Hillbilly Hot Tub

I don’t know that it qualifies as performance art, as I’ve tagged it here, but I just happened across this video shot by Metro Times editor Michael Jackman, and felt obligated to share it. The phrase, “hillbilly hot tub,” by the way, before people attack me for being insensitive to the plight of Appalachian Americans – many of whom, as you’ll recall, were brought to Michigan as slaves – is Jackman’s.

The footage, captured yesterday, features a cell of Hamtramck ne’er-do-wells preparing for the Downriver Cruise in Lincoln Park.

Did they make it into the parade, or did they break down before it started? I can’t tell from the video and pictures.

You know what, I have been so stressed lately that I think they look totally freakin relaxed and chill…not a bad way to spend a day. I can just imagine how fun it was planning, implementing and then finally filling it up and testing their idea. I bet some sticky green bud was the catalyst. Party on dudes.

If no one has officially coined the phrase “hipsterbilly” yet, I’d like to.

A hillbilly hot tub would be coal heated, and contain a meth lab.

It’s the best use of a tarpaulin I have ever seen! That’s given me ideas now, you could get your own pool for $10!
