For years, I’ve been an aficionado of the “burnt” potato chip. Anyone who loved me in the least would graciously pass me the darkest, full-flavored chips from any bag.

It is with unfettered joy that I announce our regional roaster of locally grown potatoes, Better Maid, has recently released its line of classic, dark roasted Rainbow Chips.

I invite all true starch connoisseurs to join me in stockpiling these precious rarities before banal market demands return us to the bland, tasteless stockpile of tiresome tubers.

Until then, I pledge my eternal gratitude to Better Maid for offering the last century’s best bag of chips!

So we have a pansy thief in town and a red wagon thief–maybe one and the same. Two neighbors had these things taken from their yards, and it’s just wrong! (The pansies were a gorgeous stunning purple, in a pot, on a porch. The wagon belonged to two children.)

Any merit to this legislation being proposed by Colorado Senator Michael Bennet?

With the U.S. Senate paralyzed by partisan gridlock that has all but upended efforts to make real progress for the American people, Michael Bennet today unveiled a sweeping set of legislative reforms that will help fix the worst parts of a broken Washington.

Bennet’s Plan for Washington Reform will limit increases in salaries of Members of Congress; end Federal health insurance benefits for Members of Congress until they have passed health insurance reform; usher in sweeping changes that will limit Members of Congress and their staffs from becoming lobbyists; institute reform that will provide more transparency and accountability in the earmarking process; reform the filibuster rule in a responsible and practical way; and implement new rules for campaign finance.

“Before going to the Senate just a year ago, I’d spent my life in the real world — the world of business, of local government, of public schools, and most important, family,” said Bennet. “But since going to Washington I’ve discovered that career politicians learn to live in an entirely different world, an echo chamber shut off from the reality of life in America that defies common sense at every turn, and uses the Senate’s rules to defy the rule of reason.”

Bennet continued, “The United States Senate needs a big dose of Colorado common sense. But Washington can’t get out of its own way, much less our way. That is why I’m introducing a bill that will end lobbyist abuses, reform the ways of the Senate, stop the influence of special interests, and put Washington to work for the American people.”

And it doesn’t bother me if Arizona goes back to the stone age. The middle of the desert is no place for civilization anyway.

I mean, I know that civilization began in the middle of the desert and all that, but they moved it as soon as they discovered trees.

Here is a question for the young ladies.
When you wear those sweatpants that say PINK across the ass cheeks, do you really think you are fooling anybody? We know the pink part is in the front.
The ass cheeks should say BROWN.

  22. Posted May 14, 2010 at 9:28 am | Permalink

I think that those girls aren’t pink at all, but more like purple-ish. Kind of like roast beef, all stringy and hanging. I hate those pants. They make me say “Ugg”. If they wanted to advertise something a little closer to the truth, they should say “Hep-C”, or “Little Miss Nasty Pants”, but for sure not pink, or princess, or anything like that. Not cute girls, just gross…like skinny leg jeans on dudes, or skinny leg jeans on anyone. You can tell that none of the people that wear those jeans lived in the 80’s, because if they did, they would know that they were left there for a reason.

GIRL, 7, KILLED AS DETROIT COP’S WEAPON DISCHARGES
Officers were executing search warrant for homicide suspect

    Free Press Web Editor

A 7-year-old Detroit girl was shot and killed this morning after a Detroit Police officer’s weapon discharged while executing a search warrant for a homicide suspect on the city’s east side, Detroit Police said this morning.

Officers from the police department’s Special Response Team were looking for a suspect from a Friday homicide at about 12:45 a.m. today, Detroit Police Spokesman John Roach said this morning.

“It appears the officer had an encounter with one of the occupants of the house as he was making entry, and the officer’s weapon discharged,” Roach said.

The bullet struck and killed Aiyanna Jones at the home on Lillibridge.

The details of the situation as officers entered the home were not immediately clear this morning, Roach said.

The homicide suspect was also in the home and was taken into custody.

A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. for more on the shooting.

  30. kjc
    Posted May 20, 2010 at 9:53 am | Permalink

i was being facetious. yes, he thinks segregation is a right of private ownership and should not be illegal. this is just one of those unfortunate accommodations we have to make for freedom (according to him) and won’t you feel more free when some of those restaurants/skating rinks/pools/bowling alleys go back to exercising their prerogative to exclude? Don’t you miss a “whites only” sign? You should actually savor the abhorrence of a sign like that; it means you’re free.

I’m glad RP so fully claims to represent the Tea Party. I learned a lot about how they’d govern. Not a world I want to live in.

My point, kjc, is that demonizing your opposition by calling them racists/sexists/homophobes has reached the point of backfiring. Thanks to reality falling down around us all, nobody cares what you think. Demonization used to intimidate commonsensical people, but now it just makes you look bad. It makes the general American populace side more with the tea-partiers than with you, and without the general populace on your side, you lose.

And where else would you turn? The Democratic Party? You finally got your progressive messiah elected, and he’s — like I said before — Bush on steroids, if you ignore his rhetoric and judge him by his fruits.

Where’s the end to the Iraq War? Where’s the repeal of the Patriot Act? Where’s the restoration of civil liberties? Where are your big government programs going to get funded when governments local-, state-, nation-, and worldwide are bankrupt, and the economy can’t support the necessary taxation to save them? You have nowhere to turn.

Your best bet is to side with the tea-partiers who are genuinely pro-liberty and against tyranny, but you can’t do it. You’ve been trained to respond to small government philosophy with untrue accusations of racism and sexism and homophobia and whatnot. You can’t help it. Now, even though demonizing the general populace is to your detriment, you can’t stop doing it. The seeds of progressivism’s self-destruction are sprouting and growing like weeds, and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it without abandoning your philosophy. It’s a philosophy, when boiled down, that’s based on demonizing people who don’t deserve it.

So demonize away, progressives — it’s only going to hurt you from here on out. Glory be.

BA, I don’t know who the “you” you’re talking to is, but it’s not me. I can’t even respond to all this projecting about who I am based on your caricatures of progressives. I didn’t demonize anybody. I haven’t kept up with Rand Paul at all. I never even watch Maddow cuz her style bugs me (bet that shocks you right? she should be my lesbian messiah). I just channel flipped, saw he was on there, decided to see what he was about. Now today the DNC and others may be jumping on this political opportunity—who cares, i hate the DNC. i’m also hugely disappointed in Obama, but not reall, cuz I knew what kind of pragmatist crap he’d pull. I never saw him as a messiah, you fucking asshole bullshitter. Talk straight to your straw man. Or stfu.
