Conspiracy theories take root around the Penn State pedophilia case

As it’s been a while since we’ve had a good conspiracy theory thread here on the site, and as I haven’t yet opined on the whole Penn State pedophilia scandal, I thought that I’d move the following clip up to the front page. It comes from the website of the New England Sports Network, and it was just left in an old thread by our friend Robert, an Ann Arbor-based amateur sleuth.

…When an investigation first started in 2005 over allegations that Jerry Sandusky was engaging in sexual acts with young boys, district attorney Ray Gricar was working on getting to the bottom of things, disregarding Sandusky’s position at Penn State and in the community. Unfortunately in April of that same year, Gricar went missing.

A few months later, his daughter, Lara, petitioned to declare her father dead so that the family could have closure, according to The New York Times. But the Sandusky case was left wide open, with much of the evidence and momentum dying with Gricar.

Gricar’s disappearance has been a mystery ever since that April day in 2005. His car was found in a parking lot 50 miles from his home, with his laptop, wallet and keys missing. Investigators later revealed an Internet search on Gricar’s home computer that read: “how to wreck a hard drive.” Foul play is still suspected because the former district attorney’s body still has not been found.

Anthony De Boef, assistant district attorney while Gricar was serving, explained how adament Gricar was when dealing with a case as serious as the Sandusky accusations.

“No one got a bye with Ray. He didn’t care who you were, he had a job to do”…

And, as if that wasn’t weird enough, there’s also a rumor making the rounds today that accused pedophile Jerry Sandusky, wasn’t just raping the young at-risk boys that he’d attracted to his foundation, but also offering these boys to wealthy Penn State donors. I can’t imagine that it’s true, but, given the way things are unfolding, who knows? Yesterday at this time, if you’d told me that Penn State’s students were going to take to the streets, flipping cars and smashing windows, out of anger that a man who enabled the predatory activities of a pedophile was fired, I wouldn’t have believed you… If it does happen to be true about the pedophile prostitution ring, I suspect we’ll know soon enough by the uptick in suicides across Pennsylvania.

I’m just hoping that the Nebraska fans show a little decorum this weekend, and don’t take the opportunity to rub it in the faces of Penn State’s fans that their university is collapsing under the weight of these compounding lies and serious crimes against children. While I suspect we’ll see our share of Pedobears decked out in Penn State gear at the game, one hopes that’s where it stops. It’s bad enough that the victims have to live though this without the whole thing turning into a sick, ugly joke.

There is a lot more too the story coming to light by the hour. Apparently an earlier investigation was mysteriously dropped as well.

The amazing thing to me is how seriously we here in Ann Arbor took the news that Rich Rod had our football players working out 20 minutes more than they should have been according to NCAA rules. Compared to this, it seems like nothing.

People were definitely paid off along the way. Take for instance the spectacular career of Mike McQueary, who went from being a lowly grad assistant in 2002, when he walked in on Sandusky raping a child, to an assistant coach. It’s amazing what one can accomplish when he keeps his mouth shut, isn’t it?

Jesus Mark, this story is sordid enough without front paging bogus conspiracy tales. Gricar investigated this in 1998 (not 2005) and failed to find enough evidence to prosecute. The lawyer’s nephew Tony Gricar told The Patriot-News: ‘People ask why Ray did not prosecute, and I have no problem saying, because he clearly felt he didn’t have a case for a ”successful” prosecution. ‘One thing I can say is that Ray was beholden to no one, was not a politician.’
He disappeared 7 years later. Depression and bi-polar ran in the family.
    __
In May 1996, Roy J. Gricar — Ray Gricar’s brother disappeared in Dayton, Ohio. His car was found abandoned across the street from the office where his son worked. A search of the area was conducted, but authorities found no trace of Roy Gricar.

“He was missing for a few days before his body turned up in the [Great Miami] River,” Tony Gricar said. “He was a mile down the river. His body found one morning by joggers on a bike path that runs by there.”

The coroner later ruled Roy Gricar’s death a suicide by drowning. He reportedly had been fired from his job as a private contractor at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in the days leading up to his death and had suffered from bipolar disorder.

