I’m spending this evening on the doorstep of Patrick Elkins, practicing for tomorrow night’s reading at Arbor Brewing as part of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. I don’t want to give too much away, but, as it’s currently planned, it’ll involve at least one little bit of historic reenactment in which I’m to channel a 23 year old Lou Reed. Wish me luck…
It’ll never get here in time, but, if you want to follow along in the book I’ll be reading from, Joe Harvard’s contribution to the 33 1/3 series on The Velvet Underground & Nico, you can find it here.

Perfect opportunity to flog my dumb song one more time, because you might find it funny:

I haven’t seen a book report poster that inspired since third grade.
How exactly does one channel Lou Reed?
It’s starts with an obnoxious kind of swagger.
Lou’s one if those guys that I’d love to hate but I just can’t. He’s got too much talent. Or at least he did.
Pat’s rockin’ the Flashdance look again I see. I hope he’s alright.
lou reed recently said that he stays creative by masturbating every day.
now start getting into character.

He also had electric shock therapy in high school to turn him straight. So, maybe you could masturbate while thinking about men, and, at the point of climax, stick your finger in an outlet.
It went really well… So well, in fact, that they asked me if I’d consider doing it again next year.
I’m really glad it went well Mark and sorry I didn’t go DON’T HATE ON ME but I really can’t stand Lou Reed. I’m sorry. Something about him creeps me out for reasons I don’t quite understand…perhaps he ran me over in a past life? At any rate, glad it turned out well :)
Yeah, I told friends to stay away, thinking that my performance would suck… And then I found myself standing in front of everyone, feeling sad that none of my friends showed up to hear me.
It makes no sense.
And, yes, Pat is having problems with his legs again. I don’t know that I believe in the power of prayer, but I don’t see how it would hurt if those of you out there who know Pat, or like his work, would send some positive thoughts in his direction. He’s a great man, and we need to keep him around.
