CONTEXT: In case you missed it in the news, Texas Senator Ted Cruz raised fears that the shutdown of the federal government that he helped launch could potentially lead to an attack on the United States of America… Sadly, he’s right. As a result of the shutdown that he orchestrated, 70% of the intelligence community’s civilian work force has been suspended, putting us at grater risk.
[I know I left the hat off, but did I do a pretty good job with the “scumbag” meme otherwise?]

Once again, this makes me wonder if what we’re seeing unfold is technically treason. Under Article III, Section 3, of the Constitution, wouldn’t a subversive act that weakens the power of the United States to attack or resist its enemies, constitute the giving of “Aid and Comfort”?
We should shove Texas out of the lifeboat that is the United States. It’s the only way the rest of us will survive.

But it’s the President’s fault for not giving them what they want.
They don’t stop terror attacks when they’re all on the job, so what difference does it make?

Yes, better with the hat. Thanks, C.
IS THIS STILL GOING ON?!!!!
Yes, Pete. One whole week with essentially no EPA, no CDC, etc. Tea Party paradise.
I’ve yet to confirm it, Pete, but there may be signs that the Republicans are cracking. Word is that the Chamber of Commerce may be aligning against the Tea Party to bring this to an end. If so, that’s pretty huge.
No, Obama will cave, the Republicans will call a victory and win the Senate, House and then the executive and establish a Libertarian, White, Christian paradise in the US.
Glad to see the antibiotics are working Peter. You’re finally thinking clear again.
If it happens, I will likely emigrate and might even considering drop my citizenship if I can get one somewhere else. While I can’t say that any other government on the planet is without its own major problems, being a foreigner allows one to not have to get invested in it.
Tea Party Republicans don’t really do my field many favors, anyway. For the time being, he States is still a great place for science, but socially, it’s a pretty backward and stupid place, and that will eventually have massive implications for research. Again, so far, we haven’t experience a doomsday.
Between guns, bullshit Christianity, the pathetic resistance to any type of health care reform and the resistance to science, I don’t really see the point in living here.
The shutdown is almost sealing the deal for me.
According to Cruz yesterday, he never said that the Republicans would “win” this fight.

Three Cruz mistresses have been identified.