    From the Daily Mail:

The district attorney who tried and failed to prosecute Jerry Sandusky in 1998 after reports of sexual abuse emerged, has been missing since 2005 and was declared legally dead in July.

Ray Gricar disappeared on April 15 six years ago after telling his girlfriend he was going for a drive.

His body was never found, only his abandoned car and his laptop which had been tossed in the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania without its hard drive.

In 1998, Gricar had attempted to bring a case against Penn State former football defence coordinator Jerry Sandusky on child rape charges.

I wasn’t saying that I necessarily believed these theories to be true, Dragon. I just found it interesting that these were the kinds of things that were swirling around the internet. And, maybe you’re right. Maybe I shouldn’t perpetuate them. It’s what I was thinking about tonight, though. Like I said, I doubt that either is true, but this is such a weird case, it kind of lends itself to this kind of speculation. Clearly people knew that bad things involving children were taking place. If not, they wouldn’t have forced Sandusky out in the first place… So, yeah, maybe I feel bad for joining in on the speculation of just how deep this thing goes, but I think the University brought it on themselves by acting in such a way as to encourage such thoughts.

No it doesn’t. Gricar’s family should be immune to this scandal.

Yes! Arrest, jail or fire everyone involved.

there is such a thing as “accomplices after the fact”. Ask your self why they fired Joe P. AND the Pres. of the University. The knowledge of Sandusky and his criminality were clearly known to his bosses in the University, they fired him from his coaching job, but continued to allow him to operate his camps for young boys–they (University administrators and Joe P ) also probably are guilty of obstruction of justice. There is a reason why Joe P is lawyering up with a criminal defense attorney. This will ultimately look a lot like the Catholic church crimes, and will cost the U of P and the good people of Penn. tonnes of money in settling civil litigation, as well as several folks going to jail for extended periods of their life. As Edward pointed out, they clearly bought off Mike McQueary who witnessed one of Sandusky’s locker room rapes.

I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, up to a point. There were allegations and a formal inquiry in the late 90’s. When the District Attorney chose not to file charges, Penn State, I’m assuming, felt that there wasn’t much that they could do. They knew the guy was slimy, but the investigation didn’t turn up evidence. So, they made him a deal. They told him that if he dropped out of the program, they’d still treat him like one of the family. I can buy that. (They should have pressured him to give up the foundation too, but they didn’t. It’s reprehensible, but probably not illegal.) Of course, you could also look at it the other way and say that Penn State pressured the DA to drop it.

But, then, everything gets weird in 2002, when Mike McQueary walked in and caught Sandusky in the act. And that, to me, is where the big questions still are. Just how much did McQueary see, and what did he convey to his superiors? If he told them that Sandusky was showing with a kid, that’s one thing. If he said that Sandusky was raping a child, that’s another. That, in my opinion, should bring the university down.

Yeah, Mark. Stop spreading all this silly speculation. You’re not logical like dragon. The only explanation for Ray Gricar’s disappearance is that he is like his brother. Stop acting like their might be a more likely reason for the circumstances of his demise being so similar to that of his brother earlier.

If these allegations are true, everyone involved who knew (or strongly suspected) what was going on, but did not alert the proper authorities, should be fired and/or prosecuted. Likewise, the victims (and their families) who did come forward should be recognized for their bravery in confronting what must have been a very intimidating scenario: Having the courage to make very serious, life-altering allegations against prominent individuals (and a football program) that represent local legends in the eyes of many of their neighbors.

That being said: I can’t help noticing that Sandusky was, by all accounts a married, “straight,” family man, with adopted children of his own, etc. — and the irony of that fact in light of a certain *other* thread that has festered on this blog for at least a couple of weeks.

Obviously, my point is not to cast all straight, married men as potential threats to children … but rather, to point out how ludicrous (and counter-productive) it is to focus on one particular group, this way.

Those, like some posters on this blog, who continue to try to demonize all gay men as being dangerous to vulnerable children are not only painting millions of innocent individuals as potential child predators — they are also distracting from the more important point: While most are indeed men — and thankfully they are few in number — a child predator potentially could be anyone, regardless of gender, race, age, marital status, or sexual orientation.

