Cornel West: “Escalating Civil Disobedience Is Necessary To Wake The Country Up!”

Speaking of civil disobedience, here’s a quick quote from one of the people leading the occupation of Wall Street which is now in its sixth day:

On September 22nd, 2011, sixteen cities from around the country and the world stood in solidarity with us, protesting the disparity of power and wealth that exists in our society. In Liberty Square, no such disparity exists. Everyone’s needs are taken care for, food, medicine, water. The only need, the only right, that we cannot take care of is shelter, though this is not our choice. Mayor Bloomberg said that he would give us a space to protest but at every moment he attempts to erode us. He uses absurd police tactics – arresting protesters for using chalk on sidewalks, for wearing masks on the back of their heads in violation of a law that is a century and a half old, for… what, exactly? He uses the tactics of media suppression only available to a billionaire with a media empire. It has not worked. It will not work. We are growing. Each day more cities join us. Each day our movement grows. We demand real change. We will see it….

        Midnight, Hasan’s bedroom.

And there’s probably no person in the world that I’d rather get drunk with than Cornel West.

As it hasn’t been mentioned on the site yet, here’s one more reason to take to the streets.

Last night, Troy Davis was executed. Despite the lack of physical evidence, despite the recantations by seven of nine eyewitnesses, and despite a global campaign by more than a million people insisting there was simply too much doubt, Georgia put this man to death.

But in this moment of sadness and anger, it’s up to all of us to make sure that Davis’ struggle does not die with him. That the fight to fix a criminal justice system riven by racial and class disparities, and to stop our country from executing the innocent, is made stronger because of his example.

As Davis wrote in a letter when he was facing execution in 2008:

“… no matter what happens in the days, weeks to come, this Movement to end the death penalty, to seek true justice, to expose a system that fails to protect the innocent must be accelerated. There are so many more Troy Davis’. This fight to end the death penalty is not won or lost through me but through our strength to move forward and save every innocent person in captivity around the globe. We need to dismantle this Unjust system city by city, state by state and country by country.”

So today, I’m signing Amnesty International’s pledge to fight the death penalty and donating to the Innocence Project. If you’re looking for a way to turn your sadness today into action, I hope you’ll join me.

I’m not one to advocate violence, but I think it would be neat to construct a guillotine on Wall Street, just for symbolic affect.

That was even worse than his performance in The Matrix Revolutions.

He really needs to consider some acting lessons.

I think I’ve said it here before, but not a damned thing will change until the first investment banker or lobbyist is pulled screaming from a limo, roasted live over a fire in the middle of middle of a busy American thoroughfare, and then eaten on live television. I think we’re about two months away.

While Cornel West is shagging left field hit baseballs in rightfied we have articles below of your typical Democratic Nat’l. Chair and the type of elected people that liberals support and bow to their alter every night while scratching their asses:

Barack Obama has absolutely NO regard for Latino human life for his support and approval of “Operation Fast & Furious” which provided weapons to the Mexican drug cartels that has killed Mexican citizens, along with American border patrol agents.
