So, what’ll it be?

I wanted to write a review of Ypsi’s newest bar, Smarty Katz, but I lacked the courage necessary to enter… As that’s the case, anything goes tonight. Anything you want to write about it OK by me. I’m going upstairs now, to catch up on the last eight seasons of Survivor.

    What/Where is Smarty Katz?

I just noticed that place this past weekend but I hadn’t realized they opened yet.

Am I the only one who can’t bring myself to buy gas at a BP station?

Don’t only not buy gas from BP, but never forget what Exxon (Condi Rice’s favorite company) did to Alaska. Better yet, don’t buy any gas and Bike Ypsi!

I saw a Smarty Katz job posting on craigslist. They asked for “no resumes”, only a Facebook or MySpace link. They call it a sports bar. In downtown Ypsilanti. I’m curious to see if there’s a market for such a place. I do not plan to go there, I’ve heard too many non-positive things about the owners. But, good luck to them.

Not sure if it was mentioned here already, but there was some good news a week or so ago about Ford doing some electronic vehicle work in Ypsi.

    http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/05/24/ford-investing-in-e-v-development-in-michigan/?src=mv

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ford Motor Company said Monday that it will invest $135 million in two Detroit-area component plants as part of what the carmaker called a “center of excellence” for building electric cars in Michigan.

The investment will result in 220 new jobs by 2012, Ford said, including 130 hourly jobs at a transaxle plant in Sterling Heights, Mich., and 40 hourly jobs at a Ypsilanti plant that will build battery packs. Fifty engineering jobs will be added.

“In the economic environment that we’re in, having these kinds of investments and reinvesting in the community is part of the Ford DNA,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas. “We can bring jobs back to the United States.”

Mr. Fields announced the investment during an event at the Ypsilanti plant, where he was joined by the incoming president of the United Automobile Workers union, Bob King, Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm and other officials.

I stopped in to Smarty Katz on Saturday night to see what it was all about.

I can’t say anything too positive about the place, aside from the fact that I’m glad to see the space is in use.

I suppose the spelling of “Katz” should have tipped me off in the first place.

I mentioned to someone that I was thinking of going, and he said that I should go soon, because it wouldn’t last for long. When asked why, he said, “——-.” I’m not sure what to make of that.

I wish that I could split in half and give myself a high-five. There are lots of times when I do something great, and no one else around me recognizes just how great it is.

    Regarding Smarty Katz,
haven’t been there yet; but it’s nice to see another business opening in downtown. Isn’t that what everybody wants, more business’s downtown?
Good luck to the new business in Downtown Ypsi.

So, we’ll be building phase one of the Water Street Trail on August 14, from Michigan Avenue to the Waterworks Park bridge, using crushed concrete from the demo project. Drop a line to waterstreetparkypsi@gmail.com for more information or to volunteer.

In an effort to reduce my use of plastics, I’ve decided from now on to use only metal picks rather than plastic picks when playing stringed instruments. My strings are recyclable so why should my picks.

My dog, Turner, was attacked by 2 very large dogs at 7pm on Friday 6/4. The attack happened on Forest St. at a yard sale. The woman who was walking the dogs claimed they were not hers and left as fast as she could. When she saw that the police were being called she quickly rattled off a phone number. The phone number was not saved due to all of the commotion. A witness to the attack said the dogs were female pit bull mix and a unneutered Cane Corso Mastiff both a dark color. The woman walking them was 25 to 35 years old with shoulder length brown hair, wear a flowing patterned skirt and a sleeveless blue top. We would really like to find the owner of these dogs. Please contact me with any information you may have that will help us track down the owner amandaruthb@gmail.com.
