Here’s something for all of you who applauded Governor Rick Snyder last night during his “State of the State” speech, when he said the he’d be releasing his emails concerning the Flint water crisis, so that the people of Michigan could see what he knew, and when he knew it.
Well, this is apparently an example of what Snyder made public this evening. It comes from a reporter friend of mine who swears that it’s legit. Here’s the accompanying message from said reporter friend.
“Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said he would release emails he’s received about the #FlintWaterCrisis so people can understand just know how much he knew about it since the beginning of it all dating back nearly two years. Here’s one of the really, really important emails he released just a few minutes ago.”
And this, my friends, is how you earn a reputation for running the least accountable and transparent state government in the entire country.

It’s apparently legit. Other reporters are sharing it as well.
In the spirit of fairness, this was just the first email released. One would hope the others would not be 99% redacted as well.
What’s the uproar all about? The email header is intact and if you send this to CSI they can zoom in and sharp focus the hell out of this and get the answers.
OK, other emails are also being released. You can find all of them here. As of right now, there are 274 pages.
OK, here’s the explanation as to why this first email was redacted.
But, really, who starts with an intro like “In the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am releasing my emails related to Flint from 2014 and 2015,” and then goes right into a completely redacted document? It’s just stupid. They could have just left it out and included a note. This just looks bad.
Pure Transparency!
I thought for sure he was going to come clean. Any idea why he wouldn’t release 2013’s emails?
Without emails from his aids and the rest of the legislature, this is all just damage control. We either have all of the information because we are a free society with rules of law, or we don’
Agreed, Chris. Clearly we’re not seeing everything.
#OneToughRedactor
Gov should release all exec dept emails relating to #FlintWater + all text messages + any Slack etc messages
Where is 2013.
Where are other staff emails.
From a quick glance, it looks like they just searched for the word Flint and threw the results in. That is not comprehensive.
What was stolen in the “burglary?”
This is the lamest “look I’m super transparent” in order to hide opacity ever.
Sorry for not reading comments, I see mostly covered…
That redacted first page is when he filed an amicus brief in one of our cases, in support of the Emergency manager’s cuts to health care. They stil lost and that was an email that they circulated the day the decision came down.
Alec, as you saying that there’s no reason why that email should be redacted?
I wouldn’t go that far, I have no idea what Gadola was saying; the issue of Karegnondi came up in that case much later, in May or June. But he was counsel to the governor at the time, so it was presumably attorney-client communication.
Everyone wants a dictator.
