Shelter for the Monkey Power

As I think some of you know, I’ve got a band that plays one day a year. We’re called the Monkey Power Trio, and sometimes we sound like this. You may remember us from the radio program of the venerable John Peel, or maybe you were one of the six who heard the 4 hour special on our music produced by KFJC in San Francisco, or perhaps you’ve just read the reviews, like this one, which says our music, “isn’t likely to change anyone’s life.” Or, more likely, you haven’t heard of us at all. At any rate, we’ve been doing what we do for about 16 or 17 years now. Every year we meet somewhere different, and this year our destination is Ypsilanti.

In normal years, the other four lads in the trio would probably stay here with Linette and me, but this summer is going to be a little different than most, in that I’ll be attempting some significant renovations to our 150 year old home, that may make being here unbearable. So, I’m thinking about alternatives. I suppose they could stay relatively inexpensively at the Marriott by the highway, assuming we can get a deal on Priceline. I’d rather have them stay downtown, though, if it’s possible. And that’s why I thought that I’d throw the idea out here to you. I was hoping that perhaps someone would know of a house that could be rented from Wednesday, July 28 to Sunday, August 1. I know that, as not very many people vacation in Ypsilanti, there probably aren’t a lot of furnished places available to rent on a weekly basis, but I still thought that I’d ask, just in case. So, if you know of something, leave a comment or send me an email.

Oh, and we’d be willing to pay for a place, and we can even provide references if you like. (We’ve rented a number of homes over the past dozen years, and we’ve never had an issue keeping things nice… I guess we’re not your typical band in that regard.)

And, if you’ve got a good place in Ann Arbor, or somewhere else in the area, that might work as well. Right now, we’re pretty flexible. And we really are open to non-traditional alternatives. So, if you know of an unlocked dorm at EMU, or a recent vacancy at the Cross Street Village retirement community, let me know.

I just assumed they’d be too expensive, Dan. Maybe I’ll give them a call though. Thanks.

You could all stay (and record) at my house (on Perrin)…I might need more beds though, depending on whether the couch and/or recliner are tolerable for anybody. I also only have one bathroom at the moment. You can come by and scope it out sometime if you want. E-mail me if interested.

You could rent a camper, or maybe there’s room at one of our local tent cities.

RV would be cool. You could drive it around Ypsi and record in different locations. You could park outside a bar, go in for some drinks, pop back out and record, then move on to the next stop.

Where would one park an RV in Ypsi? Can you park them on the street?

I can do the recording if you’re interested. Free. I have pro and semi pro gear. E-mail me if you’re interested in a tour of the studio.

Can the RV park on Water Street? That might be pretty cool. And you could record outside, right in the heart of Ypsi.
