what it would take to beat him. The intelligence reports are lacking. Lots of experts have said they have nothing of substance.

There’s a search option on this site that allows you to quickly find comments that were previously posted. I never said that the DNC hacks being tied to Russia were fake news. What I said was. “There’s still no hard evidence that Russia was directly involved, merely assessments of a politically motivated intelligence system carrying out the wishes of the outgoing president.” And Assange has repeatedly said that he did not get the information from anyone connected with the Russian government. The DNC emails were not fake news. They were actual emails and this has been confirmed.

Please don’t follow Peter’s lead and make posts about what I previously wrote that do not accurately reflect what I previously wrote.

Clinton has expressed desire for peace too. Hyborian you keep saying nothing relevant. No one cares why you voted for Truno over Hillary. Why would we care now? He’s patently obviously not a president who will likely lead us to peace and neither was Clinton. Having no basic diplomatic skills and a hair trigger temper and compulsion to retaliate is kind of a deficit in the peace making department. No one believe anything Trump says, not even hiscsupporters. His words are meaningless. Look at his actions. He’s our president in 8 days, so let’s hold him accountable. That is the thing about Trump that allows him to appeal to those who aren’t prone to thinking critically. Yes, he has said he wants to reduce military spending by closing bases and getting NATO countries to pay us. He has also stated that he wants to increase military spending in order to build a strong military. It is amazing how many of his supporters hear what they want to hear even as he contradicts himself. If he actually reduces our defense budget, I will be quite happy but knowing what I know about how embedded with defense contractors the GOP is, I am not holding my breath.

His approval rating is about the lowest we’ve had for an incoming president. I just hope that those who disapprove of him and who didn’t vote or voted third party are rethinking that decision and that it will affect their behavior in 2018

It doesn’t hurt my feelings when you say that you think my thinking skills are lacking because I don’t think you have the skills necessary to form a good opinion on the subject.

Glenn Greenwald makes me hate myself.

IN JANUARY, 1961, Dwight Eisenhower delivered his farewell address after serving two terms as U.S. president; the five-star general chose to warn Americans of this specific threat to democracy: “In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.” That warning was issued prior to the decadelong escalation of the Vietnam War, three more decades of Cold War mania, and the post-9/11 era, all of which radically expanded that unelected faction’s power even further.

This is the faction that is now engaged in open warfare against the duly elected and already widely disliked president-elect, Donald Trump. They are using classic Cold War dirty tactics and the defining ingredients of what has until recently been denounced as “Fake News.”

Their most valuable instrument is the U.S. media, much of which reflexively reveres, serves, believes, and sides with hidden intelligence officials. And Democrats, still reeling from their unexpected and traumatic election loss as well as a systemic collapse of their party, seemingly divorced further and further from reason with each passing day, are willing — eager — to embrace any claim, cheer any tactic, align with any villain, regardless of how unsupported, tawdry and damaging those behaviors might be.

The serious dangers posed by a Trump presidency are numerous and manifest. There are a wide array of legitimate and effective tactics for combatting those threats: from bipartisan congressional coalitions and constitutional legal challenges to citizen uprisings and sustained and aggressive civil disobedience. All of those strategies have periodically proven themselves effective in times of political crisis or authoritarian overreach.

But cheering for the CIA and its shadowy allies to unilaterally subvert the U.S. election and impose its own policy dictates on the elected president is both warped and self-destructive. Empowering the very entities that have produced the most shameful atrocities and systemic deceit over the last six decades is desperation of the worst kind. Demanding that evidence-free, anonymous assertions be instantly venerated as Truth — despite emanating from the very precincts designed to propagandize and lie — is an assault on journalism, democracy, and basic human rationality. And casually branding domestic adversaries who refuse to go along as traitors and disloyal foreign operatives is morally bankrupt and certain to backfire on those doing it.

Beyond all that, there is no bigger favor that Trump opponents can do for him than attacking him with such lowly, shabby, obvious shams, recruiting large media outlets to lead the way. When it comes time to expose actual Trump corruption and criminality, who is going to believe the people and institutions who have demonstrated they are willing to endorse any assertions no matter how factually baseless, who deploy any journalistic tactic no matter how unreliable and removed from basic means of ensuring accuracy?

All of these toxic ingredients were on full display yesterday as the Deep State unleashed its tawdriest and most aggressive assault yet on Trump: vesting credibility in and then causing the public disclosure of a completely unvetted and unverified document, compiled by a paid, anonymous operative while he was working for both GOP and Democratic opponents of Trump, accusing Trump of a wide range of crimes, corrupt acts and salacious private conduct. The reaction to all of this illustrates that while the Trump presidency poses grave dangers, so, too, do those who are increasingly unhinged in their flailing, slapdash, and destructive attempts to undermine it.

