Cycle Powered Cinema documentation, and the film work of Mike Ambs

It’s not very long, and it’s really dark, but local film maker MIke Ambs just sent me this short video that he shot a week or so ago, during our first real test of the Cycle Powered Cinema concept.

You can’t tell from the video above, because of how dark everything is, but Mike is really incredibly good at what he does. Here’s a video that he and his girlfriend, Erica Hampton, wrote and shot for the Cinemasports competition held during last Saturday’s Shadow Art Fair. Twelve teams competed in the ten-hour film making competition. (The rule was that all entries had to be three-minutes long, and include the following ingredients: a silhouette, instructions, an unresolved mystery, and the making of a pass.) Unfortunately, Mike and Erica missed the 9:00 PM deadline by about half-an-hour, so they were ineligible for the $100 Shadow Art Fair grand prize, but it’s still pretty damned cool… and incredibly well shot.

This is a great post and so true, Mike is brilliant if I do say so myself :) A2 Film Festival had a post about having the winning videos up on You Tube and the on the Cinemasports site here but they haven’t posted them just yet. They did a great job and were fun to watch :)

    Congratulations, ‘Ff”lo.

Next year I will get off my ass and enter.

Good work, Mike. Do me a favor and don’t enter next year.

Thanks for sharing these Mark :) I have to say I was very flattered at the way you reacted to our short film.

@Erica: Psh * You’re slightly biases I think. Now your acting however, was pretty great for not being an actress. I still wish I had a camera on Xander when he watched you and seemed so genuinely impressed, “you’re doing so good, Mom”. That was cute.

@Edward: Ha, that was funny. But you really should try it as soon as you can – it was a great way to spend the day.

Loved it. Fabulous editing. I always like to remember that De Sica used non-actors in The Bicycle Thief and that’s an incredibly moving film. Sorry you didn’t make it in, Mike, but it’s a little gem and I’m glad you made it.

No offense to anyone else, but you would have won hands down, Mike.
