Tonight, in the Conspiracy Corner: David Kelly

In July 2003, the body of former United Nations weapons inspector Dr. David Kelly was found in the woods, near his home in Oxfordshire, England. Kelly had, shortly before this, been outed as the source of a BBC news report on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction. Kelly, it would seem, disagreed with the government of Tony Blair that Saddam Hussein had ready access to an arsenal of rockets that could be launched “within 45 minutes.” He told this to the press… and a few days later, he was found dead.

Questions were raised immediately, but the official investigation, known as the Hutton Inquiry, declared suicide. Kelly, they surmised, had taken 29 painkillers, and slit his left wrist with a knife which he had had since childhood. Some, however, don’t buy it. They, I guess, find it odd that the knife had no fingerprints on it, or that there didn’t appear to be very much blood at the scene. But, Lord Hutton said it was suicide, and that was that. Oh, and he also, we just learned today, went the further step of sealing the post mortem report for 70 years… Here’s a clip from the Daily Mail:

…In a draconian – and highly unusual – order, Lord Hutton, the peer who chaired the controversial inquiry into the Dr Kelly scandal, has secretly barred the release of all medical records, including the results of the post mortem, and unpublished evidence.

The move, which will stoke fresh speculation about the true circumstances of Dr Kelly’s death, comes just days before Tony Blair appears before the Chilcot Inquiry into the Iraq War.
It is also bound to revive claims of an establishment cover-up and fresh questions about the verdict that Dr Kelly killed himself…

The truly amazing thing to me isn’t that Kelly was killed, if indeed that’s what happened, but that the same fate didn’t befall Joe Wilson, the former U.S. ambassador who first raised the possibility that we were being lied into war on this side of the Atlantic. Who knows… maybe if Kelly’s wife had been a CIA agent, he would have survived as well.

We should ask MM.com’s correspondent in England, Mel Ayton, to look into the matter.

At least they didn’t call it an accidental death.

In unrelated conspiracy news, I give you this from Bangkok:

Adolf Hitler was a psychopath and a monster but rose to power thanks to big business leaders and other supporters who appreciated his vow to destroy communism and control workers, Hollywood filmmaker Oliver Stone said Monday.

Stone, who is working on a 10-part documentary on the 20th century titled “The Secret History of the United States,” said the German dictator was “enabled by Western bankers” and managed to “seduce” Germany’s military industrial complex.

“Hitler is a monster. There is no question. I have no empathy for Hitler at all. He was a crazy psychopath,” Stone told reporters in the Thai capital. “But like Frankenstein was a monster, there was a Dr. Frankenstein. He is product of his era.”

Henry Ford & Charles Lindbergh were both nazi supporters. There were many other American & British, especially of the ruling classes, who were pro-nazi. Stone has a valid point. Read more history and fewer conspiracy histories & perhaps you will learn something.

2 Russian pilots arrested at Berlin airport
Witness tells police that men were planning a hijacking

    By Kirsten Grieshaber

    updated 12:23 p.m. ET, Wed., May 12, 2010

BERLIN – Two Russian men, both pilots, were taken into custody Wednesday at Berlin’s Tegel Airport after a witness told police she suspected they were planning a hijacking, authorities said.

The two men, aged 49 and 26, were booked on an Air Berlin flight to Moscow around midday, federal police spokeswoman Sandra Pfeifer said. Though they were both registered pilots, neither was part of the aircraft’s crew, she said.

They were overheard speaking in Russian by a woman at an Air Berlin counter before they boarded the plane, said Berlin police spokesman Michael Gassen.

“She had the impression that a hijacking of the plane to Moscow was planned,” he said without elaborating.

Pfeifer confirmed that the two men were taken into custody after a conversation was reported, but would also not say specifically what the two men are alleged to have said.

The two were taken into custody by federal police, Pfeifer said. They had gone through security checks already by the time they were apprehended and were not armed, she added.

Both have been turned over to Berlin police for questioning.

The plane was evacuated and its 135 passengers were all questioned. Most were able to take a later flight to Moscow, police said.

Hans-Christoph Noack, a spokesman for Air Berlin confirmed that two men, who were licensed pilots, had been arrested. Noack said Air Berlin was cooperating with authorities investigation.

He was unable to give any further details regarding the witness.

AP writers David Rising and Melissa Eddy contributed to this report.

A little something for the conspiracy corner. I’m not sure what it means, but I’m curious as to why someone like disgraced former Senator Ted “bridge to nowhere” Stevens would be traveling with a defense contractor who used to be high up at NASA.

A plane carrying the former Alaska lawmaker and several other people –- including former NASA administrator Sean O’Keefe — crashed near Dillingham, about 325 miles southwest of Anchorage, according to the Associated Press. The condition of the passengers is unknown, although an Alaska National Guard spokesman said there are possible fatalities.

Robert, here’s a local story for you to look into.

Police drop an Ann Arbor woman off at Ypsi Township motel. She isn’t seen by the clerk who gives them the police the key. The police tell him that she’s drunk. The next morning, a motel employee finds the woman dead.
