Is something up with the water in Ypsi?

dirtywaterThe following note comes from a Chemist here in Ypsi that reads the site. Any advice would be appreciated.

I couldn’t figure out what to do, so I’m sending this to you hoping that your site might be a way to figure out what is going on.

Tonight Jennifer was running a bath for her and Amelie (our baby), and the tub became full of dirty water. It is our COLD water (for now), and based on the fact that our toilets are full of clean water, the fouling occurred sometime between 8 am and this evening. I couldn’t find a YCUA emergency number, and there was no one talking about this on Twitter. I am curious if other mm.com readers have dirty water. The timing makes some sense since they just finished working on the sewer.

Here’s a picture of the water. On the right is a glass of clean water that is filtered.

I had some problems a couple months ago with cloudy water (it lasted about a month). But it has been fine for the past few months. If you filled a glass with cold water, it would typically clear up if you let it sit for 10 minutes….

Water update: this morning the water was clear as ever. So for now, water problem is solved. Mark, your blog has amazing powers.

Which leads me to ask: What other problems can we solve by taking pictures of them and sending them to Mark?

‘Tis the season for flushing out water systems and hydrants. It could be that YCUA was doing that in your neighborhood – it stirs up sediment in the pipes and can make your water cloudy for a short while.