Rather than focusing on particular “groups” of individuals as threats, we should instead focus on making sure that kids have the skills and self-confidence to stand up to potential abusers; along with educating everyone about how important it is to speak up if they strongly suspect that any child is being endangered.

There is nothing at all shocking about this rich scum keeping the most heinous crimes under wraps, they play football well and that is the most important thing in our civilization. There is nothing more important in the US then the consumption of brutal “entertainment”, a “game” that makes its players cognitively impaired because the sounds of the helmets crushing together is too satisfying to the consumers to change. If we have to let this “legend” rape boys to win some games, what’s the big deal? He keeps the consumers’ morbidly obese asses in the stadium sucking down fried flesh and booze by the cubic tonnage. These are our society’s destitute priorities.

Gricar could have been following up on new leads to the Sandusky scandal when he ` mysteriously` disappeared…..Kind of strange that his computer was found and the hard drive had been removed and damaged….someone went to great lengths to erase some kind of information.

The 2002 incident that was witnessed by the coaching assistant was NEVER even reported to the D.A.`s office….maybe Griscar started to find out more info on that.

Also, the name Wendell Courtney is linked to ALL 3 situations…He was a legal consultant to Penn State on the 1998 case and could have possibly pressured Griscar to not press charges. Courtney would also have know about the 2002 incident. He also is legal consel to the Second Mile Foundation…Sandusky was the Founder of this organization, so Courtney would have known him from his association there as well.

Yep, looks like a possible organized crime pedophilia ring to me.

Magisterial District Judge Leslie Dutchcot released Sandusky on $100,000 unsecured bail, despite a push for larger bail by prosecutors.

In response to a request from the Centre County Court of Common Pleas, Judge Dutchcot will be replaced on the case by Senior Westmoreland County Magisterial District Judge Robert E. Scott (S.J.D. University of Michigan).

It surprised me to see Sandusky’s attorney allowed him to do a radio interview. That’s a strange thing to do in a case like this. Of course, it is also pretty strange that his attorney is a pedophile himself, having impregnated a 16 year old back in 1997 when he was 49.

I won’t be surprised if Sandusky is found dead from an “apparent” suicide before his preliminary hearing on December 7th.

    Report: Sandusky charity files missing

    http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/Key-records-from-Jerry-Sandusky-charity-missing-in-Penn-State-sexual-abuse-case-111711

Important records from the charity founded by former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky are missing and may have been stolen, The New York Times reported.

Investigators in the Penn State sexual abuse case are worried that the missing files from the Second Mile may hinder them from determining if Sandusky used charity resources, such as expense accounts, travel and gifts, to recruit new victims or possibly pay them to remain silent, according to the newspaper.

The Times also reported that several members on the charity’s board of directors were surprised when they discovered that records from roughly 2000-2003 were missing.

According to the newspaper, one of the keys to breaking the case open was a random reference in an Internet chat room about Penn State athletics that said a football coach years earlier “might have seen something ugly, but kept silent.”

Investigators concluded from the reference that the coach was Mike McQueary, who as a graduate student had allegedly witnessed Sandusky sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy in a shower at Penn State in 2002.

McQueary eventually disclosed the information to investigators, giving them the lead they were seeking. He remains a key witness in the case.

On Nov. 8, McQueary wrote in an email to a friend that he’d talked to police about the allegation against Sandusky but didn’t specify which department.

However, both campus and city police denied that claim, saying they never received any report from McQueary surrounding the alleged shower incident.

Sandusky faces 40 counts of sexual abuse, including 21 felony counts, and a maximum sentence of 460 years in jail.

I agree with Jordon. The arrest, in early 2005, of several individuals involved in heroine and cocaine distribution risked exposing the larger organization. The biggest fish police nabbed was 19 year old Taji J. Lee of New Jersey. They were certainly aware of their suppliers and bosses. Centre County Drug Task Force Agent Scott Merrill told District Judge Bradley P. Lunsford, “I believe this is the tip of the iceberg.” Taji was just the regional distributor for central Pennsylvania. Interrogation and further investigation would have certainly revealed players further up the command chain.