You don’t find it just a little bit ironic that *Glen Greenwald* would have an objection to publishing government documents without verifying them first?

I mean, on the one hand, I agree with him here. On the other hand, it seems turnabout is fair play and maybe now some people on the right are getting a taste of their own medicine. Ugh. yes, of course the left should operate with a higher level of integrity than the Trumpian right but man, there is a part of me that is on board with lying. A terrible evil part to be sure. I guess I have something in common with the right after all.

That’s exactly what he wants. Please note always what Greenwald leaves out of his arguments. He’s in a pickle because he denied for ages tat the Russians leaked the DNC reports and that THAT whole thing was a CIA/Clinton alliance plot. And that the press did not have confirmation. Then they got confirmation. And the FBI, who clearly favored Trump, corroborated the CIA. And there were multiple other threads tying Trump and co to Russia. Did Greenwald who always calls for retractions from the press, issue a retraction? No he did not. So now he has doubled down.

Releasing information so that an investigation goes on past the inauguration is hardly the dirtiest pool the CIA plays. Greenwald will consistently ignore the plausible answer for the nefarious and complicated one.

I posted the Greenwald link earlier, and frankly thought, Mark, that you would see through it.
    Maybe you did.

Here is a more plausible explanation of why we need to be skeptical of the details of the dossier, while still keeping a close eye on the overall picture, and what connections and complications have been verified. (Also linking a second time for emphasis; this writier is more qualified to speak than Greenwald on what intel (US and Russian) do and do not do in common practice. http://observer.com/2017/01/donald-trump-press-conference-prague-michael-cohen/

The CIA and FBI are obligated to investigate corruption in our government and between our government representatives and foreign governments. Would Greenwald have that function eliminated? Should Congress be doing these investigations instead? Would they be less politically compromised? If not the FBI and CIA then who??? Is releasing the dossier surprising? What was the function of the act? To keep the issue from being buried in the new admin. To ensure the truth was revealed, not create fake news. Fake news outlets express certainty. The Intel community has done nothing of the sort. Greenwald is so patently full of shit, he makes my eyes water.

The FBI and CIA are a necessary check and balance on govt corruption, even their own. They are not perfect, but there is no substitute. Greenwald is just an asshole. (That’s my fine-toothed critical ass-essment

No, the GAO has their own staff. My brother is one of them (which is why I own a beautiful rug from Afghanistan where my brother spent two years auditing stuff at the embassy compound in Kabul). They audit government programs at the request of Congress. They are currently, at the request of Elizabeth Warren auditing the Trump transition. While they wouldn’t directly investigate Russia or the hacking, they could audit the CIA and FBI’s investigations to make sure they are doing their jobs. The GAO staff have the high security clearances to conduct such investigations and they are very thorough, but slow. They find corruption, waste, whatever.

From someone two friends removed on Facebook.

Christopher Steele, the retired British intelligence agent who was the source of the Buzzfeed story about the Golden Showers, turns out to be more than just a retired spy. He was an MI6 super star. Christopher Steele broke the Poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko story in 2006. He is a highly credible source.

Putin, the KGB, the Russian Government, and the infamous Russian Mob are all the same thing, it turns out. They have been grooming Trump for years. They’ve been the source of his capital, his connections and his financial flotation for years. He was an investment — perhaps one of many — but one that has paid off big time. They’re still playing their cards. They’re a long way from cashing their chips yet.

Our intelligence community knows all of the above too. But intelligence knowledge seldom involves the infamous smoking gun. They know by overwhelming inference but they cannot prove. Not yet anyway. And they don’t know quite how to handle it.

This is John Le Carre smoking a meth pipe. This is reality. This is the United States of Trumpistan. Right here. Right now. Time has come today…

The CIA as an agency has had and probably still has an historical anti-communist obsession with Russia dating back to its inception by John Foster Dulles in the late 40s. In the years since 911 the CIA has been criticized for living in the past — for continuing its obsession with Russia when Middle Eastern terrorists have taken the front of the stage. The years leading up to the USA’s invasion of Iraq were a difficult time for the agency. Bush neo-cons seized on the WMD issue as a justification for war. We know from books by former Bush cabinet members Paul O’Neil and Richard Clarke the Bush administration wanted war with Iraq BEFORE 911. After 911 they went into tizzy mode, and seized firmly on the WMD argument. The intelligence community never really signed on. The then-head of the CIA, George Tenet, who was a political appointee rather than a career spy, did sign on. He referred to the WMD argument as a ‘slam dunk.’

But intelligence rank and file never did. Valerie Plame’s husband tried to spill the beans over false information about uranium. His wife Valerie, who was a career spy, got roasted for it. The CIA has been in crisis ever since. They were forced to take the blame for Cheney’s incompetent obsession and they resented it big time. In that context, and in the context of their historical obsession with Russia, along comes Trump, who suddenly wants to flip the tables and make love with Putin. And Trump, they know, is puppet stringed by Russia. Blackmailed in fact. Holy mother of god.

