Thanks for doing the protest at Wallmart. I have a few suggestions, and a request.
Change the brand – You are doing a great, patriotic thing here. Wallmart famously started off with a big “Made in USA” approach in the ’90’s, but quickly offshored everything to make even more money. There largest trading partner by far is China, a communist government that represses free speech. We want our country back from those that would sell it off piece by piece. It is not Occupy anything, you are the Minutemen (an women) defending our way off life. Try to think of it that way anyway. That is my suggestion.
The repeat chanting has got to go. That is something too big of a negative. Buy a bullhorn at Radio Shack.
My request, please post on Annarbor.com with a clear, concise message about Wallmart and their greed and lack of American content, then let everybody know so we can recommend it to the top of the article.
I don’t think anyone punched me in the nose, Kate. The Ypsi event went really well. We had about a dozen people. We walked down Cross Street, Michigan Ave, River Street and Hamilton with our signs. We got a lot of positive honks. Then we had a few drinks at the Sidetrack… Maybe someone at A2.com said they wanted to punch me in the nose. Whatever it was, it doesn’t seem to be there now.
And, General Demetrious, I think the human mic thing is for legal reasons. As I understand it, the use of megaphones is prohibited in certain places. So, this method has evolved as a way to work around that. I can see how it might rub some people wrong way. I kind of like it, though, as it forces people to be brief.
The A2.com comments are quite depressing. It’s apparent that it’s a sin to speak ill of Wal-Mart, though I fail to see what there is good to say about them.
They’re just mad because they didn’t get a $2 waffle maker.

Cheer up Peter. Those are most likely fake posts. Walmart is well know for hiring “on-line reputation consultants” to water down posts. That’s why it is important to back up any protests with a concentrated on-line effort afterwards.
Regarding the mic-check, it really has to go. Makes you sound like mindless drones when you certainly are not. If you aren’t willing to risk amplification, read together in unison from a sheet or email on your phone.
As far as I know, there is no protection afforded by doing the repetition thing. If you are in the store, or on the lot, you are on private property.

I haven’t seen a transcript from this event in A2, but I just stumbled across one from an Occupy event at a mall in Lincoln, Nebraska yesterday.
And did anyone else hear that I’d been punched in the nose yesterday? I’m still not sure where that rumor came from.
The nose doesn’t do anything but smell. If someone wants to take you out, they should go for your blogging hand.
