There may be progress in the Jeremy Waggoner murder investigation

As I’ve mentioned here before on a few occasions, someone I know was found murdered in Detroit almost two years ago. His name was Jeremy Waggoner, and his killer, or killers, have yet to be identified. Recently, as the case didn’t seem to be moving forward, his sister, Jennifer, decided to form a non-profit and begin fundraising so that a private detective could be hired to assist with the police investigation. I don’t know how much I believe it, but channel 4 in Detroit has been playing a promo today, for a story about the case which is scheduled to air tonight at 11:00, that gives the impression that there’s a new lead. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, as I know people in the news business tend to exaggerate things for the sake of ratings, but, at the very least, it’s good to know that the case is getting media attention… If you should want to donate money to the Justice for Jeremy fund, you can so do here.

P.S. As I don’t have a TV, I’d appreciate it if someone would leave a comment here, letting me know about this supposed new lead… Thanks.

update: Here’s the video.

    Hi Mark,

The news piece was basically a profile of what happened to Jeremy, his sister, and the Justice for Jeremy organization. It didn’t seem like any new information was presented.

    Hope this helps-

    Mark,

There was no new lead, that was just an angle taken on the part of the news team to try and get people to watch. I was taken aback when I heard the preview earlier in the day. Their preview did make it sound like there was something new. They were referring to DNA evidence that was found 2 years ago, which the police have never reported on the results of. I won’t say what I should be saying here. :) But I’m sure you’re thinking the same thing.

The video is posted on our site:

I think the “new lead” the promo was referring to was the DNA evidence which was recovered from under the victim’s fingernails. If suspects are identified, they can be tested for a match.

I think Chelsea is right though. That evidence is not new actually.

Like you said, Mark, it is good that channel 4 has run the story though. It brings attention to the case and I think that is one of the best ways to potentially get new leads.

I showed up to help wash a few cars two weeks back when the Justice for Jeremy was holding their car wash fundraiser in Ann Arbor. Jeremy’s sister and friends are very nice people and are very dedicated to their cause.

They have many more leads that, for good reason, are not being talked about publically, and with a sufficient amount of investigation they should be able to identify a suspect.

Oh, and here is the clip that channel 4 ran on last night’s 11pm news broadcast:

Hopefully, somewhere in heaven, Jeremy is having a good laugh over the fact that they used that prom photo.

I don’t know about laughing, but definitely smiling. That photo was given to them by Jeremy’s best friend, the girl in the picture. She was one of the ones interviewed on June 3rd.

Robert – The video is on our site at the link above as well.

P.S. We’re now offering a $5000 Reward for info that leads to the conviction of Jeremy’s murderers. Crimestoppers is also offering $2500.

Did this guy ever live in California? I had a best friend with this name & have been trying to find him… :-(

The years go by. Is there any hope of this murder/hate crime being solved? I can’t help but think that if the victim had been a “straight” that the city, county and state would still be working this case.
