yeah. “start a band.” that would solve everything. I’m sure that hipster philosophy is much more beneficial than the story getting out to the world of these three women, how they were kidnapped, how they were kept quiet, and how they managed to stay sane enough to escape after a decade of likely horrendous abuse. Im sure no one could use that information.
sure. they should be singing fucking christmas carols together or traveling in a run down RV to blue grass pot head fests, singing folk songs to the local stoners about how they were tortured, man, but they survived, man. thats a much happier ending!
you’re just pissed it wasnt a group of white, racist, gun toting lunatics keeping them captive. that would have really made your day
Sorry this story couldn’t have been more tragic for you. You must be really disappointed they weren’t murdered. Maybe next time.
I think you guys are missing the point. I think Mark is objecting to the part about this being portrayed as a “happy ending”. A happy ending, he says, would have been if they’d been found ten years later, living together happily somewhere, playing in a band. This is tragic. News reports are coming out today that these women had been spotted crawling around all all fours, being led by leashes around the backyard of the home. This is not a happy story. This is torture. He wasn’t saying that it should have been worse. He’s saying the opposite.
God, your reading comprehension skills are atrocious, Dan and Dennis. Mark said nothing of the kind. He said that this was “absolutely horrible”. And he wasn’t saying that they should now start a band. Jesus Christ. He said that it would have been an “happy ending” if it had been discovered that they’d run away together as young adults to do something like start a band. What we’re seeing unfold now in Cleveland, though, is not a “happy ending”.
Like Flask (below), Mark’s joy is tempered, as I read it. Mine too. Very glad for the young women’s determination to survive and get free and also for those neighbors who helped them.
“No one said that it wasn’t good news. I just object to the idea of this being a “happy ending”. These women have lived through hell. Yes, it’s good that they’re free, but I refuse to buy the narrative that things are OK now.” -Mark Maynard
What Mark said to friends on Facebook after catching some flack for a similar comment.
I know people are really captivated by Charles Ramsey, the man who helped the women escape, but here’s my favorite thing to come out of all of this.

I love the idea that you thought Mark was arguing that the women involved should form a band. That’s the most stupid misreading of a post on this site ever. You win.
If they were forced to be in a band by their captors, they wouldn’t be the first girls to suffer that fate.
My next band will be called Hilarious Black Neighbor. I’m working on the press release now.

FAKE,,,
Nothing new, BS stories by actors and a couple big Corporations got free adverstising.
Insulting.
I like the idea of Mark traveling the country like the members of the Westborough Baptist Church, holding up obnoxious signs telling survivors of tragedies to “just get over it and form a band”.
Robert, are you saying, just based upon the fact that Charles Ramsey noted McDonalds when he was interviewed by the press,, that this whole thing was an elaborate ad campaign that started ten years ago with the fake kidnapping of these young women? Or are you suggesting that McDonalds had them kidnapped?
It’s all scripted Fake BS. Fake events, by actors, sometimes years ago and then released.
You’d have to ask the The Powers To Be when and WHY? I don’t have that answer.
But, it’s fake. Proven by Scientific Biometrics.
Same actors are being used over and over from the same families, in all these fake events.
Do some research and don’t believe anything you see on these BS Media Stations.
Good Luck.
See ya next BS event.
So, ten years ago, McDonalds faked the kidnapping of three girls with the intention of waiting a decade and then having their rescuer make an off-hand comment about how good their hamburgers are?
scientific biometrics… hahahah
K2, you’re really that narrow and stupid?
It’s all fake, morons.
Good luck.
Pardon me, It’s all Fake Moron.
Good luck.
It’s so sad that you people believe this is real.
