I’m killing time, listening to old Howard Stern bits, while elections results are being tabulated.
For those of you who didn’t grow up in the New York area, here’s the context for Cookie Puss, who figures prominently in the above clip.
Update: It looks like Rick Snyder blew away Pete Hoekstra and Mike Cox in the Republican primary for Governor. He’ll likely be facing Democrat Virg Bernero come November.
Update: According to AnnArbor.com, incumbent Ann Arbor Mayor, John Hieftje, is handily beating his Democratic challenger, Pat Lesko. “With 36 of the city’s 47 precincts reporting,” says reporter Ryan Stanton, “Hieftje has tallied 6,293 votes, compared to Lesko’s 1,205 votes.”
Update: It’s still too early to make any kind of declaration, but, according to AnnArbor.com, Ypsilanti’s “Mayor Paul Schreiber has 813 votes compared to challenger Pete Murdock, a City Council member, who has 643 votes.” This was with 8 of 10 precincts have been counted.
Update: According to the official Washtenaw County returns, Rick Snyder, as of right now, looks to have received 49.49% of the local (Washtenaw County) Republican vote. According to the Detroit Free Press, he seems to be pulling about 37% of the Republican vote state-wide.

Do you know where they’re getting their numbers? The official state and Washtenaw County Board of Elections websites are showing very few precincts reporting as of now.

Some numbers may be coming directly from the polling places and gathered directly by the campaigns.
I think the county website is clearly not getting those results.
How about our County Commissioner race. Last time, I believe that Ronnie beat Mark by something like a dozen votes. Did he come any closer this time out? It couldn’t have helped Ronnie that his court case was on the front page of AnnArbor.com today.
Washtenaw County Modem issues are in play on that race. I don’t know for sure but it seemed that Mark Namatevs was not doing was well as last time but there were two significant polls that hadn’t reported yet.
Ypsi looks like this:
Mayor: Schreiber – the last two polls were very much in his favor
W1 Council: Jefferson
W2 Council: Vogt
W3 Council: Robb
Good news on the fake/mistake vote on busing, this time.
Schrieber basically won on the strength of precincts 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3 (Normal Park & College Heights). Those three posted significantly higher turnout than anywhere else — 35%, 29%, and 25% respectively, compared to 10% to 14% in the first ward, 2% and 5% in the two campus precincts, and mid-20%s in the rest of ward 3. Schrieber pulled 66% to 81% of the vote in those three high-turnout precincts, accounting for fully 50% of his vote total.
The west side has spoken.
In Ward 3 (Pete’s home turf), Schreiber prevailed 331 vs 286 for Murdock. (Based on raw numbers from the polls last night.)
Ronnie won.
Mark Namatevs: 964 votes 45%
Ronnie D. Peterson: 1151 votes 54%
How does someone win an election for County Commissioner, when, that very day, there’s a story in the press about being investigated by the US Justice Department in a case involving the sexual harassment of his tenants. I wonder if we’d have seen the same result if we had a real daily newspaper, instead of one that’s only read online.

I saw a Carvel shop somewhere here in Michigan not too long ago. I’ve never seen a commercial here, though.

That’s too bad Mark Namatevs didn’t prevail. I was really hoping he would take that race…
Did Namatevs campaign very hard? And, for that matter, did Ronnie? I didn’t see either of them out and around very much. And I don’t think I saw very many yard signs, if any, for either of them.
Nice job, Democrats. Ronnie Peterson was found guilty of letting his employees sexually harrass some of his female tenants. Can we get a do over?
Mayor Schreiber won the mayoral election handily, even winning all three districts of Ward 3 where Mr. Murdock lives and which he represents on city council. This a mandate of sorts for Mayor Schreiber and I hope folks can get down to business and work together for Ypsilanti’s benefit. After all, in a democracy, once an election is over, all parties and the elected officials in them are supposed to work together not start working on the next election like they do in Washington.
On another topic, I went to the Ypsilanti Roots festival last night (Friday) and was treated to a fantastic musical experience. Not sure who the bands were because I didn’t read the lineup ahead of time, but the groups I heard were world class. Going back tonight!
Mayor Schreiber won on his ability to try to bring all parties together in these screwed up times.
He seems genuine, nice, trustworthy, even minded, and able to try to work with all parties.
Murdoch didn’t portray those attributes in the campaign, to much old baggage, even if he addressed them.
It also didn’t help to have to guy riding around on segway, shooting his mouth off with unfactual points.
