I shirked my parenting responsibilities last night and snuck across the river to Woodruff’s, to attended the highly anticipated kickoff of Mittenfest VI. My intention was to shoot lots of video, that I could then post here, in hopes of enticing more of you to attend over the coming days (Mittenfest continues through New Year’s Eve), but, unfortunately, most of the stuff that I shot doesn’t have good sound. Here are a few clips, though, of Matt Jones and the Reconstruction, that both sound pretty good, and kind of capture the good-spirited vibe of this annual fundraiser for the incredible youth writing non-profit, 826 Michigan.
The worst thing is, I really wanted for my videos of the band Stepdad to work out, as I’d love to introduce you to their work, if you haven’t already had the pleasure of seeing them perform, but my recordings just don’t do them justice. Here, though, if you’re interested in learning more, is a link that will take you to a video of Nathan K performing a stripped down cover of their song My Leather, My Fur, My Nails.
An entire lineup of bands performing at Mittenfest this year can be found here.
Tickets can be purchased at the door, while supplies last, for $10 per night.
update: The website Mostly Midwest has tracks by 21 of the bands on the Mittenfest VI bill that can be downloaded free of charge here.

It’s cool living in a town that has the Shadow Art Fair in the summer and Mittenfest in the winter.

There’s a rumor that Stepdad’s “My Leather, My Fur, My Nails” plays during Columbus Blue Jackets games.
No footage of Patrick Elkins doing something pointless and moronic in a desperate bid to draw attention to himself? I would have shot some last week at the swap meet if my camera could have gotten past all the back hair spilling out of his sundress as he danced in front of the stage, begging for acknowledgment. A sad and true story.
What did Pat do to you, Bob? Did you catch him fucking your mom or something? For the past few years, every time local music is mentioned on this site, you take the opportunity to shit on the guy. I can understand if his music isn’t to your liking, but I don’t get the anger. Where does that come from? Are you just angry because no one comes out to see your band play?
Kadence, who was also on the bill the first night of Mittenfest, is likewise deserving of mention. Socially conscious rap has been missing form the American popular music landscape for far too long.

I flew in from New Zealand for Muttenfest expressly for the purposes of attending Muttenfest, and was incredibly disappointed.
@Eel: What people may fail to realize is that Bob actually *is* Patrick! This has to be true, as they say an artist’s worst critic is themselves.
Rainbow Vomit Family Band ruled, but don’t eat the cake!
Mittenfesr VI raised $21,290 for 826Michigan!
I thought Bob was Leland Palmer?
Bob,
I have bad news for you. Patrick Elkins is multiplying!
