Dreamland Tonight recap

Last night’s Dreamland Tonight taping went pretty well. Annie Palmer was a great musical guest, local real estate developer Stewart Beal brought us up to speed on the Thompson Block, and historian James Mann shared a few ghost stories. It was a little sloppy, as we were still kind of writing as we went along, but it was fun. And I think that’s all that really matters in the end. There were some good laughs, and I think folks might have even learned a thing or two about our City too, which is good.

As always, the hard part is finding the balance between entertaining and informing. But, I think we’re getting close. Last night, in addition to the three interviews, we also had a last-minute competitive earwax candling, a visit from the Easter Bunny, and an imaginary fire that required all of the kids in the audience to unload with squirt guns… Anyway, it’ll probably be a little while before we get this episode up online, so here’s a little something for now. This video, which was shot right after the first episode, was what we started last night’s show with.

[Special thanks to everyone who came out last night, all of our guests, and, of course, the folks behind the stage who brought the whole thing to life. They’re an incredibly innovative bunch, and they make being a part of this a real pleasure… Oh, and thanks again to Keelan for being a good sport and getting the tattoo.]

Oh dammit, Mark! I completely forgot. I am so sorry…I even had it written in my calendar. My bad, as the kids say…will make it next time :)

There were some great moments for sure and I say wonderful job to all involved! I know how much work it takes to make a production look seamless. Though I gotta say the interview with Beal got really insufferable. It went on far too long…the audience seemed very restless and the guy came off exactly like the humorless megalomaniac I always guessed he would be.

First, thank you for the positive review. I’m glad you enjoyed the show. And I’m sorry that the Beal interview went on too long for your liking. Like I said, it’s difficult to judge how far to go with those things. I want to get into some meaningful areas of discussion, but, at the same time, I want to keep things moving along. I’m aware that people – especially the kids in the audience – have a relatively short attention spans. Anyway, I’m sorry. I will try to do better in the future… And, for what it’s worth, I was pleasantly surprised by Beal. I really didn’t think he’d accept the offer to be on the show. And, I think he had a pretty good sense of humor about it. Maybe I’ll feel differently one I see the tape, though.

And, yes, Super Gay, we tattoo our audience members.

Actually, we should do a gay themed show sometime. And, if we do, I’d love to have you on as a guest. Do you have a gay superhero outfit of some kind?

I missed the Beal interview, but I really liked the remainder of the show. Annie Palmer was great and I got a kick out of seeing the kids with the water guns :)
