The Boston Tea Party was in response to corporate oppression, not higher taxes

In a world beset by self-proclaimed historians like Glenn Beck, scribbling nonsense on blackboards, and making wild assertions that aren’t backed up by facts, I found this video, which actually revolves around real, first-hand accounts of the events leading up to the Boston Tea Party, to be extremely refreshing. For those of you who are curious as to what really happened in Boston that evening in 1773, I’d highly recommend it.

Thom Hartmann is one smart dude. Very refreshing to listen to on the radio and on Link or FSTV or whatever channel that is way up there on the Dish Network dial.

Where was Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid for the last 2 years when they, the Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the Presidency and could have had any budget they wanted? The economy during this period of time was begging for a fix and yet they decided to place all their energy into the healthcare un-reform bill that has made matters worse. Now the Democrats want a budget passed while claiming that seniors will be eating dog food and everyone is going to starve if a budget isn’t passed. http://chuckmeisterunleashed.blogspot.com/2011/03/government-shutdown.html

They are a complete joke! Barack Obama and his “Obama Doctrine” seems to be working just fine. http://therealrevo.com/blog/?p=42807

Next on the agenda will be the Democrats blaming the Republicans for the government shut down when they continue with their excessive spending of our grandkids future. The Chinese are laughing at us right about now. http://www.thetrumpet.com/?q=2460.1126.0.0

@Tater… that comment seems a bit random considering the topic of this post :P

I don’t understand why there aren’t more comments here either – this video was fascinating to watch. In all the times this came up in school, all the times the story was framed as brave americans fighting against tax increases from the British – never, not once, was it made clear that we were talking about the largest single tax break for an international corporation at that time in history. Changes the story a bit I would say.

Beck has a better grasp of the facts. The Boston Tea Party was perpetrated by prophetic, crystal ball-gazing, libertarian patriots in response to the threat of Nazi Communism that they saw brewing in a tiny Kenyan manger, 200 years in the future. It couldn’t possibly be more clear.

Thanks so much for this. I’m not familiar with Thom Hartmann but I appreciate greatly someone who goes to such lengths to get real facts and share our collective history with us.

I posted in response to a friends post about the FDA allowing food colorings and additives in food in the US that major companies (Kraft, WalMart, etc) have taken out of food sold in the UK and other countries due to it’s harmful effects on children (little things like increased incidence of leukemia among other effects)…I said I feel like I’m living in “America of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations and the rich people who own them”. I think the American majority (that would be the 95% of us who earn less than whatever it is $250K?) should rise up against what is clearly an assault (one being waged for centuries – as is evidenced by this account) on our way of life.

Thanks for the soap box…stepping down now.

They have a great historian on the other side too. His name is David Barton. Here’s some of what he believes:

…that a radically limited role for the federal government was God’s idea, and that Jesus and the Bible are opposed to progressive taxation, minimum wage laws, collective bargaining, and“socialist union kind of stuff.”

Hello this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have
to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
