There was a lot to like about this year’s Totally Awesome Fest. Among my favorite things was the set by Rebel Kind at dusk on Friday, on the banks of the Huron River. There was just something really beautiful about the way the swaying trees and the warm glow of the lamp worked in concert with the members of the band.
Here’s a little video of those band members – Autumn Wetli, Shelley Salant, Jules Nehring and Amber Fellows – making beautiful music in what appears to be a cozy, wall-less living room in the middle of a darkening forrest.
It struck me as a kind of K Records – David Lynch mash-up, and what could be better than that?

A great way to start the morning. Thanks.
Autumn is also great in Bad Indians.
Mark Maynard dot com provides important information.
And what, in this particular instance, would that important information be, Peter? That Rebel Kind played next to a lamp?
And Jim’s attention to detail with regard to both the lamp and Shelley’s beard is incredible.
I love the layout on Mark Maynard dot com.
It is like a lamp, but not as portable.
Pete’s just mad because he wasn’t asked to perform “Mosquito”, his rock opera about bed nets and the fight against Malaria in the Congo.
Does Pete play his guitar with a flyswatter?
Next time.
I will use the Mark Maynard dot com banner as a backdrop and release live mosquitoes into the crowd.
The Mosquitos were an awesome band.
thanks mark!!
Edward, what’s your last name, if I may?
Why, is this like a Craigslist “missed connections” kind of thing? Or do I owe you money? Or did we maybe have a kid together at Totally Awesome Fest last year? If it’s the first, my last name if Hill. If it’s either of the latter two, it’s Smith.
