Happy Mothers Day

mothersday2011

After all, there’s no reason that victims of rape and incest shouldn’t be able to share this special day with everyone else…

[Tonight’s post is brought to you by the phrase, “rape audit,” which was just introduced into the American lexicon thanks to our our friends in the Republican Party, who are apparently all for small government until cells start multiplying in a woman’s uterus.]

Here’s a clip for those of you who don’t follow the “rape audit” link:

In a 251 to 175 vote this evening, 16 anti-choice Democrats joined every House Republican present in passing H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act. A chief weapon in the House GOP’s “comprehensive assault” on women this bill proposes some of the most radical and draconian restrictions on women’s rights. They include:

    – Redefinition Of Rape: The bill sponsor Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) faced serious backlash after he tried to narrow the definition rape to “forcible rape.” By narrowing the rape and incest exception in the Hyde Amendment, Smith sought to prevent the following situations from consideration: Women who say no but do not physically fight off the perpetrator, women who are drugged or verbally threatened and raped, and minors impregnated by adults.

    – Rape Audits: Because H.R. 3 bans using tax credits or deductions to pay for abortions or insurance, a woman who used such a benefit would have to prove, if audited, that her abortion “fell under the rape/incest/life-of-the-mother exception, or that the health insurance she had purchased did not cover abortions.” Essentially, the bill turns Internal Revenue Service agents into “abortion cops” who would force women to give “contemporaneous written documentation” that it was “incest, or rape, or [her] life was in danger” that compelled an abortion.

I think, back in the bad old days, the definition of rape was like that…you had to physically fight off the attacker. I imagine that would be hard to do when you are given the date rape drug….

If you believe that anyone in Congress, Republican or Democrat, would have their 15 year old daughter give birth to a rapist’s child, you’re absolutely out of your fucking mind. This is for the poor. This has nothing to do with those in power and the women they care about.

A woman becomes a Mother the moment her baby’s cells start multiplying. She can either spend Mother’s Day reflecting on how she nurtured and cared for that life or she can spend it mourning the actions she took to kill her baby. Whatever choice she makes, Mother’s Day will never be the same again.

I hate to tell you this, EOS, but a lot of women are not sorry and Mothers Day is another day to them:

You can’t presume every woman feels a certain way. Just as not every woman loves her kid–ooh I hope that isn’t a gasp from anyone. Trust me…remember where I teach (until July 29)–every woman does not regret her abortion. For the record, I’ve never been pregnant but pre-tubal days, that would have been my choice. Would it have affected me? We’ll never know, but I don’t think so.

To kill your offspring without even a tinge of regret is a characteristic of a sociopath. A significant number of women suffer years of post abortion depression.

This in no way means that I agree with EOS, but I was just reading something about the women in Rawanda who have given birth to and raised the children resulting from rape. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it’s fascinating, sad and sometimes beautiful stuff. Here’s the link.

When I was little we had a pet fetus. My sister found it in a plastic bag hanging over the edge of a dumpster. It was real cute for a couple of days, it would even smile if you tapped on the side of the jar. (we kept in it an old mayonnaise jar). Even though we put grass and a few sticks in the jar it still died. Apparently we needed to poke a few holes in the lid.

If you are conceived in this Country you are an American. I don’t care where or how or by whom but in or out of womb you are ALIVE and the Constitution is designed to protect exactly YOU!

–Were you able to get an IP trace on that post?

Police> Yes we were. I don’t want to frighten you, but the post came from inside the jar.

“If you are conceived in this Country you are an American.”

So if a Mexican makes it across the border, gets knocked by another Mexican, and then gets sent right back to Mexico, where she gives birth, the child, born in Mexico to two Mexican parents, is an American? (And eligible to be president, I assume?)

Just trying to make sure I didn’t misunderstand you.
