Patrick Elkins & the Rainbow Vomit Family Band sing to Ann Arborites about their yoga pants

I never really thought of Patrick Elkins & the Rainbow Vomit Family Band as a kids’ band, but there they were, playing the Ann Arbor Summer Festival today, on the same bill as The Boogers, so I guess it’s official. And I think that’s a good thing. As far as I can tell, there’s a shit load of money to be made in kids’ music, and I don’t think there’s anyone I know who’s more deserving of a big tour bus, and everything that comes along with it, than Patrick Elkins.

Prior to today, if you’d asked me to describe The Rainbow Vomit Family Band, I probably would have told you that it was like the Brian Jonestown Massacre, if Anton Newcombe were a bit more likable, a bit less ambitious, and desirous of forming a B-52s cover band, having only heard one of their songs, from quite a distance, while traveling fast. After today, though, I think I’d describe them as a bigger threat to the American education system than charter schools and spray paint huffing combined. I know that sounds bad, but isn’t it about time that kids had a cult of their own? Anyway, you can judge for yourself. The following videos were shot this evening at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival…

Were you there? I was looking for you and I even tailed a girl I thought was Clementine. We danced for awhile and then made Fern listen to kids music from the beer tent. The people we were meeting saw The Boogers at their hotel, and considered that some sort of star turn.

I’m just glad that Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny aren’t around to see what the Boogers are doing.

I truly can’t understand why anyone would encourage this awfulness. They should be arrested.

this was an amazing show. kids loved it. adults loved it. Pat Elkins is a genius and a true entertainer, as are the rest of the musicians in the group that played. Cheers to the Ann Arbor Summer Festival for letting a bunch of amazing people play and entertain. this is what the Top of the Park is all about – fun, entertainment, NO BAD VIBES!

Don’t get your yoga pants in a bunch, Bob.

In a world where everything tends to sound the same, I think it’s good for people to hear something different.

I am pleased to say that after the show my wife got to have sex with someone in the band.

I think that the taxpayers of Ypsilanti township should give up on installing surveillance cameras to monitor black people and should instead send all of their money to the Rainbow Vomit Band.

My wife and mother-in-law came home early this morning, covered in what looked to be tentacle marks and stinking of Elkins.

I postponed writing this as I was embarrassed, but I soiled my yoga pants while watching Patrick Elkins. My name is Mary and I attend an independent parochial school established in central Harlem in 1938. Among other things, I enjoy pizza and toast.

Hey Mr. X…bite me. How pretentious of you to think you know what they would think. Folks in the Ramones camp (including Monte Melnick) have been nothing but encouraging to us. And to say you’re “glad that their not around?” Wow.

We had a great time at AA, and met a lot of great folks. And we thought Patrick and RFV band were absolutely fantastic.

I rarely leave my home in Annarbour. I’m terrified. First it was the Rainbow Vomit Band, and now there’s a store called Bongs & Thongs coming in downtown. If I’d wanted to live in Ypsilanti, I would have lived in Ypsilanti. There was even a shooting in Annarbour a few days ago. I’m positively beside myself.

The Rainbow Vomit Family Band is going to be playing in the Diag in Ann Arbor at 12:30 pm tomorrow! (it’s part of “college radio day” sponsored by WCBN) this will also be broadcasted live I think, on 88.3 FM or wcbn.org.

It just occurred to me that I’ve never actually touched Patrick Elkins. And now I’m wondering if maybe, like Tupac, he was a hologram all along, just projected on earth to sell yoga pants.
