I wasn’t planning to go to the Stooges show at the Michigan Theater on April 19, even though they’re probably the band, next to the Ramones, that made the biggest impact in my life. As I’d seen them play before, back when Ron Asheton was still alive, I didn’t see a point in going back for more. I guess you could say, I wanted to preserve the memory of the Stooges as it existed in my mind, like it was trapped in amber, back when Iggy was still a young man in his youthful 50’s. (He’s now 64 years old.) But then I started reading details about the show and I couldn’t help myself. So, when tickets went on sale this morning, I bought a few. I think it’s the first time I’ve purchased tickets to anything though Ticket Master in at least a decade. (The last time I did it, I think I was buying tickets for Dinosaur Jr. in 1992.)
As for the details that changed my mind, I guess the big one was that Iggy and Scott Asheton, the two remaining members from the original line-up, would be playing with James Williamson, who joined the band in 1970 and left shortly after the show immortalized on the infamous bootleg Metallic K.O.. And, then, on top of that, there’s the fact that Iggy will be performing some of the early Stooges stuff accompanied by local teens from the Neutral Zone, which I think has the potential to be really cool. Here’s Iggy with the details…
So, basically, I decided that I couldn’t miss what could be a historic show. If you’d like to join me, there may still be tickets left. If you go to Ticket Master, just plug in “Ronnie” where it asks for the pre-sale code.
Now I just need to figure out a way to approach Iggy about my idea for a statue of him in Ypsi’s Riverside Park… If Detroit can have a RoboCop statue, I figure, why the fuck can’t we have one of Iggy?

Workin’ on it, dude. Workin’ on it.
That’s my friend Dan in Minnesota. He’s trying to figure out a way to get here for the show.
I bet Niagra will be there from Destroy All Monsters, as well as the remaining members of the MC5. Should be quite the party.

God I hope you’re wrong on that one. Awful. Shitty, shitty band. Even Ron couldn’t save that one.
I predict that a lot of elderly rock and roll bad boys are going to be feeling mighty sore the morning of the 20th.
Iggy statue in Riverside makes sense, would be cool. Forgive me for being such a bad movie watcher, but I thought Robocop was shot in Dallas or Houston or something, pretending to be Detroit. (Maybe Detroit and Dallas?) Anyway, yuck. I have bad memories about it even w/o seeing it (too many people who’ve never been to Detroit got a mistaken idea about Detroit–shiny modern buildings–is what I remember).
We saw a pheasant pecking around a yard along Trumbull a couple years ago. Even a pheasant statue would be more appealing and fitting than a Robocop statue to me. Or something to amplify the fist.
I think “Amplify The Fist” will be the title of my next CD.
I wonder if I brought one of these, if Henry would sign it.
