Remember how, a few weeks ago, I told you that some friends and I were exploring ways to help densely-bearded, puppet-making local troubadour Patrick Elkins pay the almost $10,000 in medical bills that he’d amassed over the past year as a result of his ongoing battle with Deep Vein Thrombosis? Well, as of today, we’ve already raised $1,325 from our online fundraising campaign, and we’re hoping to more than double that by Friday night, when we hold our big fundraising party – Legfest – featuring the likes of Moonhairy, Laserbeams of Boredom, Minus 9, Glass Clue, Shells & Fred Thomas, Thom Elliott and Izzy Johnson.

Tickets for the big show are just $10 each, and, as of this evening, they can be purchased at Beezy’s, Encore Records and Woodruff’s.

So, if you love Pat, and appreciate all that he’s done for the community over the past several years, please go out and buy a ticket or two. Not only will the music be great, but I’m told that a number of local artists have been donating inspired pieces for a live auction, many of which are leg-inspired, in keeping with the “Save Pat’s Leg” theme of the event. (Deep Vein Thrombosis creates painful blood clots in the legs, which, if left untreated can be life threatening.)

And, since we last spoke, we have two new developments on the fundraising front.

First, the folks at Woodruff’s have informed us that they’ll be donating 20% of their bar sales on Friday night, during Legfest, to paying down Patrick’s debt.

And, second, if you eat or drink at Sidetrack between now and close-of-business on Thursday, they’ll turn around and contribute 20% of your bill to the Legfest fund… All you have to do is hand your server a copy of the following image.

So there are lots of ways to join the rest of this beautiful community of ours and contribute toward a good cause… You can eat and drink. You can listen to some awesome bands. You can buy some art. Or you can just break out your credit card and give online.

Or, like me, you can do all of the above… Patrick’s worth it.
