Old man considers seeing bands

I don’t write about music very often, as, for the most part, I’m now too old to enjoy such things, but there are some great shows coming up this summer. I doubt that I’ll actually go and see any of them, as doing so would require me to leave the house, spend money and stand near strangers, but you never know. I might, someday soon, fall into a swimming pool full of space cocoons, or something, and regain my enthusiasm for life… Anyway, here are the three shows that have me most interested at the moment.

English punk rock pioneers, the Buzzcocks, are coming to St. Andrew’s Hall on May 22nd. And, as if that weren’t enough in and of itself, word is that they’ll be playing their first two albums – “Another Music In A Different Kitchen” and “Love Bites” – in their entirety.

Quintron, the New Orleans-based inventor of the Drum Buddy, will be appearing at the Magic Stick on June 20, with the talented Miss Pussycat.

And, it was just announced today that DEVO will be playing Ann Arbor’s Power Center on July 6, as part of the city’s Summer Festival. (Sadly, though, the cheapest tickets appear to be $50, or over three times what it’ll cost to see the Buzzcocks.)

….I wonder if maybe some of them might be persuaded to drive to Ypsi to talk to a puppet.

I like DEVO, and I love their music, but I don’t like the way the Bob Lewis lawsuit went down.

And, like the Buzzcocks, they’ve been playing whole records on their most recent tour. A friend just saw them in Baltimore on two consecutive nights, playing their first two records.

Quintron should definitely do Dreamland Tonight, as should Ms. Pussycat. They’d be perfect for it. And looking at their schedule, they seem to be off the day after they play Detroit.

If the Elbow or Savoy were smart, they’d try to get them.

Here’s a good article on the recently wrapped Quintron/Pussycat show at the New Orleans Museum of Art.

$50 is too much money for DEVO.

Speaking of the Buzzcocks, a friend just send me a short clip from Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

Devo should be willing to come down and get interviewed by your little Booji Boy Puppet. After all, they used your likeness for years without your permission I assume: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yflt70r17w
