Stephen Colbert eviscerates Domino’s Pizza

Domino’s, which is headquartered in Ann Arbor, employes a lot of local folks. As that’s the case, I’m reluctant to share this piece of video, in which Stephen Colbert totally tears apart the company’s core product, its leadership, and their new strategy – which is basically to admit that their product has always been execrable, and ask for a second chance. So, I’m conflicted about sharing this. On one hand, I like the fact that Domino’s employees a lot of local folks. On the other, though, it’s a company started by a religious fanatic, and they really do make the wold’s worst pizza. So, yeah, I guess I’m going to share it….

Is that pizza or did an angel just give birth in my mouth?

The company that I work for is located at domino’s farms. They are not affiliated with dominos in any way – they just rent space there, as a lot of other businesses do. But the bumper stickers on a lot of the cars that pull into the parking lot give me shivers and emphasize the religious right presence in that compound.

I was forced to eat domino’s a week or two ago, and then was surprised how not-terrible it was. Thanks new domino’s recipe!
For the same cheap ass price it really is a huge improvement

Where would the world be without drag queens? I love them and we wouldn’t have so many things without them like the movie “The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.”

Thank goodness he moved that college of his to Florida where it belongs.
Though I have to admit, the Dominoe’s Farms building is almost the perfect place to work. They have everything you need in that one building, hair salons, post office, restaurants, stores, it’s an all in one life experience and a super cool design, too bad about the creator of all that…but I do miss the Christmas light show.

Ah yes, the Tom Monahan Christmas light show. I remember how Ypsi was making a real go of it’s little light show in Riverside Park till dear old Tom decided to start his even bigger show. Our little Ypsi display then didn’t have a chance and shut down. But Tom (who at one time professed he was “cash poor”) then soon grew tired of his display and shut it down too.

But we all know that Tom still “cared” about Ypsi, enough to try and have us get rid of our human rights ordinance. But at least the actual residents of Ypsi had the backbone to tell him to shove it…. twice.

Rumor had it one had to be Catholic in order to work at HQ. Then, after ’98 when Tom M. sold it, I heard that was no longer the case but that doesn’t mean the Catholics aren’t still working there. Anyone know if one must still be Catholic or if that was never true?

You’d think that Catholics would be able to make an edible pizza.

And thanks for that note, Bob. It had never occurred to me that Tom had started the holiday light show as a way to poke his finger in the eye of us gay-loving Ypsiites.

Hi all, Phil from Domino’s Pizza social media here.

Tom did start the company, but sold it more than 11 years ago. He has no control or input on decisions or direction at all. His views are his, not Domino’s Pizza’s.

As for the building, we are simply a tenant of Domino’s Farms, much like the dozens of other businesses that occupy space here.

And on the Catholic thing: No you never had to be Catholic to work here, before or now.

    Have a great day.

    Phil fro Dominos…
All buildings have a foundation that they rest on. Dominos was built on a foundation laid down by Ol’ Tommy Boy. 11 years isn’t long enough to undergo any major changes or work to the foundation. A lot of “like-minded” people, who share Tommy Boy’s vision are still there. I know a few personally. You don’t have to be Catholic to work there or obtain employment…but it sure does help. Not that I care…but don’t try to bullshit the bullshitters.

    Phil,

I’d love to have a list of the non-Catholic executives at Domino’s under the reign of TM. Can you post them here?

    Thank you.

Rather than eat Domino’s product, why not make some spaghetti Roman style — “cacio e pepe”? You just boil spaghetti , and toss it with freshly grated Romano cheese and ground pepper. Add a bit of the cooking water to help melt the cheese. I made it for friends the other night; it’s surprisingly cheap, easy, quick and tasty. It’s probably no more nutritious than Domino’s, but a side order of vegetables will help that. Mangia!

Phil…if you are from Domino’s social media…does that mean you run their facebook page? If you do…will you ask The Noid why he won’t approve my friend request? The Little Ceasar approved me within the hour. I had to block his updates though, because all he ever posts is “pizza-pizza”

I may or may not have delivered pizzas for Papa Johns at one point in time, and may or may not have driven Papa Johns pizzas over to employees at Domino farms. I don’t know if the employees were Catholic or not, but they probably had to hit the confessional after that.

I always thought that the Dominos dough really sucked, but then I realized they were supposed to be communion wafers.

I am surprised that I am the first to bring up the Ave Maria Community in Southern Florida. Did you know that porn is not sold there? Can you imagine a town with out porn? It has been a dream of mine to hold a “gently used” porn drive. All donations would be given to the porn deprived community of Ave Maria. I am concerned about the legalities of sending porn. Can I send a big box of porn to city hall? If only I could be certain this would not show up on my permanent record.

What does it say about our Athletic Director that, right after he left his old job, running Dominos Pizza, they decided to go with a “we know our pizza tastes like shit” campaign?
