The following video, which I just found out about through my friend Anjanette, was apparently created by a student team at Washtenaw Community College, for a documentary film class. It’s entitled, “The Naming of Ypsilanti.” I thought that you might find it of interest.

So, our city was named by a brilliant drunken judge who bathed in the rain?
Good ol’ Slippery Shanty. Proud to call it my home.
It’s Greek bitch!
Love the name spellings at the end. I was laughing out loud. Hipsilanti was in there.
WCC has a real good documentary film class. It’s taught by a guy who has Emmys for work done for PBS. The film program in general creates lots of great pieces.
Quirk and Rebellion.
I am not surprised!
Did James Mann say that the Woodruff’s Grove settlement is now under Ford Lake? I wasn’t aware of that.
Does Ken Burns get paid every time someone pans across a photo like that?
Neat.
Watching Laughing.
I’d love to pitch some local documentary ideas to this class. How would I go about doing that?
1) People who fish and eat the giant carp out of the Huron River. I’d love to know more about them, where they live, and what their circumstances are.
2) What really happened to the Man with No Face.
3) Stories of Iggy Pop growing up in Ypsi.
