Six Pack Portrait Project public showing this Friday with special guests Animal Magic, Craig Johnson and Patrick Elkins

This Friday, as part of Ypsilanti First Fridays, local photographer Chris Stranad will be sharing a collection of portraits that he’s taken over the past several months of people who have been my guests on The Saturday Six Pack. The show will begin at 6:00 PM, at 34 North Washington Street, and run until 9:00. It’s a small space, but Chris tells me that he’ll have quite a few portraits on display, like the ones below, for people to check out. And, as if that weren’t enough, we’ll also be joined by the likes of recently reunited Ypsi super-group Animal Magic (6:30), master entertainer Craig Johnson (7:00), and legendary puppeteer Patrick Elkins (7:30). I should add that this is one of my favorite things about doing the radio show… the fact that other people are finding creative ways to contribute. When Chris first found out about the Six Pack, he contacted me and asked if he could do anything to help. We talked for a while and came up with the idea of the Six Pack Portrait Project, which has turned out to be pretty awesome. He’s not always in town, and he doesn’t have the capacity to shoot every guest, but it’s really cool when it works out so that people, either right before or right after talking with me, can just pop across the street to his studio and have their portrait taken. It makes it feel like something really special is happening downtown.

I should add that, given the size of the venue, we’ll only be showing eight portraits. Our hope is to have another show at a later date, showing some of the others.
