After last night’s political rant, I’m kind of exhausted. And, as that’s the case, I’ve decided to take the day off from blogging, and just lay here on the couch, with the laptop balanced precariously atop my belly, watching some of my favorite sitcom parodies… In case you’d like to join me, I’ll be watching the following. It’s by no means an exhaustive list, as people have been doing parodies for years, but these are some of the most aggressively boundary pushing that I’ve come across over the past 30 years. If you have others to suggest, please let me know.
Action Family (1986)
I love Mallory (1994)
Heat Vision and Jack (1999)
That’s My Bush (2001)
Too Many Cooks (2014)

The gore in Too Many Cooks is a bit much for me, but I think the good outweighs the bad, and I think it’s interesting to see a modern example alongside all of the others. If you’re at all squeamish, though, you might want to skip it. And, if I were you, I wouldn’t watch it stoned.
That’s Seth Green as the young son in Action Family.
The Natural Born Killers piece was troubling, but it didn’t prepare me for Too Many Cooks. I feel as though David Lynch took my brain out of my head and kicked it through a television set.

Much herb will be consumed tonight as these shows are watched simultaneously.
I’d love to see Action Family come back on Netflix.
Did you watch Too Many Cooks? I want to discuss it with someone… I’ll be online for the next half hour if you’re up for it.
OK, don’t say I never tried to talk with you.
It looks like I missed my opportunity to speak with you real time. So close, I was. I did want to let you know, however, that the creators of Too Many Cooks are taking questions on Reddit right now. When asked if Lynch was an influence, they responded by saying, “I love him so much it has to be an influence. And Andy Kaufmann. Charlie Kaufman. Beyond the Black Rainbow. And of course Small Wonder.”

You should also watch David Lynch’s Rabbits.

I just learned that Too Many Cooks was made in Atlanta. (I’d thought the Georgia slide at the end was a joke, but apparently it wasn’t.) Apparently things have gotten quite a bit more interesting in Atlanta since I moved away.
This is what bothers me about the I Love Mallory thing…that disturbed me more than the gratuitous violence in the movie. Maybe because I have known people who were molested/raped but don’t know anyone who has been caught in a violent carnage at a prison? I don’t know.
Then there are Tommy Wiseau’s masterpieces:

See the number on the apartment is 420? See what he did there? No one’s gonna tell Tommy Wiseau he can’t smoke him some weed.
