A federal drug bust at Emmet and Hamilton?

The following note was left last night in an open thread by a reader who goes by the name Watching Laughing. I thought that I’d move it up here to the front page in hopes that someone in city government or local law enforcement might comment on the drug bust referenced.

I would like to take a few moments and thank law enforcement in Ypsilanti in the area around Hamilton, Emmet, Washtenaw and Ballard, recently.

I’ve lived on Hamilton for years, backing up to the alley, and the last couple have been really bad in this area. Break ins, strong arm holdups, armed robberies, fights, extremely shady individuals hanging around all day and night, etc, etc. I used feel safe walking to Ferris Market, now Eagles Market at night to get some food or pop. I no longer risked it. It was that bad.

Early last week, 2 unmarked new black Capri Classics pulled up across the alley behind my apt. 2 neatly dressed, I assume Federal Agents got out of each car, with badges hanging around their necks. They approached the individual, who has been dealing drugs for over a year now at this apt, handcuffed him and drove away.

I may be jumping the gun; but since this arrest of, I feel safe to say, a heroin and hard drug distribution operation was shut down in one swoop of an individual. The area is the quietest, I’ve seen it in years. Nobody is wondering around, no shady characters. The place feels safer and it is truly amazing. It’s a completely different area with this one arrest. I commend Law Enforcement for this bust. This was no doubt a Federal operation, from the look of the law enforcement officers. If anybody lives in this area, please post if you have noticed the difference in just one week and the big drug dealer behind bars. It’s truly amazing what spawned in the area for years with one drug dealer. A huge snowball effect. It is now gone. Hopefully the area stays safer, PLEEEAAASSSEE.

Thank you whoever was behind this arrest.

What you may have witnessed is one drug dealer having a rival drug dealer snuffed.

The headline had me a little concerned that the dispensary got hit by the feds.

I live in that area and haven’t noticed anything, though I might be too shady of a character myself to identify it in others.

I have a hard time believing the feds would bother with a street level dealer. Perhaps just some plain clothes police?

One thing that has me scratching my head is the “capri classic”? The googles is failing me.

Actually the bust was on Emmitt around the corner from Hamilton; it backs up to the alley.
I didn’t hear or see anyting in the news, locally as an arrest.
Arrests are posted daily and pop up hourly.
    Just kind of strange.
Could of been plain clothed police officers. I didn’t ask?
I just happened to glance over in that direction at the right time and see it all.
    It was very quick.

This area was hit pretty bad with rental vancancies when Pennensula Place sucked a bunch of renters from over here.
A lot of landlords were stuck with vacant apartments and apparently not to good tenants moved in.
It’s getting a lot better now as more and more students are filling the apartments again and vacancies aren’t anywhere near what they were a couple years ago.
    Just my 2 cents.

There has been ZERO activity at the suspects apt and it’s been nearly 2 weeks.
So, something was up, and stopped.

I used to live on the West Side of Ann Arbor. There was a crack house across the street from my house. It sucked, people would come up to my porch and try to sell me stuff they found out of the trash, you couldn’t really walk around at night, etc.

One day 20 police cars showed up and took them away and everything was chill after that which I was into. Those guys sucked.

After that the landlords and the neighborhood whiteys intimidated the few black people living in the area that were left assuming that the presence of black people meant crime. They all left, and now it’s boring white bread central. I saw this process happen in a matter of months.

This arrest may have been LAWNET?
    Plain clothed Washtenaw County agents?

Anyway, things still really quiet and nice.
    Knock on wood.

The Detroit narcotics team executed a search warrant on Emmet near N. Hamilton. They had assistance from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force. Ypsilanti police were not involved. That’s all I know.

    Mayor P.S.,

Thank you for commenting here. Sincerely. Even when you don’t know anything. ; )

Frankly, I don’t get the vibe that you’re “all about re-election” so I won’t flatter you with the promise of a vote.

I like very much that your comments are candid, clear and without malice. I hope you have energy to serve as long as the voters will have you. I can’t judge on whether your policies are perfect, but you’re the most decent and sincere mayor I’ve ever had.

    Thanks!

“I remember distinctly an image of Mr. Schreiber, we were sitting on his couches, and I was looking at his pant leg and his perfectly creased pant,” Joe Voter says, “and I’m thinking, a) he’s going to be mayor and b) he’ll be a very good mayor.”
“ Schreiber sees himself as a Murdockean,” Joe Voter says. “He sees his view of the world as a view that understands complexity and the organic nature of change.”

    Thank you mayor,
it seemed very on the down low, and yes no local police.
Maybe 5 minutes at the apt, and gone.
No, it wasn’t a Beal Property. I know that 100%.

“I recall a vivid image of placidity, perched on a mount of stool, legs running bare with wires of speckled amethyst and satisfied mole.”

Drag on says, “a) I’m player and b) I’m the very should.”

“I couch my stool,” drag on says, “I couch my stool in the diet of my digestion. A yellow eyed kernel or avoidance. A veil of Puritindigestion.”

“Slap slap.” Gurgle. Stool. Stands the very, bright and berry should.
