Reflections of Gaddafi’s corpse and Nancy Grace’s nipple

I know that he was a terrible man, and that he likely deserved what happened to him, but I don’t know that I needed to see his execution play out in graphic detail this morning as I sipped my tea and attempted to eat my granola. And I can’t for the life of my understand how it is that we live in a society where one day people are in a tizzy over the fact that they may have seen 30-degrees of Nancy Grace’s areola for a split second, and the next they’re watching video of a man being beaten to death by an angry mob like it’s an episode of Dharma & Greg.

I have a related question. When the Rapture comes tomorrow, and all the good Christians start shooting up into the sky like spawning salmon, will God blur their genitals?

Do you have any idea how many people would turn out in small towns across America to watch people be executed in the olden days? They’d bring picnic lunches. It was entertainment. People love death. It’s in our DNA. Sex is something different, though. That’s dirty. Personally, I’d rather take my kids to watch two people having sex in the town square than to see someone get their head chopped off, but I guess I’m a pervert.

Puritanism, which I’ve heard is the idea that someone, somewhere is having sex and you aren’t and therefore sex is “bad”. (Hi, envy much?!?!)

Nothing makes someone feel better about his lot in life than seeing someone else get killed. Watching other people have sex has the opposite affect.

    It’s all sports.

Check out this headline from the New York Post:

    “Khadafy Killed by Yankee Fan”

I came here searching for images of Gadaffi’s nipples. You can imagine my disappointment.

Let me guess. You also didn’t like people linking to the video of the Chinese toddler being run over yesterday.

    Yeah?

And how do you “know” those things, pray tell?

Clearly, Gaddafi was a complex figure. I personally find the US’s sudden shift of policy toward Gaddafi quite revealing.

The United States has a long history of supporting either despots amenable to US economic interests (think Mobuto of Zaire, or the Shah of Iran, or, as has been the case in the past 20 years, loose, inept, castrated governments that have difficulty in resisting heavy handed US economic policies.

Clearly, the US supported Gaddafi only as long as he remained open to US/European resource extraction, though a loose post Gaddafi government would be far more preferable.

Still, though, I have also never understood why Americans have such a hard time stomaching smiling naked women, or worse yet, smiling naked people having happy sex, but have no qualms about showing beaten and mutilated bodies on national television.

It would be interesting to get Stephen Tonsor’s view on this. Perhaps you could cajole him to comment, Mark?

I liked his views on violence.

What were his views on violence, Peter?

Also, if you haven’t seen it, Jon Stewart had a good segment on the killing of Gaddafi, and why it is that the Republicans seem unwilling to acknowledge Obama’s success.

Am I the only one wishing that this post was about Qadaffi’s nipples and Nancy Grace’s corpse?

    Sorry.

    I couldn’t help myself.

    Barney Frank’s are better, IMHO.

You should line up all three so that we can vote (Janet Jackson, Nancy Grace, Barney Frank).

My God is a nipple-covered Nancy Grace. From head to toe nipples. I pray to her daily. When she lactates, she glows. She has an aura.
