In searching around online for video of tonight’s Republican debate, I stumbled across this disturbing piece of footage from Fox News.
The guy on the right is Gary Johnson, who, if you can believe it, is probably one of the more legitimate candidates in the Republican field. You won’t see him in tonight’s Republican debate, though, as he’s not polling well enough to cross CNN’s legitimacy threshold. No, that distinction is saved for those who really connect with the Republican base, by railing against auto company bailouts, calling for Muslims to sign loyalty oaths, promising to prosecute doctors found providing abortions for rape survivors, bemoaning the passage of the Civil Rights Act, and receiving communications for the Lord.

Stossel is such a creepy turd. He gets sort of overlooked due to the more outrageous antics of his fellow right wing media types, but he’s been spewing his extreme libertarian horseshit for decades. He manages to get his message across because he has sort of a harmless, Jerry Mathers-like delivery. He was creepy in person when I met him and heard him speak, twenty-five years ago. Great mustache though.
I abhor Stossel and his so-called reporting. The thing that really troubles me about this piece, though, is that some percentage of Fox viewers will think that man on the right really is Obama.
It’s not the whole thing, but CNN has come highlights from tonight’s debate on video.
Short of some miraculous economic turnaround, I think Obama is in trouble. If the GOP unites behind Romney or Pawlenty, they could beat him. I think based on tonight’s debate, they will run together. I’m holding out for a Ross Perot style third party bid, from Paul or Bachmann. I’m not sure they can contain their crazy, and will run as independents or tea party candidates. That might be the presidents only shot at squeaking out a victory in this economy.

people are going to think this scripted shit represents a fair debate between obama and his detractors.
It’s going to be a hell of a fight for Obama. A lot of people who came out for him last time no longer have the energy and enthusiasm. And also I don’t know that they’ll be as willing to dig deep in their pockets for their dollar bills, which are more and more scarce these days. At the same time, the people at the top have more money than they know what to do with, and they’re overwhelmingly Republican. I think, whoever the Republican candidate is, they’re going to outspend Obama by a big margin. I used to think that a second Obama term was a certainty. Now I’m not so sure.
Obama should have cracked down on Wall Street when he had a chance, and fought harder for a single-payer health care system, instead of playing it safe by giving in to the large corporations and the men behind them.

Unfortunately, the opportunity for the President and Democrats in Congress to take dramatic, and therefore meaningful, action to begin to fix the economy and get people back to work is quickly slipping away …
This morning, I heard Obama being interviewed on the Today Show, and host Ann Currie asked him some pretty pointed questions about whether he’s done enough as President to spur job creation, and about whether he was “in touch” with what is going on across the nation regarding unemployment, falling wages, shrinking benefits, plummeting home values, etc.
The President paid lip service to this suffering — then quickly shifted his focus back to repeating Republican talking points about the need to deal with the federal deficit.

Is it too late for a Democratic presidential primary challenge?
The president is far too beholden to Wall Street to have cracked down on them. As smart as he is, and I think the guy is probably brilliant, I think he was a bit naive. He truly thought he could convince some members of the GOP to work with him, and wasted a ton of time and political capitol on the effort. He had a moment after the election when he could have done something radical about the economy. Repeal the Bush tax cut, appropriate a proper amount of money for the stimulus, and create some kind of federal jobs initiative. He blew it on those points. It would have been tough, but I think it could have been done. Unlike the healthcare bill, Republicans would have had a tough time dismantling efforts to create American jobs.

I read that dude’s bio on Wikipedia…his dad was a public school teacher and this runs on a platform of school vouchers?! His dad need to be whuppin’ this guy’s ASS.
Also, I want to know more about his estranged wife’s “sudden” death a few years ago….

I just like to say that I am a Trump fan because he speak the truth about Mexicans they come over here illegally and then they continue to do things illegally, they have babies just so they can be American citizens, what I don’t understand is why come the American government and some of these other countries government can’t go to Mexico and straighten up Mexico that way Their citizens would like to stay in their own country and they can be fruitful and have plenty of jobs there because what they are doing is coming to America and taking the Job from the black people and they don’t want to share with anyone they are not coming to America to share with you they’re coming to America to take it over they don’t believe in sharing with anyone other than themselves
I’d just like to say that …. millions of poor, desperate individuals sneak into the United States illegally each year, often fleeing violence and poverty. Most work very hard struggling to earn enough to build a better life – yet lying about, and demonizing them and their motivations has become a central facet of the early Republican presidential primary process.
Meanwhile, many businesses – including many large, well-known corporations – have come to “depend” on this cheap, exploitable, and often expendable labor source to grow profits and “increase value” for owners and shareholders. In the process, they reduce job opportunities, and drive down wages and working conditions for millions of lower-wage U.S. citizens (white, black, and other). As usual … most people continue to lose out, while the wealthy 1% gains from this scenario.
How is it that so much attention and debate is being given to whether PEOPLE are “illegal” or “undocumented,” or are “stealing” jobs, or having “anchor babies,” (along with outrageous claims that most are “drug dealers” or “rapists” or whatever), yet there is no mention of the millions of BUSINESSES that knowingly (or with a wink and nod), and illegally exploit them (and us) for cheaper prices and/or higher profits?
In short, why aren’t more people angry about ILLEGAL BUSINESSES, instead of always focusing on illegal (or undocumented) PEOPLE?!
Whole sectors of the U.S. economy – for example food service, meat-packing, construction, etc. – are being restructured to take advantage of this cheap and (relatively easily) exploitable labor source (often aided and abetted by corporate-sponsored politicians), yet some major-party front-runners are actually gaining political traction by scapegoating desperate individuals and families, and making grandiose and ridiculous claims about “building a giant wall” and then “making Mexico pay for it?”
If what we’re seeing isn’t actually yet fascism, I think the seeds are definitely being sown …
