Funny headlines aside, we all know that, in reality, not one goddamned thing will change in the military based on the recall of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. It’s a ridiculous non-story, and I can’t believe the extent to which the whole thing has been in the news. Hopefully, now that it’s done, what’s left of our nation’s journalists can turn their attention to the Wikileaks documents and start reporting on things that matter a hell of a lot more than who our soldiers shower with.
[note: I didn’t mean to suggest that the repeal didn’t matter. It’s a big deal. I just can’t believe the extent to which we as a nation discussed the possible ramifications of allowing gay men do our killing as opposed to straight men.]

Does anyone know gay people who want to fight in Iraq? I’m sure they exist, but, of all the gay people I know, I don’t think there’s one that would want to go into the military.
I felt the same way when gay people weren’t allowed to serve at Cracker Barrel.
The free market should have determined whether gays could servein the military or not. This is a travesty of policy and a slap in the face to American freedom.
It’s like they think recruiting stations are going to be packed with drag queens. It’s bullshit.
Being gay used to mean you didn’t have to serve in the military and you didn’t have to get married. They are taking away all our perks!
I think this decision was all about self-preservation. The straight guys were getting too fat to fight.
Our best killers are repressed gay men. Encouraging them to come out of the closet is only going to diminish their effectiveness.
I don’t know if that’s true of the United States Armed Forces, Robert, but I do think that 911 would not have happened if Mohamed Atta been allowed to open a hair salon and wear a silk blouse.
Atta had a girlfriend, Edward.

I love the idea that Congress could pass a law forcing everyone in the military to be gay. Given how Republicans believe that homosexuality is a choice, maybe it’s not all that outlandish of an idea.
Maybe we could agree to a compromise wherein the entire Army is gay, but just for one day a week… “Gay Thursdays” has a nice ring to it, I think.
Well, it was signed into law a few minutes ago, and already American tanks around the world are spinning in circles as men struggle to get out of their pants and mount one another.
