Conviction, shot in Ypsi/Arbor, nears release

The Trailer for the film “Conviction” has been released. Quite a bit of the production, which had previously been referred to as “Betty Anne Waters,” was shot in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. Of particular interest in the trailer, at least for me, are the scenes shot at Ypsi’s legendary Sidetrack Bar and Grill – stills of which, captured by my friend Eric, can be seen below.

Speaking of local films being shot in the area, if any of you have had run-ins, regardless of how fleeting, with celebrities in town to work on them, please consider making a contribution to my Pencil Paparazzi project.

This is cool, but I’d rather that people were murdered in the Sidetrack for Scream 4.

I think they shot the prison scenes in Jackson, and quite a bit of the college stuff at UM.

Hillary Swank is the most attractive unattractive person I have ever seen.

And here I thought that she was the least attractive attractive person on Earth.

As this is a Hollywood themed thread, I thought that I’d mention a little entertainment industry fact that I picked up not too long ago.

Jeff Goldblum gets tons and tons of hot, young tail.

The school stuff was shot at Dexter High School. And I love the Sidetrack but…legendary?

“Conviction”‘s not the worst title, for one of those “dramatic” hard-hitting ka-chunk one-word ones. Since it means two things, at least.

Now I’m wondering how broadly Hillary Swank is thought ugly (for a movie star). But it’s no surprise that how attractive she is or isn’t is thought significant, since she’s the lead in a movie, and a woman, even in a possibly asexual part.

Parts of the film were shot at a home on my street in Ann Arbor. Hillary Swank really knows how to break down and cry.

    Hilary Swank is not attractive.
But she is a good actor.
    Katherine Heigl is beautiful.
But she is a crappy, bitchy little nothing of an actress.
    So there you go.

According to AnnArbor.com the Sidetrack paid $200,000 to the family of a woman who was killed by a man who ran her over after leaving the bar.

Linda French, the owner, had this to say about it.

“The driver involved in the accident was found within the legal limits of intoxication at the scene of the accident. He was also found not guilty of drunk driving by a jury in Washtenaw county. He was served 2 beers in 2 hours at the Sidtrack. The insurance company settled this suit.”

If he wasn’t drunk at the scene, why was he arrested? And why did the Sidetrack’s insurance company pay?
