Current readers pronounce me second best regional blogger!

damnarborwinsFirst off… and I mean no disrespect to the good folks of Tio’s, when I say this… I don’t know how much stock I put in a reader poll that gives Tio’s the award for Best Mexican Restaurant year after year. With that said, though, I thought that I should at least acknowledge the fact that, according to the readers of the Current, mine is no longer the best blog in Washtenaw County. No, in their estimation, I’m runner up to a site called Damn Arbor. I haven’t gone back too far into the Damn Arbor archives yet, but it looks like, for the most part, the guy behind it posts photos taken around Ann Arbor with one-sentence captions. It’s interesting stuff, but I don’t know that I’d say it’s far superior to what I do here… at least when it comes to word-count. At any rate, I thought that I should mention it here, in case there was anyone out there in the audience who wasn’t aware that there was a better blog that they could frittering away their time on…

In all seriousness, I suspect that not too many people voted in this category. My guess is that I had one vote, and he had two. Still, I think it’s fun to pretend that it’s some kind of referendum on my work here, and its importance to the community. As for Damn Arbor, I visit the site and like it. And, if I’m not mistaken, the guy responsible for it leaves comments here on occasion. (His name is Ben.) So, I don’t want to come across as though I’m saying that his site is shit, or something. With that said, though, I do think it’s about time that I had a credible blogging nemesis to spar with. So, if you’re reading this, Ben Connor Barrie, and you’re up for some mud slinging, let me know, and I’ll make a statement about what I really think of you and your site. (note to self: Find a young person who can show me how to insert a winking emoticon here.)

Oh, one more thing that I like about this Current “Best Of” list… They have AnnArbor.com coming in second in the “Best Website” category to DynamicLawnCareCo.com. At least I didn’t have to suffer that indignity.

I think it was my vote that put you over the top and if Peter Larson and EOS had just voted, you’d have run away with the category :)

It was weird b/c I broke the news to my friend that he won a category…he had no idea either. Then I began to wonder if the Current hadn’t come out yet but somehow I had in my possession the only copy and it told THE FUTURE! Then I began to question whether the Current ever existed or if I existed.

Your picture proves that both the Current and I exist and I am happy. The Damn Arbor blog exists too and is pretty cool :)

His site is better because his pictures are in focus.

I like a picture blog as much as the next gal, but there’s not much content on Damn Arbor. MM.COM also provides a valuable community forum. But whatever, good for them. I think you deserve your own category.

From what I can tell, DynamicLawnCareCo.com has a far superior writing staff to aa.com. Not one item stolen from the YPD crime reports, either.

Damn Arbor posted the Grand Rapids LipDub video on the same day you posted Gill Scott-Heron’s “We almost lost Detroit.”

If I’m not mistaken, Dynamic Lawn Care is the parent company of AnnArbor.com.

(For what it’s worth, I think this is the kind of thing that happens when you lay off a huge number of people. You create a lot of enemies. And unemployed people have a lot of time to do internet polls.)

Ann Arbor is Overrated was also quite popular for a while. Ann Arborites like it when you have “Arbor” in your name.

Tio’s is great if you want Mexican food but hate the added calories that keeping it down provides.

I don’t see how he beats you, but I like his idea of naming the body of water that forms when your basement floods. I’m thinking maybe Lake Mildew for mine…

I think this means you’re not the Tios of blogs.

I would have voted for you but I voted for myself instead.

If you do want to be the Tios of blogs, however, the solution is simple. Move to Ann Arbor.

In most of these polls, the second place finisher is actually the better of the contestants.
And FWIW, the Taco Tour will never include Tio’s amongst its stops. One does actually have to serve Mexican food to be included!

I can’t claim to speak for Mr. Connor Barrie but I promise to defend his honor to the end. I also have a really nasty personality so I look forward to the mud slinging.

Mark, perhaps you can help me with this. When your blog wins the Current’s Local Blog award, do they send you some sort of certificate? If so, where do you hang it? I’m thinking about making it into a really big necklace.

Now that you’re officially in the big leagues, I say it’s time to cash in. Let’s monetize this bitch!
