Confession Bear weighs in the Rose Bowl

RoseBowl

[At the Quack Media holiday party last night, I became convinced, after a long conversation with Ben from Damn Arbor, that my posts, on average, are too damn long. This is my first attempt to right the ship. I hope it meets with your approval… Also, I don’t really want to see East Lansing burn. Life is precious, as are mattresses and couches. It just occurred to me, as I was driving home last night, that there are probably some people out there rooting for the Spartans to win just because they want to see what happens afterward in East Lansing. For what it’s worth, I can see the appeal of just letting go and becoming a part of a mob. It’s got to be liberating in a way. But I don’t think that I could ever do it. I don’t think, even with the aid of alcohol, I could ever turn off that little part of my brain that would be saying, “Might there not be a better way to celebrate the achievements of my classmates than setting my own mattress on fire, or throwing my television set out the window, where it might land on my friend’s head?” I know it’s a bit of an oversimplification, but it’s like celebrating a promotion at work by going outside and shooting out the windows of your own car. It just doesn’t make sense.]

No. I know Al. I met him once at an event and he asked me over. To be honest, I don’t know much about the company, other than the fact that they distribute Found magazine. They’ve got a cool office, though, and they were nice to me.

If not for football, young people would be setting fires in Lansing instead. Sports is the best thing to ever happen for our ruling class.

Really? I don’t think they are too long. I like them. I like Damn Arbor as well. I admire anyone who can keep up a blog with any regularity :)

You need to get them down below 50 words, like Ben.

If you read Eric Fromm’s ‘Sane Society’ you’ll get a better understanding of the motivations underlying this sort of behavior.

Personally, I’d like to see the forestry service treat these fires as they do wildfires, and dispatch tanker aircraft filled with water to make unrelenting bombing runs on the bonfire sites. The cost can be added to tuition.

So far it’s just a few couch fires. Luckily a lot of the students are still out of town for the holidays.