They are in total crisis mode now and don’t know what to do. Christopher Steele has disappeared. I hope he’s in hiding, rather than…

Paul Manafort, President Trump’s ex-campaign chairman, is being investigated for possible money laundering, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited three people familiar with the matter.

The newspaper writes that the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office is launching the probe which now joins other state and federal probes connected to Manafort.

WSJ adds that the investigation is led by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in conjunction with a probe special counsel Robert Mueller is carrying out related to possible money laundering by Manafort.

Tuesday’s report comes in the wake of Mr. Trump’s reported interviewing of at least two people for U.S. attorney positions in New York — which includes the office which oversees the fresh Manafort probe.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has been investigating Manafort’s real estate holdings in New York.

Mueller, who is using a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C. to help with his investigation, is said to be particularly focused on Manafort’s lobbying efforts between 2012 and 2014 for a pro-Russian Ukrainaian political party, and his offshore banking and financial dealings.

Before Hillary Clinton signed off on the Uranium One deal and the Clinton Foundation received millions from Russia and Bill did his half million dollar speech for the Russian bank promoting Uranium One there was an FBI investigation into Russia bribing a Canadian company to illegally move uranium around the USA. Manafort worked with the Podesta Group since at least 2011 on behalf of Russian interests, and was at the Podesta Group offices “all the time, at least once a month,” peddling Russian influence through a shell group called the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine (ECMU).
Manafort brought a “parade” of Russian oligarchs to congress for meetings with members and their staffs, however, the Russia’s “central effort” was the Obama Administration.
In 2013, John Podesta recommended that Tony hire David Adams, Hillary Clinton’s chief adviser at the State Department, giving them a “direct liaison” between the group’s Russian clients and Hillary Clinton’s State Department.

In late 2013 or early 2014, Tony Podesta and a representative for the Clinton Foundation met to discuss how to help Uranium One – the Russian owned company that controls 20 percent of American Uranium Production – and whose board members gave over $100 million to the Clinton Foundation.

“Tony Podesta was basically part of the Clinton Foundation.”

Believing she would win the 2016 election, Russia considered the Podesta Group’s connection to Hillary highly valuable.

Podesta Group is a nebulous organization with no board oversight and all financial decisions made by Tony Podesta. Carlson’s source said payments and kickbacks could be hard for investigators to trace, describing it as a “highly secret treasure trove.” One employee’s only official job was to manage Tony Podesta’s art collection, which could be used to conceal financial transactions.

At least seven of the 15 lawyers Mueller has brought on to the special counsel team have donated to Democratic political candidates, five of them to Hillary Clinton — a fact that President Trump and his allies have eagerly highlighted. These critics also point to some of the lawyers’ history working with clients connected to the Clintons and Mueller’s long history with former FBI director James B. Comey as they question whether those assigned to the investigation can be impartial.

She didn’t pick Trump’s campaign manager, nor his national security adviser, who are both likely to be indicted. She didn’t attempt to obstruct justice by begging Comey to let Flynn go, and then fire him when he wouldn’t. It’s not Clinton who has to worry about Manafort or Flynn flipping on her. Stupid Hick,

HW is closer to the truth than you are on this issue. If Manafort and Flynn get indicted today, it is for things they did apart from any association with Trump. Both of these persons were employed by Trump for very short durations. Trump fired them both.

To date, there hasn’t been any evidence that Trump himself had illegal contact with any Russians, but vast amounts of evidence that the Clinton Foundation received millions of dollars in a quid pro quo relationship with Russia. You can ridicule others for pointing to the evidence of conspiracy revolving around the Clintons, but that won’t alter the facts. These facts didn’t result because the walls are closing in on Trump, but were widely published at the time and ignored by everybody in the Obama administration. The DNC paid the Russians for fake news about Trump, and then the FBI used the fake news to open investigations on a number of individuals. Obama politicized the IRS to attack political opponents and conservative groups. The multitude of crimes of the previous administration cannot be ignored.

Their constant daily attacks on Trump only fuels his victory for another 4 years. This has been their biggest mistake. And he will only do more that will be hard to be undone in his next 4 years. Facts are stubborn things. And unfortunately the Dems have screwed that all up as well. Trump is not a politician so quit trying to nail him to that cross. It will never work. Time to change the strategy before its too late. What do you do when you constantly hear the same people nagging on you about the same things over and over. You as I do tune it out. So CHANGE THE TUNE!! Talk about solving the issues that matter. Forget Trump and focus on helping the country. Or we get another 4 yrs of Trump. He wants the focus on him. He has played everyone.
