Introducing Arlo Lao Maynard

This is Arlo. He wasn’t due until the 10th, but he decided to join us early this morning. The midwives showed up at the house at 1:03 AM, and he was born at 1:12 AM. I’ll share more tomorrow, but I wanted you all to know that both mother and son are doing great.

[note: He wasn’t named for Arlo Guthery, or any other Arlo known to man. He is his own person.]

I just looked at the times. Linette should win a prize for speed birthing. She delivered Clementine pretty quickly, but wow!

WOW what great news! I didn’t realize Linette was “on the nest,” to make a seasonal reference. Now there are two infant Arlos in Ypsilanti. The other lives at the split of N & S Congress. I think it’s just more evidence of how great Ypsi is. (We also have a JunA and a JunO in our neighborhood–always pronounced with second-syllable emphasis to distinguish them.)

Congrats! Now hurry up and go buy that boy some GI Joe dolls, cammo onesies, and some toy guns before they all sell out at Toys R Us.

All joking aside, welcome to the world Arlo. 8 minutes? That’s not even enough time to boil water! Hope mommy is doing well. Clementine will hava a blast with a little bro.

Arlo is a pretty good name, although I might have gone with an alternate spelling to make it a bit more evocative, personalized and refined: Arlowe, Arlough, Ahrloe, or, better yet, Arleau.

(I have some suggestions for a re-conceptualization of “Maynard,” too, if you’re interested.)

He looks great. Very glad he’s here, and you’re all healthy.
