This just in from Austin

According to a consortium of Libertarian groups on the campus of UT Austin, tonight’s speech by “More Guns, Less Crime” author John Lott, has been cancelled on account of the masked gunman with the AK-47 who closed down the school this morning.

I’m sure that someone will come along and suggest that, if only the students were all armed, this guy wouldn’t have made it three steps out of his car, and the day would have gone on without a hitch.

AK-47’s make killing so much more efficient. Just what you need to fend off a home invader or angry deer.

Not only should students have guns, they should always have them drawn.

As one gun could jam, I’d suggest that everyone carry two drawn weapons at all times. Also, I’d suggest that students use burros to carry their books, and additional ammo.

People aren’t giving this poor kid, Colton Tooley, enough credit for NOT hurting anyone. As messed up as this kid might have felt about something, he still had the humanity in him not to actually shoot anyone. I wish everyone would talk more about that. That last shred of humanity is what we all need these days.

I do believe guns are not allowed on college campuses. So this guy does pretty much prove Lott’s point. Gun control doesn’t work. Well done, Maynard.

But he refute’s Lott’s point. More guns does not mean less crime. There are guns, and the guy still killed himself.

Basically, Lott doesn’t have much of a point. He makes broad ecological assumptions linking guns and crime, but these relationships are almost impossible to determine. I read part of his book and wasn’t impressed.

And before you go batshit, I stand absolutely nowhere on gun control. I still haven’t made up my mind. Neither side has ever presented a compelling and convincing argument of any kind at least to me.

Mind you, I don’t own a gun and really don’t understand why anyone would, outside of hunting. I also don’t watch football. I just don’t get it and I’ve lived in serious crime cities.

If you have a group of armed individuals breaking into your home while you are in it, you have a much better chance of survival if you are armed. Criminals are generally not looking to get into gun battles. They are looking to intimidate and abuse.

Just as I believe most people don’t have the sense to operate a motor vehicle safely, I believe most people don’t have the sense to use a firearm properly.

It must be nice to just say shit, without any proof. It does sound scary though, I suppose that is your point? Of course you have never known and will never know of a single person who has had a group of armed individuals invade their home.

most people don’t have the sense to operate a motor vehicle safely

    There you go again.

Your comment is hilarious considering the source. I don’t know if you have the presence of mind to realize it, but you just say shit without any proof as well. In fact that is all you ever do on this blog. I’d be amazed if you can find one of your own comments here where you actually offered any proof of anything. It would be difficult just to find a comment from you that made any point.

And as a matter of fact I do know people whose homes were invaded by armed men. If you would like to hear about the specifics, I’ll be happy to share them with you in person any time.

…so it is absurd for you to say “It must be nice to just say shit” because you of all people would know how nice it is.

I think the good old government should play a trick on crazy people with guns. They should use that fingerprint thing that Smith & Wesson tried a few years ago where the gun would only fire for the owner of the gun, but the government should reverse the code so that the gun would only fire for anyone other than the owner. They should check everybody who buys a gun for general craziness before they are allowed to buy, and give the really loonie ones this kind of gun so bystanders can take the guns away from the crazies and shoot them with their own gun.
    Wouldn’t that be hilarious?
