I wanted to thank all of you who voted for me in the competition to win a scholarship to this summer’s Netroots Nation convention in Rhode Island. Thanks to your support (and the fact that I have a somewhat compelling blog), I’ve managed to secure one of the slots. I found out a couple of days ago, but I wanted to wait a bit before telling you, just in case it fell through, or, worse yet, I found out that someone had just been pulling my leg. Well, we had the big conference call with the Executive Director of Democracy for America last night, and, as everything seems legit, I thought that I’d go ahead and mention it. I seriously appreciate your support, and I hope to come back from Rhode Island with renewed enthusiasm for the work we have before us, and new ideas as to how, through this blog, I might be able to better contribute toward the positive change we so desperately need in Michigan. So, stay tuned.
As for the accompanying image, it was taken last night, at the Corner Brewery. I was sitting next to my friend Eric, drinking beer, wearing headphones, listening-in on the Democracy for America conference call, along with all of the other scholarship winners, and furiously taking notes. This quickly scrawled letter was my attempt to convey to him that I wasn’t just ignoring him, and listening, as I’m known to do, to audio of Lyndon Johnson ordering pants.
Speaking of that Lyndon Johnson recording, I know I’ve got a lot of projects in the pipeline right now, but, one of these days, I’d like to substitute my own voice for that of Joe Haggar. For some reason, I think that would be incredibly satisfying. (And, yes, now that I’ve been accepted to attend the conference, I can start writing about nonsense like this again.)
Oh, and if you’re a blogger, or an online Progressive activist, who would like to join me at the Netroots Nation conference, there’s still time to apply for a scholarship. The third, and final round is open until May 2nd. You just need to fill out a form, which can be found here… Good luck.

First I would like to say that I LOVED the header I got tonight. Daaaamn. Second? That’s so great. Congratulations!
Congrats! I don’t back many winning horses, so this is nice.
RI is very close to Boston, FYI. Great zoo there, too.
Best of luck at your jihadi summer camp.
I’ve spent my entire adult life successfully keeping my handwriting away from public display. Years of therapy dealing with handwriting-analysis phobia. Now they know. My god, they know! Jesus Christ and motherfucker shit shit shit. Perfect. You’ve fucked it up. It’s at least a two-year backslide. Thanks, Mark.
I’m not suggesting that this is the case, but it would be interesting if, beneath it all, you were really a conservative operative, and the past ten years has just been about laying the groundwork that would get you to this point, where you could do something heinous on behalf of your conservative handlers. Maybe slipping a whoopee cushion under Bernie Sanders as he sits down at a banquet. Maybe yelling something about Obama’s birth certificate during a panel on immigration reform. Maybe a pie in the face of Hillary Clinton. And, the weird thing is, you may not even be aware of it. You could be a Manchurian Candidate.

I’m so happy you won the scholarship. Hope to read some great posts from the convention.
Hope you have a wonderful time hob nobbing with the commies.
I’m totally supportive. The people who got scholarships look like an impressive bunch, and I’m sure that good work will be done, and lasting friendships will be made. I am, however, a bit concerned by the prominence of inside-the-beltway groups like MoveOn. While I like Daily Kos, and Democracy for America, I think that some of these other groups, like MoveOn, do more to serve the status quo than agitate for change. All of the groups are on the continuum, but the ones closer to the Democratic party concern me. Hopefully they won’t dominate the agenda.
Congrats Mark. I’m glad you won.
I think the real value of your attending won’t be for what you gain but what you can give. There’s a lot of young bloggers who will be there.
It can be assumed that attending an event like this is an opportunity to learn. I’m guessing you’ll get some insights. But, I want to send you off as a mentor. Give as good as you get.
Don’t look to just gather info. Shape and sharpen voices. And pack a sweater.
