Jim Cherewick: rare photos of the artist in action

A few weeks ago, at an Ypsi porch show on Washington Street, I had the occasion to sit near Jim Cherewick and observe him working.

To my knowledge, what follow are the first photos ever taken of the reclusive Ypsilanti artist plying his trade in full daylight.

I’ve begun work on an article for Scientific American. Here’s how it begins… “With its gaping mouth, needle-sharp teeth, and slightly startled expression, the Jim Cherewick seems tailor-made for the depths of Ypsilanti’s often viscious late night music scene.”

It is interesting to see the Cherewick in action.

People will be motivated by his kind feeling and forward looking talents.

He’d wanted to play the electric rake, but Eugene Chadbourne had run off with it.
