Obviously written prior to last night’s grand slam. What a crushing defeat.

All my teams did not win, and even though I wasn’t expecting a better life, I know I would have been superficially happier.

I would argue that a World Series win would be a much needed morale booster for Detroit

Yes, all of the people that make their living on vending, parking, etc at sporting events would agree with you Peter.

But a puppet show. Now that is a life altering event!

Also, can you tag this one as “Mark the troll?”

I’m reminded of the final scene from “Sullivan’s Travels” where the protagonist shares his epiphany about comedy. “There’s a lot to be said for making people laugh,” he says. “Did you know that’s all some people have? It isn’t much, but it’s better than nothing in this cockeyed caravan.”

    Here’s the scene.

Sports, like comedy, fills a definite need in society, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Still, though, when the game’s over, you’re left in the exact same situation you were when it started.

I don’t think this is an instance of Mark trolling, Dan. Judging from Facebook, he likes the Lions and Tigers. As I read this he’s merely saying that he invested a lot of emotion, like the rest of us, and afterward realized that he still had to deal with the problems he had before the games started.

I like Sports as much as the next guy.

I don’t expect that anyone would ever agree with me.

On the contrary, I am of the opinion that my existence and my posts on Mark’s site are every bit as useless as sports.

As for Mark “trolling,” that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense since he started the thread. “Trolls” usually try to divert the conversation somewhere else with the aim of killing it entirely. One cannot kill or change the direction of the thread by starting one, since it did not exist previously.

I’m sorry that you don’t like puppet shows. Some people do. Some people also like sports (like Mark). I personally do not. Many people like many things.

Clearly you do not like this site. It puzzles me why you would take up time in your day to read it, when you might be doing something more enjoyable or productive.

I know that I’m stupid, but I’m a bit confused by this one, more so than usual.

You don’t have to be stupid to be confused by Dan. What happens on this site is a microcosm of what happens in DC, with the Republicans attacking Obama even when he’s saying things that they’ve previously said. He’s black, so he’s wrong. In this instance, Dan thinks Mark is a “hipster”, so everything he says is dumb. Dan apparently doesn’t know that that hipsters are young, skinny, single, unemployed, and care about their appearances.

the hipster is defined by many things, and because all hipsters deny that they are hipsters, its hard to get a consensus opinion.

Some people base their definition on clothing, etc. IMO, hipsters are hypocritical delusional people of all ages and sizes. People that claim to hate conformity, but go out of their way to conform to the hipster lifestyle. People that claim to hate consumption and consumerism, but all have smartphones and laptops.

And generally, people that think being weird is a profession.

IMO, the Shadow Art Fair is the epitome of hipsterdom. Creating a counter culture event in opposition to the main stream AA art fair, where people try to out-weird each other with nonsensical booths and shit, is exactly what a hipster is to me.

Dan, are you a dog-fucking granny-killer? I’m going to guess you’ll say your not, which proves to me that you are. Because all dog-fucking granny-killers deny it.

    Dan,

Have you thought about starting an anti-hipster blog? I think it might be helpful.
